Are there any decent vegetarian hotdogs out there?

I'm craving one and though I'm not currently vegetarian or vegan, I'm trying to avoid eating meat as much as possible.

I like the Tivall ones

Ikea

Sainsburys shroomdogs were very nice, quite a meat like texture

JustDanceAddict · 17/04/2019 21:39

Tivall

Shroomdogs from Sainsbury's are really good.

Waitrose Taifun hotdogs are one foot long, in fridge packs of four and are vegan.

My other half eats meat and said they were the best hotdogs he'd ever tasted. He doesn't eat actual meat hotdogs due to the meat content bring full of bumholes and lips, but said he'd choose these Waitrose every time as the texture and taste is identical.

They are really good.

Another vote for Tivall. They're often in the frozen kosher section

I like Linda McCartney veg sausages, they are not hotdog size though.

Shroomdogs are nice but not hotdogs. They go well with mash and gravy.
I was going to come on to say Tesco frozen ones but many people beat me to it!

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 18/04/2019 06:06

Farm Foods do a vegan range of "meat" stuff - they include sausages which are actually rather nice. I buy them for DD (along with the mince, "chicken" poppers, and "meatballs") and I was surprised by how nice they are - I was expecting them to be vile and/or weird in texture.
They are 2 packs for £3 mix n match too, so won't break the bank if you don't like them.

aibuto, yes! Those IKEA ones. They are so delicious that it is hard to believe they are veggie, in fact I rather suspect they are not.

Elmo230885 · 18/04/2019 07:14

I'm a veggie and like the tesco frozen ones, find the quorn ones a bit gross to be honest but that's personal preference

monkeysock · 18/04/2019 07:16

Tesco frozen ones are amazing. We aren't even vegetarian, but won't have "normal" ones now, as those are exactly the same if not better!

donajimena · 18/04/2019 07:17

Tivall are bloody lovely. I'm not vegetarian but I don't eat processed meat. These are just like frankfurters imo.

FamilyOfAliens · 18/04/2019 07:19

Waitrose Taifun hotdogs are one foot long, in fridge packs of four and are vegan.

We discovered these 20 years ago when we were living in Germany, where you could also get the mini ones, which were great for lunchboxes.

They also heat really well in the microwave, unlike the Tesco hot dogs, which burst open in the microwave.

Quorn ones from the fridge. Amazing.
