That in most of these theories, along with the nakedly antisemitic ones like Holocaust denial, those based on unknown /unseen groups controlling the world economy or the media inevitably point the finger at Jewish people?

When people say 'oh i keep an open mind' or 'David Icke is right about some things' think they're being broad minded, but in reality they're buying into semi veiled anti semitism and age old myths about Jews and Judaism.

Basically people try and make you feel that questioning whether there is an elite controlling things is anti semetic, so that you don't question it.

Perhaps not most of them, but certainly a substantial portion stem ultimately from anti-semitic ideas, even if the current espousers of those theories aren't actively aware of it.

For Icke and a lot of global conspiracy ilk their foundation text is The Protocols of the Elders of Zion (1905) a forged account that tbey think is gennuine.

Yes there are a number of conspiracy theories that are thinly disguised excuses for anti-Semitism, and yes some foolish/naïve people take these ideas up not realising or caring about this, or deliberately to promote anti-Semitic thought.

There are also a number of conspiracy theories that are not related to anti-Semitism such as alien abduction.

As for things like 'Protocols', a vile text, supporters are often linked to far-right groups, I think a number of people who read this/promote it are already anti-Semitic and use this kind of fake text to spread their ideas but if it didn't exist would find some other excuse to back up their discriminatory, racist/xenophobic ideas.

Hmmm I think it's a lot more nuanced than that. Yes there are some anti semitic conspiracy theories but I think the big ones most well known like flat earth, we didn't land on the moon, anti vax, Area 51 and chemtrails etc are nothing do with religion or race.

I think a small subset are but on the whole no I don't think you can assume all or most conspiracy theorists are anti Semitic.

You can however assume they may have issues with logic or critical thinking

Illuminati, New World Order, anything featuring a global elite tends to get anti-Semitic pretty quickly. Along with Jews, Freemasons, Catholics and Communists are often cited. Generally anything where there was what could be an international unity that could be seen as greater than national allegiance.

Workers refusing to fight other workers on the orders of the rich in WW1, religious allegiance rather than national, the kinship members of a diaspora may feel are recast as secret societies and networks.

Any conspiracy theory that requires many people knowing ‘the truth’ but covering it up (which is most of them) inevitably ends up being justified by reference to shadowy controlling powers. And this frequently leads to Jews one way or another in the minds of conspiracist arseholes.

It’s just a matter of asking the fools that believe these things ‘how?’ and ‘why?’ often enough. They’ll get to Jews in the end, even if they hide behind euphemisms like ‘bankers’ or ‘capitalist-military complex’.
