  1. Purchase tiramisu ingredients
  2. Remember tiramisu is revolting
  3. Bin ingredients
  4. Make something nice

(Sorry - I don’t have a genuine recipe but I think this is sound advice regardless Grin)

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 17/04/2019 21:05

Nooo! I love its rich creaminess. If made right it’s luscious and not soggy

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 17/04/2019 21:08

What would your something nice be, out if interest? I usually do a baked cheesecake but the oven is buggered

i just dangle savoiaardi biscuits in strong sweet black coffee with lots of brandy and amaretto in

whip cream and mascarpone together with remaining coffee booze, sweeten that mixture with icing sugar if required, probably won't need extra unless you have a very sweet tooth

layer it all up and cover the top with chocolate curls and/or crushed amaretti, leave in fridge over night to set and mingle.

dh's chum likes it so much he growls at people who try to share it.

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 17/04/2019 21:18

I like the Jamie Oliver one. Bit more of a faff as he separates the eggs and whips the whites. I use coffee liquor instead of vin santo though. It's not got double cream in like a lot of them so you can really taste the mascarpone

MustardScreams · 17/04/2019 21:18

I made The Guardian’s perfect tiramisu last week and it was HEAVENLY. I am making it again this weekend.

Masalatea · 17/04/2019 21:21

This is delicious, easy and works every time. (Except that one time when we decided to try if whisky would be nice...)

I'll tell you mine but I may have to kill you Grin.
200g sponge fingers
300ml strong black coffee
8tbsp Tia Maria
400g fresh custard. Tinned acceptable. I've used value.
250g mascarpone
142ml whipping cream lightly whipped
2tbsp cocoa powder
Pour strong black coffee and Tia Maria into a jug and stir.
Arrange half sponge fingers in the bottom of a deep glass dish and pour over half coffee and Tia Maria mixture so the sponge is well soaked. Allow to stand for 10 mins.
In a separate bowl add fresh custard to the mascarpone and beat together until smooth. Spread half over the sponge fingers.
Dip the remaining sponge fingers in the coffee and Tia Maria mixture and layer on top followed by the rest of the mascarpone mixture. Chill 2-3 hours.
Lightly whip cream and spread it over the top.
Dust with cocoa powder.
Chill one hour before serving.

TroysMammy · 17/04/2019 21:43

Mango (tinned ok) thin slices
Black Forest ham torn into bite sized slices

Nigella's Baileys tiramisu is amazing.

PrettyLittleBrownEyedMe · 18/04/2019 00:18

No oven starters =

cooked beetroot quarters simmered a few minutes in redcurrant jelly + balsamic, served with goat's cheese on rocket salad

roasted squash and red onions drizzled with tahini dressing

gently-fried chopped apple with basil and pine nuts rolled in a slice of parma ham

poached flaked smoked haddock heated in double cream and cheddar, in individual pots served with rolled toasted bread slice spread with mustard

thick slice of mozzarella rolled in parma ham and gently fried to heat through and served with chutney and a slice of french bread

wedge of brie breadcrumbed and shallow fried with cranberry sauce and french bread

I love starters!

BiscuitTinClarabel · 18/04/2019 00:21

I was coming on to say Nigella's Baileys tiramisu but see someone has beaten me to it. So yummy it deserves two votes though - nicest thing I've ever made!

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 18/04/2019 17:19

I am now starving. Mmmmm. Lovely ideas thank you!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 18/04/2019 17:24

I've got some Baileys - will have to try Nigella's recipe. I used to make Jamie Oliver's orangey version, from 'Jamie's Italy'.

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 21/04/2019 13:33

Well I made the Baileys one as no tia Maria to be found. It was lovely!

Made tiramisu yesterday for the first time too. Rachel Roddy's recipe from The Guardian which was really easy and delicious

RHTawneyonabus · 21/04/2019 14:06

Mine is a cheat one as very quick but tastes great - ideally make the night before so flavours can develop.

mix 2 tub of mascarpone with about 2/3 of can of condensed milk until you have desired sweetness.

Make strong coffee and add in booze of choice. Soak sponge finger in this mixture briefly and layer them with mascarpone mixture and dust each layer with coco powder.

ohbutyoulovescarves · 21/04/2019 14:07

Ingredients:

Cup of coffee (doesn’t matter if fresh or instant)

Glug of tia maria/amaretto/khalua

500g of mascarpone cheese

4 eggs

1 cup of caster sugar

3 packs of sponge fingers

Cocoa powder or crumbles chocolate like Cadbury’s flakes or Galaxy ripple

  1. Make a cup of coffee and add a splash of whatever liquer you choose and leave on the side
  2. Take the cheese, sugar and 4 egg yolks and mix with a spoon
  3. Whisk the 4 egg whites and fold (not stir) into the cheese mixture
  4. One by one, dip the sponge fingers into the coffee mixture and line the dish with them
  5. Spoons half the cheese, egg and sugar mixture over the sponge fingers and spread evenly with spatula
  6. Cover with cocoa or crumbled chocolate
  7. Repeat steps 4, 5 and 6 with the remaining ingredients
  8. Chill overnight in the fridge

The Delia Italian one is fabulous.

I like ths one, tastes even better next day! Don't let the fingers get too soggy, I made the mistake the first time I made it of leaving them in the liquid and the result was very sloppy, just dip and remove.

SocksInPeril · 21/04/2019 21:47

I second the guardian recipe.

Use a little more alcohol than recommended (Marsala wine and rum 😋😋) if you like it boozy. Use savoiardi biscuits but I find a mix of Amaretti biscuits with the Savoiardi quite nice.
