AIBU not to give my children a double bed each?

I am in the process of decorating new bedrooms for my two young teenagers.

Both are insistent their friends all now have double beds and it isn’t fair I am making them keep their single beds.

Changing their beds isn’t an option we don’t have the budget for it anyway but it got me thinking is it really a rite of passage to have a double bed as a teenager?

Surely you wait until you are an age to share the bed with another. My feeling is the larger the bed the more you get used to spreading out.

I would prefer to keep the single bed with guest bed underneath for sleepovers and enjoy the extra space in their rooms the rest of the time.

We have two spare bedrooms so we don’t need to double up the use of their beds for relatives staying over.

Do yours have a double bed?

I suggested that it might give them ideas.

That's the odd bit. Some of us don't make the connection at all.

Blimey there are some right oddballs around. Why do people have to go weird and creepy. It was just a thread about upsizing a bed for a teenager for gods sake. 🙄🤦‍♀️

EBearhug but Ilizzie makes it quite clear that atheists have no morals and that parents who let their kids have double beds don't set boundaries for their kids and probably don't have any morals either, because a single bed is the single most effective way of preventing teenage pregnancy that there is.

Oh, and giving your child a double bed means you're giving them permission to turn their rooms into pigsties as well. I must be doing this all wrong, given that I have two double-bedded teenagers who have tidy rooms and aren't having sex, because, you know, school.

It's a whole different universe in some people's heads...

Both my children really wanted doubles too, so have both had one from age 8. I've never regretted it and the 9 year old sleeps much better in it. I on the other had, had a single till I left home with no issues.
