Was quite shocked to see this. Will this be a test case? Mumsnet is such a tame well run site compared to the comments I see in the online press. Is the writing on the wall for free (cough) speech or is it a culling of trolling. Personally I think that something needs to be done, some folk have no filter or are just plain nasty.

Just been having a scroll through that seeing as someone's linked, not seen that one before - yeah you're right, that one seems a little bit more reasoned than some of the others I've seen

Well maybe you could link to another thread where people are putting across serious arguments and being 'ridiculed' for it. Otherwise, stop saying it.

LimeKiwi · 15/04/2019 19:11

Also, strange that you will reference other people's definitions, but still won't volunteer yours, even via Pm to someone who has specifically requested it

Not really strange, as I've told you why.

SmileEachDay · 15/04/2019 19:13

You didn’t tell me why you wouldn’t actually Lime, which is why I’ve concluded it’s because you have absolutely no idea about any of this.

LimeKiwi · 15/04/2019 19:16

You didn’t tell me why you wouldn’t actually

It's repeatedly on the thread Confused

TalkinPaece · 15/04/2019 19:16

Maybe its time for some "self identified" "men" to demand access to Boodles or Brooks or the East India or the Garrick or Whites
and see how long support for self cert lasts in the legislature Grin

SmileEachDay · 15/04/2019 19:20

It's repeatedly on the thread

Nope. You said you didn’t want anyone laughing. I said PM me because at that point I was hopeful you had something new to add. You didn’t respond.

But it’s ok. I understand why you didn’t respond.

LimeKiwi · 15/04/2019 19:22

Nope. You said you didn’t want anyone laughing

Well, if that's all you can see then fair enough. It's there what I actually said.

GirlDownUnder · 15/04/2019 19:24

Well Talkin as the descent of any peerage, dignity or title of honour is not affected by the issue of a GRC, meaning it could not be passed to a trans man, I'm not sure how they'd get on in the old boys clubs....

Worth a punt tho Grin

SmileEachDay · 15/04/2019 19:25

Where did you explain why you wouldn’t PM me? Perhaps I missed that post?

GirlDownUnder · 15/04/2019 19:26

I missed it too Smile, I remember the pinky swear tho

Ereshkigal · 15/04/2019 19:26

Quoting Langcleg from that thread who sums this issue up and illustrates the poverty of the circular definition such as favoured by the likes of RatRolyPoly and their fans:

I identify as a schnargle. What is a schnargle? Anyone who identifies as schnarge.

Are you any the wiser as to the nature of schnargle? No, you are not.

If you can't define your terms; you can't demand legislation and social policy because they will be unworkable and default to extant power structures - in this case, the patriarchal power structures which benefit males. This is why extremist transactivism is a male supremacist political movement.

TalkinPaece · 15/04/2019 19:27

Girldownunder
I checked my list on Wiki .... none of those are peerage clubs Wink

I have a friend who goes to their Public School reunions in a dress most years, but she has always been very open about the stages in her life when she was a boy.

LimeKiwi · 15/04/2019 19:32

Where did you explain why you wouldn’t PM me? Perhaps I missed that post?

I told you why I wasn't giving you an explanation. Also the it's not a secret internet corner that you're in that no-one else can see.
That you'd confirm with others when I sent one and (crucial bit) only if they were happy with the "definition" they'd never ask again.

SmileEachDay · 15/04/2019 19:34

My PMs are private. You didn’t tell me why you wouldn’t PM me.

I said I’d confirm you’d responded. Thought it might stop people nagging you.

But you don’t want people to stop, I don’t think. I think you like it.

I also think you have nothing.

LimeKiwi · 15/04/2019 19:36

I said I’d confirm you’d responded. Thought it might stop people nagging you

and it was also said that only if they were happy with the answer they'd stop asking.
We all know that there's only one answer anyone will ever be happy with.
Which is woman = biology only.

SmileEachDay · 15/04/2019 19:37

and it was also said that only if they were happy with the answer they'd stop asking

I didn’t say that.

Ereshkigal · 15/04/2019 19:43

But you don’t want people to stop, I don’t think. I think you like it.

Just look at how many words have been expended on saying absolutely nothing at all.

LimeKiwi · 15/04/2019 19:43

I didn’t say that

Sorry maybe wasn't you then but someone did.

Aquilla · 15/04/2019 19:44

It's a whole pile of bullshit, that's what it is! Stating scientific facts is now a fucking hate crime?
Freedom of speech is our most precious, Western gift. It's taken hundreds if years and countless lives to obtain it. We are letting it fall from our grasp and that's bloody disgusting.

GirlDownUnder · 15/04/2019 19:47

Oh. Are we at ground hog now?

We all know that there's only one answer anyone will ever be happy with. Which is woman = biology only.

So, if defining women is the problem for you because we are inflexible........ let's try define trans women?

LimeKiwi · 15/04/2019 19:49

Oh. Are we at ground hog now?

Seems like it, has been for a while.

Ereshkigal · 15/04/2019 19:51

Yes - what is the defining feature of a "trans woman" as opposed to any other type of "woman"? They all have something in common. What could it be? Shock

PencilsInSpace · 15/04/2019 19:54

I don't understand the thing about whether we're 'happy' with an answer or not.

Does it make sense?
Is it useful?
Is it true?

Lumene · 15/04/2019 19:54

Where has a judge said there was a crime committed? What are the allegations?

I have vile comments on twitter and other forums directed at transwomen and women, but none on mumsnet.

TalkinPaece · 15/04/2019 19:54

So, let me get this straight

A man is a person with testicles and a penis - who says they are a man.
A woman is a person with a vagina
A woman is also a person with testicles and a penis - who says they are not a man

And a person who decided they are a woman, despite having testicles and a penis can take people to court for pointing out that they have testicles and a penis.
