Was quite shocked to see this. Will this be a test case? Mumsnet is such a tame well run site compared to the comments I see in the online press. Is the writing on the wall for free (cough) speech or is it a culling of trolling. Personally I think that something needs to be done, some folk have no filter or are just plain nasty.

Why do you think someone would 'accept' an argument that they believe is totally unsatisfactory?

It's like someone arguing, I don't know, that we should bring back the death penalty because they believe that if you murder someone you should die too. Me counter arguing with 'OK but what about miscarriages of justice' and then that person just replying with 'oh well there is no point in engaging with you because unless it's the right answer you won't listen anyway'.

Sorry Girl, didn't mean to - I don't know how many times I have to say that I'm not getting into "define woman" define transwoman" as there's a few on this thread who definitely aren't interested but are pretending they are.
Maybe someone else will have a go.
Somebody asked for a name and I gave one, RatRolyPoly, that definition should be easy enough to find as I saw her have a go a few times on threads.
Others have tried too but there's not much point linking if people aren't really interested.

But I've got to be honest, if you're stating that you're comfortable accepting trans women as women and "Accept transwomen or don't. T'is up to you" I don't know how I can follow what you say when I have no idea what you mean by trans woman, specially if the rules are arbitrary?!

Unless there's going to be some central repository listing all the trans women who are actual trans women (with or without a GRC) and not 'scum' (with or without a GRC), how am I to know 🤷‍♀️

Woman = an adult human female, or one who identifies as such

Now, you can see why that might be an unacceptable definition for some. And in fact on that thread people go on to explain why they are not satisfied with it, with proper arguments. They are fully engaging without 'ridicule'.

I remember some of the answer from RatPolyPoly, it was a circular one that went something like a woman is an adult human female and anyone who feels like one. So that would include Karen White. So your opinion on who we should accept as a transwomen is different than theirs.

So for legal sake, for sports, awards, scholarships, prisons etc. do we use Rats or yours? And how do weed out the ones that are not genuine? If at all possible I would appreciate a definition that is externally verifiable.

Barbie I’d just found that one and was about to link. I think it demonstrates some of the issues with circular definitions well.

That was one name off the top of my head that has had a go with their definition.
Other posters have said there could be more to having biology too.
As I said - all you want to hear is woman = biology.

To be clear (because ya just can't seem to let it go!):

I used the crying with laughter emoji when talking about the fact that you gave one definition of woman on some thread a long time ago and because people didn't find that definition satisfactory and therefore wouldn't 'accept' your definition, you have been going ever since about the fact that people 'won't engage and won't listen'. That is what is laughable.

Also, strange that you will reference other people's definitions, but still won't volunteer yours, even via Pm to someone who has specifically requested it.

Anyway, I think that thread I linked to will be helpful to anyone lurking, seeing as that is what you are apparently so concerned with.
