To wash everyday?

I currently wash my hair every other day and on the days in between I just have a quick wash in the shower (I’m only in there for about 2 mins). I’m staying with my sister for the week and she says it’s a lot of water to use and that you don’t really need to wash every day- she says that every other day is fine. I just wondered if other people thought that washing everyday is too much? Thanks

I save my shower towel for my strip wash the next day then I wash it.

YouBumder · 17/04/2019 00:25

I don’t do my hair often but shower every day. It takes a few minutes and surely is a lot less arsing around than a strip wash at the bloody sink!

queenscot · 17/04/2019 00:31

@e1y1 yes they were used again and again on other clients. I have several hairdressers friends who still practice this habit. The other is not washing brushes rollers in between clients.

e1y1 · 17/04/2019 00:39

@queenscot [vom] can totally believe it though, anything that saves time and money and businesses will do it. Just the thought of being dried off with someone else's head.

Theoldwoman · 17/04/2019 00:40

We all shower or bath twice a day here. We live in a hot sticky climate. The morning is just a quick one, longer, more detailed at night.

If we exercise or mow the lawn during the day, that's another shower.

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 17/04/2019 00:44

@Watershed that sounds so grim. The only thing I can ever smell on public transport is either weed or booze and I'm starting to think I got the better deal Grin

PinguDance · 17/04/2019 00:49

I want a population level venn diagram of 'strip washers' and 'Mumsnet users'. I have never encountered anyone irl to whom it would occur to have a strip wash in their own house at any point in the last 20 years.

For what it's worth I don't shower every day AND I GENUINELY DON'T SMELL! I'm miraculous, like a saint who only ever smells of flowers. People have a hard time believing this but I have had this conversation with enough friends/colleagues to know that I am in fact #blessed to be able to get through life showering every other day. Ah ha! We the unwashed walk amongst you!

Twillow · 17/04/2019 01:15

@PinguDance I quite often strip wash in my own house, was brought up to wash that way. I also quite often have a quick shower instead. What I never do is go out UNwashed, or even if not going out unless too sick to get dressed. Ew!

Ihatehashtags · 17/04/2019 01:26

Eew not washing daily is disgusting. I also have to wash my hair everyday. It is very fine and would be like an oil slick if I didn’t wash it daily.

April241 · 17/04/2019 01:29

When I'm working - shower beforehand whether that's half 5 in the morning for dayshift or 5pm for nightshift

Days off and I'm at home or just out with the kids at a park or do - quick wash at the sink

Days out/nights out - shower

I need to wash my hair daily but if I'm not showering it's dry shampoo and stick it in clips or a hat!

April241 · 17/04/2019 01:31

Also re the strip wash, I've only been on Mumsnet for 3 years but have always had sink washes on days when not showering, definitely not a MN only thing.

pineapplebryanbrown · 17/04/2019 01:37

What's wrong with toilet roll now?

Twillow · 17/04/2019 01:49

@thighofrelief101 wet wipe manufacturers unfortunately doing a great job of persuading people their bums aren't squeaky clean enough to eat off: meanwhile the sea is clogged with the stuff. WET WIPES ARE NOT FLUSHABLE NO MATTER WHAT IT SAYS ON THE PACKET.

managedmis · 17/04/2019 02:07

Doesn't the wet flannel just spread the sweat/dirt/dead skin cells around rather than cleaning your skin?

^^

Basically, yes.

Easier to... Guess what? Jump in the shower Grin

managedmis · 17/04/2019 02:10

I dunno... Strip washing.. It's just such a faff

Running the sink of soapy water, soaking the flannel (HATE the word flannel, shudder) standing there shivering, scrub your Fanjo etc.

Nah thanks

AlexaAmbidextra · 17/04/2019 02:26

Why is everyone ‘jumping’ in the shower? Does nobody just step in?

I’m a firm believer in live and let live but those of you showering four or five times a day, unless you work in a steel works or down a mine, you are obsessional.

cherryblossomgin · 17/04/2019 03:47

My problem with jumping in the shower is creating noise for my neighbours. I don't want to wake them up at 5.30 so I shower at night and have a quick freshen up in the morning.

DappledThings · 17/04/2019 07:08

@e1y1 If you are staying at someone's house do you expect them to give you a clean towel daily? I've never had a guest ask for that and I'm trying to imagine my face if they did

I had a strip wash this morning. It took me 48 seconds. No way that isn't quicker than a shower.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 17/04/2019 07:16

I've never understood how a strip wash works, apart from the armpits. How do you wash your feet or bits in the sink?

SerenDippitty · 17/04/2019 07:19

Maybe phobic - after all the threads (as mentioned) I've tried to use a towel on a second shower and I just can't, it's wrong. It's just that until they've been back through the machine, with detergent and dried, they're NOT clean.

But it’s only been used to dry your CLEAN fresh from the shower body? How can it be dirty after one use?

Mummadeeze · 17/04/2019 07:23

I can not start the day without washing my hair. It is a ritual I can’t go without. You are not being unreasonable

SerenDippitty · 17/04/2019 07:27

I wash my feet by putting them in the sink. Not both at once obviously. Then I put one foot on the side of the bath, lather up and rinse my fanny and bum. I do actually shower most days I just don’t get the screaming meemies at the thought of a strip wash.

Rosesaredead · 17/04/2019 07:27

Ohhh yuck. I'd feel grim if I didn't have a wash each morning.

SerenDippitty · 17/04/2019 07:29

I’m another once a week hair washer. My hair is very thick and slightly dry. If I washed it every day it would be REALLY dry.

Japonicaflower2 · 17/04/2019 07:30

Apart from having a bath or shower every day, I think how often you change your clothes also also has a huge impact on whether you smell or not. It's no good having a daily shower/bath if you wear the same clothes for days on end.
The stench from unwashed clothes is utterly revolting.
