AIBU to think Brexit has shone light on a really unpleasant racist underbelly allowing it to flourish?

I know, I know not all Leavers are racist, really, I do know that. But the (lovely, non racist) Leavers must be able to see this, they really cant be blind to the unsavoury characters and groups promoting Brexit for all their worth. I don't know what can be done about this, if there's any way to put these groups back in the box?

Just looked at the stats for the 2017 General Election - UKIP only achieved 1.8% of the vote.

I might well vote for The Brexit Party in the EU Elections though - I want parliament to respect the result of the referendum - but if they don't and we end up staying in the EU - I want a representative who is against a Federal Europe.

My local (Conservative) MP voted to Leave the EU in 2016 - he will get my vote in a general election.

Anti immigrant white supremacy
Look to Brussels for white supremacy;

All 28 European commissioners are white and only three of the 751 MEPs are black.

Scroll down to the Human Rights poster at the bottom - all the arms are white;

I didn't think I was racist (I have many European and Asian friends) - however, I am very worried about EU enlargement;

Dec 2018 Romania Pledges To Support Serbian Bid During Upcoming EU Presidency

"Romania is supporting the European pathway for Serbia," Dancila said."We all have to involve ourselves in supporting Serbia."

She added that EU enlargement was "a general priority" for Romania.

The reason I am worried is because Remain voters are not racists - they have no problem with Serbia and Montenegro joining in 5 to 7 years time - and even Albania joining if/when they meet the criteria.

I am worried because our Remain Parliament will never use the veto to stop another country joining (if that country meets the criteria) - if we use our veto (to prevent the free movement of people from Serbia, Montenegro and Albania etc.) - that would be considered racist wouldn't it? And Remain voters are not racists.

My bread doesn't look especially buttered here @Fjfs . Maybe ask them in Liverpool too.
If you think it's a money and class thing, you haven't paid much attention.
For me? Protect GFA - that was my first reason.

rosie39forever · 15/04/2019 16:57

Hithere12. You do realise that immigration from the EU is just going to be replaced with immigration from other countries, so you voted to leave because the government weren't acting responsibly not because you necessarily disagree with the concept of the EU. We will need to to do trade deals with other countries to survive and do you know what they will want in return for our goods and services? Visas. So the problems with the nhs and housing will be the same but with different people.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/04/2019 16:57

Oh they didn't? Care to read back through the thread?

I have read the thread

Ive obviously missed the bit where someone said that 'all leave voters are racist'

Fjfs · 15/04/2019 16:57

@BoneyBackJefferson

I'm not sure that you understand what the word indigenous means.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/04/2019 16:58

Sorry....should have said can you point me to which post it was

Please and thank you

scaryteacher · 15/04/2019 16:58

DeeCee I do think all Brexiters are racist. They saw leaving EU as a chance to hit back and keep the foreigners out. Even though, thats not how it will be. Yet some Leaver voters like me, live abroad for work amongst 'foreigners', so how does that make us racist? Many voted Leave because they can see what the EU is morphing into, and they don't want to live in a EU superstate. I fail to see why we need a supranational layer of government (for which we pay), on top of what we have already. Fine, let's trade, but please don't tell me that those in NAFTA for example, would accept the ECJ or the supremacy of another law over theirs.

Oooh ive seen where scary mentioned the relevant post

Thanks scary

Fjfs · 15/04/2019 17:02

Bit racist that .

scaryteacher · 15/04/2019 17:03

Clav Until Serbia ceases to be a centre for sex trafficking, organised crime, gun running etc, I am worried about it acceding as well. They manage now without FOM, just imagine what the consequences would be if they did have it.

Montenegro...bit different. It became a full NATO member not so long back, which is usually a precursor to acceding to the EU.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/04/2019 17:04

Oh thats fine, it was after my post

The relief!

Hithere12 · 15/04/2019 17:05

You do realise that immigration from the EU is just going to be replaced with immigration from other countries, so you voted to leave because the government weren't acting responsibly not because you necessarily disagree with the concept of the EU

Yes obviously but there will be controls on numbers when there were absolutely none before. So it’s not the same thing. I’m so over remainers patronising leave voters.

scaryteacher · 15/04/2019 17:05

No problems Rufus

bellinisurge · 15/04/2019 17:05

Thank god we have no gun running, sex trafficking or organised crime in this country, eh? Hmm

DeeCeeCherry · 15/04/2019 17:05

I dont like racism. I dont like racists. My lived experiences are mine.

There are non blacks living and working in black countries who want and have nothing to do with black people.

Thats all.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/04/2019 17:07

fjfs

Still can't see the post that you suggested i (re)read the thread for, do you remember where it was?

Windowsareforcheaters · 15/04/2019 17:08

This is how the Financial Times described UKIP:

Deprived of a purpose after the 2016 vote for Brexit, Ukip has morphed fully into a far-right force under its latest leader, Gerard Batten. His “fixation” with Islam, as Mr Farage puts it, is a shift from its past strategy of appealing to Eurosceptics in England’s Home Counties. The final straw was Mr Batten’s decision to appoint Stephen Yaxley-Lennon aka Tommy Robinson as an adviser. His arrival is the moment Ukip ceased pretending to be a mainstream party

Not The Guardian, not the Mirror but the Financial Times. The staid conservative Financial Times.

UKIP is an extreme right wing party. We are seeing the rise of the alt right and populism in the UK.

The people warning us about UKIP are Nigel Farage, Michael Heseltine and the Financial Times.

This isn't an underbelly this is out in the open, you are either with them or basing them there is no middle ground with facists.

Indiginous - native to, anyone born in the country would be native to.

So I am not sure what your issue is.

Laiste · 15/04/2019 17:10

''DeeCeeCherry Mon 15-Apr-19 16:51:13 I do think all Brexiters are racist. They saw leaving EU as a chance to hit back and keep the foreigners out. Even though, thats not how it will be. Ive never heard a Brexiter admit the increase in racism nor denounce it so, theyre all racists to me.''

rosie39forever · 15/04/2019 17:11

Fjfs not racist at all its fact past trade deals we have done with Asian countries have always included allocation of visas in return for goods and services and I have no problem at all with that I was stating that pressure on services that a previous poster stated was down to EU immigration would be replaced by immigration from other countries, as our economy need immigration to prosper.

Laiste · 15/04/2019 17:12

My post was quoting Dee for Rufus.

Windowsareforcheaters · 15/04/2019 17:12

@Clavinova

That's right and because people are not racist they make the decision based on other factors.

I have no problems with any country joining provided they meet the standards required. Those standards are not based on race nor should they be.

BlackPrism · 15/04/2019 17:13

'A plain ordinary voter who believes a change will be better'.

Ah yes, that vague notion of 'a change'. If you hate your life change your job/marriage/town - don't take everyone else's opportunity
