Are there any decent vegetarian hotdogs out there?

I'm craving one and though I'm not currently vegetarian or vegan, I'm trying to avoid eating meat as much as possible.

Sorry. I am an idiot. This was supposed to be in chat.

YANBU to want one.

Tesco meat free, in the frozen section. Fab.

LuluBellaBlue · 17/04/2019 20:54

I was going to suggest looking in the frozen section - I’ve apways bought any brand of frozen veggie hot dogs and they’ve been delish! In fact it’s probably the only veggie thing that tastes better than the real deal

FaFoutis · 17/04/2019 20:55

They almost all have a weird texture or aftertaste. Tivall frankfurters might be the best.

Smile19 · 17/04/2019 20:57

Not dogs are amazing. I'm sad they don't have more restaurants or have a presence at supermarkets.

coveting · 17/04/2019 20:58

Fry's Family do a nice hot dog 🌭

FaFoutis · 17/04/2019 20:58

Where do you get not dogs from?

feliciabirthgiver · 17/04/2019 20:58

Sainsbury's in the frozen veggie section - they really are almost undetectable as being meat free.

coveting · 17/04/2019 20:58

Sorry pressed post too soon - I think you can buy Fry's at Morrison's & Sainsbury's.

BreconBeBuggered · 17/04/2019 21:01

Shroomdogs in Sainsbury's are pretty sausage-y. I couldn't quite handle the texture as I don't do meatalikes, but if you just want a non-meat product to go in a bun they're pretty good.

Squickety · 17/04/2019 21:01

Tescos frozen ones are really really good. They're a bit on the titchy side though so I put 2 in a bun, and you get 9 in a bag which seems like such a weird number!

Georgiemcgeorgeface · 17/04/2019 21:01

I've tried loads and the only ones I like are the Tesco's own frozen ones.

SpriggyTheHedgehog · 17/04/2019 21:03

Thank you all. I'm looking forward to trying them.

I think that my butcher is a Mumsnetter. I just checked my email and there's one advertising their new range of sausages including hot dogs.

Don't get the shroomdogs they taste nothing like a hotdog

Dishwashersaurous · 17/04/2019 21:05

Sainsbury’s frozen

SpriggyTheHedgehog · 17/04/2019 21:06

I've been wanting to try the Shroomdogs anyway, so I won't get them expecting a hotdog substitute but I'll give them a go.

I'm not really a big fan of meat substitutes but I'm really craving hotdogs for some reason. I'm excited to try those mentioned.

Definitely not the quorn hotdogs they have a very odd aftertaste (and I normally like quorn).

tattychicken · 17/04/2019 21:09

Sainsbury’s own brand frozen ones. Delicious

ShimmeringIce · 17/04/2019 21:10

Another vote for Sainsbury's frozen! (Although they also come in a bag of 9 so may be exactly the same as Tesco’s)

PunkRockHippy · 17/04/2019 21:18

Oh I really like the quorn hotdogs

NameChangeSameRage · 17/04/2019 21:21

Quorn frankfurters are actually OK!

CupcakeDrama · 17/04/2019 21:23

My son wont touch the tescos ones, he says they have “green bits” inside.

cookiedoughorbust · 17/04/2019 21:23

Saints/Tesco frozen ones are ok but inferior to tivall frozen ones which are miles better. Usually get them in areas with Jewish shoppers, saw them in Morrisons last, some Tesco’s.

Laura221 · 17/04/2019 21:27

Frye are the best ones x
