What do you call the thing you use to change TV channels?

I've just watched Tenable and the thing I thought it was called didn't make the top ten of names.

I'm honestly, genuinely shocked. I thought it was really common and would be the most obvious answer.

The remote. Am now going to have to ask everyone I know what they call it though! Haven't heard of any of these other names.

The remote, or the Thing. If I'm looking for it and there's nobody else around to ask, I might wander around the living room making vague "button pressing" motions on the palm of my hand, in the hope that this will conjure it up from its hiding place.

I believe that Noel Edmonds used to call it a "hoofer doofer" on Telly Addicts in the late 80s/early 90s and some people might have picked that up from there.

I think it's actual name is remote control. So we call it remote for short.

I've heard people call it "clicker," but never doofer or pinger.
