I think I was a bit of a strange child although maybe I’m not the only one.

One of my favourite things to do aged about 5/6 was to steal a bar of soap and some scissors, find a corner to hide in and shave wafer thin slices of soap off until there was nothing but a big pile of soap flakes. I got into trouble every time but it didn’t stop me.

Our family car had two rear facing seats at the back and if I was sitting there I used sit dead still and make blank-faced unblinking eye contact with the people behind for as long as possible. I think I managed it for about an hour once.

Once aged about 10 I set out to drink as much water as possible just to see how much I could drink. I managed a few litres (I’m aware now that I could have killed myself)

I brought a large dehydrated dead fish I’d found on the beach to show and tell at school when I was 7. Unfortunately it was the last day before the summer holidays and I accidentally left it behind. I think they had to get someone to come in in the end to deal with the terrible smell.

When I was 12 I coloured my entire face in with bright pink lipstick. It took about two days to get rid of completely.

Was anyone else a little weirdo? I think I’m pretty normal now btw!

Grin at the tights hair in a scrunchie!

I decided to cut my own hair into a bob the day before starting secondary school, did one side, panicked, then wore my hair in a half ponytail for a year...

MrsXx4 · 14/04/2019 22:39

Some of these are hilarious and have reminded me of some strange things I used to do as a kid! I really laughed at the ‘juicy glumpshires’!!! I love that!

I also used to pick sand out of my hair!

My best friend had me totally convinced that she had a ghost boyfriend called Rip. I was only about 8! I was seriously spooked when she showed me the grave and it said RIP on it! Then I knew she wasn’t lying!!

When those big flies would come in the house me and my sister would drop what we were doing to shout ‘Bugger’ and chase it about! We did it once at my grandparents and got a right telling off for yelling bugger over and over! We had no idea we weren’t supposed to say that word!

I did lots of other very strange things, thinking about it!

TroysMammy · 14/04/2019 22:40

siobhan0710 me and my sister would put our DM's American Tan tights over our heads and faces then pull them upwards making us have squashed piggy faces and laughing until we nearly wet ourselves. I'm giggling whilst thinking about introducing my niece to our weirdness.

WholeLottaLottie · 14/04/2019 22:42

Mums replied.....christ I was really fucking weird.

When I was 4 I got a cut on my hand unsure how, and probably irrelevant because...... i demanded a plaster and woolly glove I wore the glove for three days and wouldnt let anyone see my hand.. mum had to take it off while I was sleeping and wash my hand and the glove ..... it was summer.🤢

I used to put plastic bags on my feet and skate around the living room.

Collected snails in winter and Caterpillars in summer in the blue walls ice cream tubs and spend hours talking to them and playing with them..

I'd steal the soap from the bathroom and draw faces on them and play with them like they were dolls.......I had dolls so fuck knows why I did this...

I would refuse to eat my meal.... any meal as a toddler..... unless I had cabbage with it....but not cut up the full leaves.

I had to count my vegetables I had to have exactly 10 carrots 20 peas 2 potatoes 4 florets of broccoli and 4 of cauliflower with my roast dinner

If I was having beans they had to be in a separate dish and couldn't touch my other food items, like sausage. ..but I would dip the food off my plate into them ...... what's that about

I would sit deadly still in the window and stare at the neighbours wondering if they thought i was me or a life size doll of me

Poppy43 · 14/04/2019 22:43

Another one for walking around with a mirror pointing at the ceiling, so much fun going up the stairs Grin. I used to like digging my nails in a particular type of rubber in school. I used to dip every finger in melted wax or paint my hands with pva glue so I could sit and pick.
I used to like winding string up my arm or leg, I liked the feel of it. I used to mentally race cars or busses to the next lamppost or 3 lamppost ahead etc. I couldn't walk past a hedge without taking a leaf off, then meticulously take it apart or fold it over to dig my nails in.

haverhill · 14/04/2019 22:43

I put Tippex on my record player and hair mousse on the radiator, I think to see what happened when it got hot. I used to throw my toast crusts behind the boiler; there was a huge mouldy pile of them before anyone knew.

Roussette · 14/04/2019 22:44

Aww that's lovely that your Mum came up with that lot Whole!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 14/04/2019 22:44

I used to stitch my fingertips with needles as well. Probably the most stupid thing I ever did was to climb Thorncombe Beacon from Seatown beach. If I hadn't been a five stone wispy creature I'd be dead. Two weeks later someone did die on it. It's basically mud with gravel bands.

fizzwhirl · 14/04/2019 22:44

Used to squish bread together into a compressed cube (about 1cm per side), and then eat it. Fantasized that this 'new type of sweet' would take off, and everyone would praise me as the inventor.

Used to hide special bits of coloured glass in gaps in stone walls (hiding places).

OK - worst one - My friend had an upstairs toilet, and we only had one downstairs. One day we decided to make a toilet in my bedroom from a cardboard box and newspaper. We used it a few times before my mum smelt it...

Onlygirlinmyhouse1 · 14/04/2019 22:47

Water & talcum powder mixed together pasted over toilet paper when it dried was almost like a plaster cast, broken bones was something I always wanted!

Eating toilet roll soaked with water and dollop of toothpaste in it too 🤔 don’t know where that one came from.

I had an imaginary friend called Fred who lived in the bathroom and it was him that used all the toilet roll.

I used to turn photos upside down on the wall, my dad thought it was his dead mother sending him a message but enjoyed it too much so kept it going.

Drogosnextwife · 14/04/2019 22:47

I hated wearing underwear, I used to sit in the car and the leg holes would annoy my bum so I would pull them down and down, by the time I got to wherever we were going , the Who knickers would be down past my bum. As an adult now I generally don't wear them I find the so irritating, my DS 2 is the same and he doesn't wear underwear either 😂.
Seams in socks, couldn't have them, too annoying.
Couldn't wear jeans, too uncomfortable.

My mum and dad had a car with valour seats when I was about 8-12 and I couldn't touch the seats, couldn't stand the feeling, still can't.
My clothes had to be pulled into the perfect position, so sleeves sticking out of my jacket, gives tucked inside. It was a complete obsession.
I was a very uncomfortable child, that's most of the memories I have. My poor m put up with a lot of complaining.
I also ate some rally weird food combos like bananas in cream of chicken soup Confused

WholeLottaLottie · 14/04/2019 22:48

@Roussette her and dad where either relishing that I'm.the weirdo kid or totally made it up because I dont remeber doing any of that only the beans things because I'm.still the same

SosigDog · 14/04/2019 22:49

I remember making rose perfume with petals stolen from next door’s prized roses. When they complained my CF parents yelled how could they begrudge kids a few flowers. I totally believed they were just being nasty - with hindsight I’m mortified. My parents quite often let me do CF things though, and at the time I didn’t understand it was wrong.

Drogosnextwife · 14/04/2019 22:50

I had an imaginary friend called semin, who lived in the car and kept me company apparently.
I always wanted glasses and would regularly lie to my mum that I couldn't see properly at school!

sideorderofchips · 14/04/2019 22:51

Erm

I ate toothpaste till one day I was sick

I liked the taste of dissolvable paracetamol so used to sneak and eat them

I used to cut pictures of people out of catalogues and make them into families

Drogosnextwife · 14/04/2019 22:52

Shock I used to do the exact same thing!

nordicwannabe · 14/04/2019 22:55

DD does quite a few things similar to those described here, so it's nice to know this is normal childhood weirdness!

She'll spend hours playing with her pencils as if they are dolls. She has lots of real expensive dolls which she ignores.

TroysMammy · 14/04/2019 22:57

My sister once rubbed lard onto the bottom of her slippers to skate around the kitchen. Our DM had mixed feelings about that because she originally thought there was something wrong with her as she couldn't stand up and kept falling over. Until our DM saw little handfuls of lard had been scooped out of the packet.

Hecateh · 14/04/2019 22:58

I'm in my 60s and as a child we had a high level cistern in the toilet, literally pulled the chain. I used to be scared to death of the (newer) low level ones.

Seems crackers now as the high level ones were way more scary in reality.

sideorderofchips · 14/04/2019 22:58

I still do that with bread. And pancakes

Poppy43 · 14/04/2019 22:59

I used to put only half of my arms through my poloshirt so my elbows were sticking out, giving the illusion (well, thinking I did) that I had short arms. I used to get mums net curtains and create amazing wedding dresses. I used to suck (literally soak) a section of hair sitting in class and suck the spit through it, I actually used to think this tasted nice. Me and my siblings uses to stick a fork through a slice of bread and hang it on the fire to cook. Or we'd put a lump of cheap vanilla ice cream in a cup of lemonade and make American cream soda. I once played catch with my sister in my bedroom with firelighters and nearly set my room alight Shock.
So many wierd things. Loving all your stories! Grin Grin

fizzwhirl · 14/04/2019 22:59

@drogosnextwife - not sure it's worth us arguing over the patent Grin It's delicious though, isn't it? I used to imagine flavouring them in different ways.

MissLadyM · 14/04/2019 22:59

Did anyone ever pick rose thorns, lick the flat bit & stick it on the bridge of your nose? 😌

nordicwannabe · 14/04/2019 23:01

Did anyone ever pick rose thorns, lick the flat bit & stick it on the bridge of your nose?

Yes!! To be a rhino!

Poppy43 · 14/04/2019 23:02

The tights hair in a scrunchie is hilarious, we used to do something similar with Christmas tree strand stuff, or I'd clip all my hair forward and brush it neatly, giving myself an artificial fringe
