To wash everyday?

I currently wash my hair every other day and on the days in between I just have a quick wash in the shower (I’m only in there for about 2 mins). I’m staying with my sister for the week and she says it’s a lot of water to use and that you don’t really need to wash every day- she says that every other day is fine. I just wondered if other people thought that washing everyday is too much? Thanks

I forgot to add that I didn't have a shower until I was nearly 30 so I got into the habit of strip washes .

goodwinter · 16/04/2019 22:42

@goodwinter - the thing is I have bad eczema too, but I find I need a shower every day to try and sooth it.

It's an odd one, isn't it? Most people say their eczema gets better with exposure to sunlight, whereas if I go in the sun I swell and itch. Sorry. a bit OT, but you'll find with eczema that what works for one person makes another worse.

She’s quite judgemental of those who enjoy regular sex though!

Wait now, what’s the thinking here?

Surely if we are shagging we are saving precious fuel by not doing other things. The more we do it, the more resources we conserve HaloHalo

Ontheboardwalk · 16/04/2019 23:04

Surely to strip wash and clean the flannel after washing each bit takes longer than jumping in the shower with a bit of soap??

Do you strip wash your feet? At least in the shower with the plug in you wash your toes and feet.

Arms and pits aren’t enough to wash with a damp flannel when you are mingling with the poor people around you.

I really hope the strip wash people don’t wear shoes without socks

All these 3/4/5 times a days shower-ers, are you constantly washing towels?

I know it's a MN bone of contention fave. But yes you ABSOLUTELY have to wash towels after each use; bacteria breed in wet warm environments (especially thick fabrics like towels - just the same as dishcloths).

And none of this rubbish you "hang it to dry" with the bacteria drying in to the towel and if you're using the same towel you're minging.

A shower a day, fine - 2 if needed. 3-5 as mentioned upthread, you're being ridiculous and I can't imagine how weathered your skin is going to be in later years.

queenscot · 16/04/2019 23:14

Ahh I don't wash my towels after every use but regularly. My mother never seemed to ever wash the towels and they stank. I also remember working in hairdressers and then just hanging up the towels unless they were used for perms/tints then they got washed.

WatershedMoment · 16/04/2019 23:14

Please for the love of god, everyone, please shower everyday, wash hair at least twice a week minimum, wear deoderant, change your top and underwear everyday. It really would stop buses smelling like a teenage boys bedroom and stop me having to smell your odours when im sitting behind you.

standardaccount · 16/04/2019 23:17

I shower every morning and every night unless I am hungover unwell. Although I probably wash my hair every four days Blushit tends to go, wash hair, wear down for 2 days, wear up for 2 days, wash and repeat. Lol. No I think showering once or twice a day is perfectly reasonable.

Surely everyone has a shower every day?

Never been on the tube at rush hour then? Wink

Why would anyone use a towel twice? You might as well rub the grease and grime back in!

Haffiana · 16/04/2019 23:27

Good Lord. You are on the internet and google is at your fingertips even if common sense has been lost. But perhaps you are phobic rather than ignorant?

Oakenbeach · 16/04/2019 23:27

Some people will be saying they don’t wash all their clothes/bed linen daily next Confused

Haffiana · 16/04/2019 23:29

What, rather than wash it off in the shower before using the towel?

WatershedMoment · 16/04/2019 23:30

Do you think that the problem here is the differing senses of smell? I suspect the people who "dont smell" even when they skip the daily shower, actually dont have a strong sense of smell so when they sit next to me on the bus and I can smell that whiffy-only-wash-once-a-week hair, they think they smell fine cos their hairs not greasy, but a lot of people think they smell unpleasant. i.e. the great unwashed think they smell great.

Oakenbeach · 16/04/2019 23:31

Totally... wouldn’t surprise me if some people still have handtowels in their toilets...Angry

Blackboot1 · 16/04/2019 23:32

Why is everyone on mumsnet so obsessed about this topic plus how often they change their sheets and whether they wear shoes indoors? Who cares how often others wash?

WatershedMoment · 16/04/2019 23:38

"Why is everyone on mumsnet so obsessed about this topic plus how often they change their sheets and whether they wear shoes indoors? Who cares how often others wash?"
Couldn't give a stuff about anything that goes on behind closed doors, live and let live, but what gets me angry is taking the time to smell nice but then being squashed next to some smelly git on the bus, making me feel sick. It's anti social.

keepforgettingmyusername · 16/04/2019 23:40

Some people don't need to shower daily. My old housemate always smelt really nice and only showered every 2-3 days. If I shower in the morning I'm greasy and smelly by dinnertime Blush

e1y1 · 16/04/2019 23:46

PLEASE don't say these were then used on other clients (I know you're going to - or else why were they hung and not put for wash) Envy < defo not envy. I'm taking my own towels from now on! Only half joking.

You've not seen the how many times do you use pj's and towels before washing threads? Causes wars on MN.

But perhaps you are phobic rather than ignorant? Maybe phobic - after all the threads (as mentioned) I've tried to use a towel on a second shower and I just can't, it's wrong. It's just that until they've been back through the machine, with detergent and dried, they're NOT clean.

Likethebattle · 16/04/2019 23:50

Shower and hair wash every day. My hair is quite greasy and also picks up a lot of smells so I like it clean.

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 16/04/2019 23:50

It's funny because I used to go to college with a girl who had excessive BO, not because she didn't wash enough or was dirty but she genuinely had something wrong with her. Felt so sorry for the poor girl and often wonder if she ever got to the bottom of the problem.
I also know people who wash less than twice a week and smell great, personally I think smell is little to do with how much you wash but how much sweat and smells your body naturally releases. Hormones play a big part.
@Watershed also washing your hair too often causes your scalp to produce more sebum to replace whats been washed away which in turn makes your hair greasier quicker, washing once a week stabilizes sebum production so hair tends to not over produce oils. Also I've never in my life been sat close enough to someone to know if their hair smells rank..

OooohAhhhhh · 16/04/2019 23:54

These threads baffle me, people talk about BO and sweaty armpits but surely it's your arse and minge that really need a wash every day.

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 16/04/2019 23:56

@Ooooh and half the PPs probably still only use toilet paper to wipe their backsides..

WatershedMoment · 17/04/2019 00:02

"Also I've never in my life been sat close enough to someone to know if their hair smells rank.."
Nearly everyday i have to smell someones dirty hair but i use a lot of public transport where your nostrils are a foot away from the smelly head in front. No matter how stable their sebum is, if youve had the chip pan on your hair needs a wash.
