AIBU to feel disgusted that a business would use a disability in a marketing campaign this way. It was a subject line on an email sent out to customers.

DS was born with no eyes so no doubt this will bother me more than most. I hope the press pick this up.

Unless you are a wheelchair user, Walk this way..'

I think it's also bothering me that had something similar to this been used then it would have sparked a lot more outrage. It's an appalling way to use disability regardless of the actual disability IYSWIM.

Barely any of my Facebook friends have acknowledged it after I shared it. Even the daily mail haven't yet picked up the Very thing but they would have been all over it had it been some other disabilities.

I'm a bit disappointed that it's going to largely go unnoticed.

To PP, yes getting a lot of support thanks. More than other parts of UK so I'm grateful. DS is only a toddler so early days still.

Sarah Lambert, Head of Social Change at RNIB, said:
“Online retailer Very.co.uk today sent out a marketing email with the subject “Unless you’re legally blind, put your eyes on this”.

“This is offensive to their blind and partially sighted customers and shows how prevalent outdated attitudes towards sight loss are in today’s society. Blind and partially sighted people have told RNIB that the biggest barrier to equal participation in society is negative attitudes and stereotypes. We are therefore working to educate society about the real lived experience of blind and partially sighted people, which is why we will be getting in touch with Very to invite them to meet members of our community to challenge their misconceptions of living with sight loss.”
