To ask what weird/stupid stuff you did as a kid

I think I was a bit of a strange child although maybe I’m not the only one.

One of my favourite things to do aged about 5/6 was to steal a bar of soap and some scissors, find a corner to hide in and shave wafer thin slices of soap off until there was nothing but a big pile of soap flakes. I got into trouble every time but it didn’t stop me.

Our family car had two rear facing seats at the back and if I was sitting there I used sit dead still and make blank-faced unblinking eye contact with the people behind for as long as possible. I think I managed it for about an hour once.

Once aged about 10 I set out to drink as much water as possible just to see how much I could drink. I managed a few litres (I’m aware now that I could have killed myself)

I brought a large dehydrated dead fish I’d found on the beach to show and tell at school when I was 7. Unfortunately it was the last day before the summer holidays and I accidentally left it behind. I think they had to get someone to come in in the end to deal with the terrible smell.

When I was 12 I coloured my entire face in with bright pink lipstick. It took about two days to get rid of completely.

Was anyone else a little weirdo? I think I’m pretty normal now btw!

greenpop21 I used to do that! For years...don't know why an adult never told me not to do it!

Oh my goodness I did several of these. I think one of my best was we used to experiment to see what items we could surf down the stairs on. We used to fly down in sleeping bags in an extreme manner and time each other. I think the best was the time me and two of my sisters piled on to a lilo we brought home from holidays and flew down the stairs only for us to plough into the wall at the bottom and through the plasterboard. In our old house my brother was experimenting to see which was the highest step he could jump from off the stairs until he went too high flew forward and through the glass door at the bottom. It's a wonder they didn't move to a bungalow as we were all kamikazees with the stairs for some reason.

I used to collect petals from flowers mix them with water in old jam jars / glass bottles / mums prized Tupperware so I could make perfume! It stank, it was rank.
I once mixed some seashells in on a holiday in Devon and opened my latest creation in the car on the way home and my sister vomited!!
I also used to put a bread knife under my bed if my parents went out for the night incase we had burglars....Confused

@Iremember oh my God. We used to do that on the stairs as well I could only jump from step 4. One day my mum let us slide down the stairs on a mattress, and we played on the stairs for hours with it, we absolutely ruined the wall paper.

I’m going to sound like a massive dick....cringeing writing this
I used to stand in front of the mirror perfecting my pose for when I was written about in the paper for some heroic deed
My mum worked in the gift shop of a well know tourist attraction/museum when I was a kid and me and my sister used to go into work with her quite regularly on Saturdays. We thought it was hilarious to write fake entries into the guest book (and regular entries giving OTT praise about our mum and how professional she was) and also used to walk around the museum talking in a made up language thinking we were fooling all the tourists who must wonder what country we were visiting from

I used to eat dried spaghetti but so did my best friend so I felt fairly normal.

Used to put worms in my coat pockets but so did my best friend etc. etc.

We’re still best friends in our 30s and I would say probably still as weird. Soul mates n that.

Alone I used to pray to god every single fucking night that my pot doll my mam bought me wouldn’t murder me in my sleep. I didn’t dare tell anyone I hated her incase she heard me and killed me. I’m still terrified of dolls and puppets! (I’m still a tiny bit scared that I’ve mentioned on here that I hated her)

As an adult I got beaten up and sometimes when I can’t sleep if I lay in the position I was in then and imagine I’m laid there with my injuries again I can fall asleep... if someone could explain that one to me that would be great. Haven’t even told my psychologist about that one!

When we were in the car I pretended to be the Queen, waving. My "subjects" were hedgerow plants that "waved" back, ie swayed in the breeze.
I used to also sit on the bottom stair/bannister and pretend it was a horse, I tied a bit of string round the bannister post for reins and would sit for hours , riding my horse.
I used to find it amusing to get my younger brother and sister to ask our parents/relatives really silly, nonsensical questions, eg "what's a bingbongbingtong".
Me and my brother used to pretend to smoke in the back of the car, with those sweet cigarettes you got in the 70s, thinking the people in the car behind would be really surprised at kids smoking.

I used to look as far as I possibly could into the corners of my eyes. Bit like this 👀 Till it hurt.

I used to twist my hair round and and round and round. (I still do it now when I’m really distressed and trying to hide it - usually only my big sister picks up on it).

Both are anxiety symptoms.

Those big black fuzzy flies? Every one that came into the house was my friend. And they were all called Bernie Grin

I used to sneak downstairs and eat a whole block of cheese (I was a skinny bony kid, if I did that now I’d put 2630292733 stone on).

I used to colour whole pages in just black biro.

Take my Dads vinyl records out of the sleeve to smell them Blush

Bite videos?! The covers. They were all covered in teeth marks.

Oh gosh, just remembered s really awful one....
My older cousin used to stay with us in summer holidays for a week or two, she was so cool at 10/11 to my sister and I who were 5/6 ....anyway she wouldn't let us borrow her plastic clip on fluorescent earrings, so my sister and I persuaded our three year old brother to piss in her big tapestry Mary Poppins style overnight bag Shock

If our mum ever made pancakes (crepes) my brother and I would tip our heads back and put them on our faces because it felt nice. It does, try it.

@Chancewouldbeafinethlng I used to put salt in my hair so I could pick it out too. I very much assumed I was the only one with that weird little compulsion ShockGrin

I used to drink vinegar. I would pour some into a mug and add a bit of salt
Sometimes I would add mint sauce
Sometimes I’d get crisps put them in a bowl and pour vinegar over them and eat them, all soggy
I loved the vinegar sachets especially
I still love vinegar and I used to like to drink Worcester sauce too.

@bobstersmum I still do this all the time! If I do 2 taps on one side I have to do it the other. I also tap random letters words and phrases some one has said with my fingers and thumb. I've done this as long as I can remember!

I also once walked around for a few weeks with my arm tucked into my coat thinking I was like Napoleon, I think I got this from a TV programme my mum and dad watched, I was only about 6.

I used to poke the butter in the supermarket- just liked the feeling of it but was horrified when the shop lady told me off because no one wants to buy butter with lots of finger dents in it!

Me and a friend also used to have a game where we’d sit on our skateboards, race down a back alley hill and the competition was who could get furthest in the road- that was really stupid as it was quite a busy road and we could have easily been hit multiple times in that game.

Me and my cousins used to sit on the fishing jetty's at our local lake, literally on the edge, close your eyes for 20 secs and then open them and it felt like you were actually floating in the middle of the lake Blush
Then we used to play 'England, Ireland, Scotland Wales on the jetty's jumping one to the other, One time me and my cousin thought it would be a great idea to hold hands and jump from one jetty to the other and actually feel in Confused, my cousin managed to get out as she was a couple of years older than me, I was drowning Confused look enough a lady jumped in and rescued me
Honestly when I was a kid I had no fear at all?! Blush

I used to get woodlice to curl up into balls and use them for Barbie's to play football with.

I also used to roll a metal ball bearing around my mouth, because it felt nice and cold.

I used to tear up loo paper and mix it with water, I'd then drain away the water and leave it to dry. A couple of days later and I had a new piece of paper. It was back in the day when coloured loo roll was popular and I'd mix different colours to create (or so I thought) a clever marbled effect! Sometimes I would write notes on the paper with a date like 1786 on it and post it through a gap in the floorboards hoping to trick someone who might find them! (My childhood home was built in the 1900s!)

I liked to ‘cook’ orange peel on the bulb of my lamp until I was caught and got in trouble.

My brother and I used to love making potions, getting a big empty bottle and squirting in bits of drinks, sauce, shampoo, etc. We managed to hide one for a while and when we returned to it it has sprouted leaves and we were so impressed. Never managed to replicate that!

We also spent a lot of time walking around trying not to use our knees, after we’d seen Reach for the Sky.

I used to pretend to be a horse, and gallop everywhere and neigh at intervals. Even when stared at, I just used to shake my head like a horse and gallop away.

I refused to wear anything with buttons for nearly two years because I was convinced that the sun could melt them onto my skin.

One day I found a Danielle steel book in my mums bedroom, and took it into school and told everyone it was a witches spell book. Even cast a spell on someone.

Once when I was about 8, I watched my dad decorate my bedroom, and then I drew a pirates map on my newly glossed window sill. Christ knows why.

A friend and I had a competition to see who could drink the most Badoit on a school trip once.

I also once superglued the top of my trousers together instead of asking my mother to sew on a new button. So I had dried superglue all over my tummy for days.

I also once coveted my friend’s new black woollen tights, so borrowed my mum’s navy blue 15 denier pop socks to try and pull off the look. (it didn’t work).
