To wonder how you manage to have sex on a family holiday?

I know this sounds a bit weird, but I am looking at booking a holiday, which will involve 7yo DS sleeping on the sofa bed in our room. When we've gone away previously we've done Eurocamp, so he's been in his own room in a chalet.

I was looking at holidays and suddenly thought "oh crap, where do we have sex?". I couldn't have sex while he was sleeping in the room, doing it in the bathroom while he is asleep sounds uncomfortable.

I looked at apartments and then realised that I would end up doing all the cooking and it wouldn't be a holiday for me. I am done with self catering.

Am I being weird thinking about it?

Balcony and bathroom for us!

Thisimmortalcurl · 05/04/2019 18:39

Book a two bed apartment, I like to have a kitchen and go self catering but that’s really just for breakfast and occasionally lunch , otherwise we eat out every night.
It does make it more expensive and harder to find but we have done it for years . I’d rather pay more and everyone have there own space.

Because I am an insecure woman and how I feel is directly linked to intimacy with my husband

Ohyesiam · 05/04/2019 18:42

Self catering and restaurants for evening meal.

notso · 05/04/2019 18:43

I'm really not getting this. Vacations are for all of you, not just for kids. Surely if one or both of you work, save up for a holiday, the actual holiday needs to satisfy all of you, not just the little people you take with you?
It's a series of compromises. We have four kids, two of them not little anymore. There is no holiday destination that completely suits the six of us so we do the best we can. I will happily give up the destinations I like and put up with the sun for the kids, they sacrifice the big all inclusive hotels with kids clubs and water parks they'd love to stay in.

Just don't have sex. Surely you're both adult enough to go without for a week or two. I promise you'll live.

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 05/04/2019 18:50

Clutching my pearls aghast here.....but oh my I hope we have a big balcony!!!! Sounds fabulous to me!

Feenie · 05/04/2019 18:50

Why self-catering? There are loads of places with all inclusive 2 bed apartments.

ScarletBitch · 05/04/2019 18:52

Don't have sex, simple! It's your sons holiday too!

Feenie · 05/04/2019 18:53

Not having sex for a week or two is being a grown up? Are you trying to say that adults who choose not to do that are in some way immature?!

I've heard everything now!

shesgrownhorns · 05/04/2019 18:54

Can't you just have a quiet quickie under the duvet if he's a sound sleeper?

idontlikebirthdaycake · 05/04/2019 18:55

Sooo... You're putting Sex over your child? Okay. nice to know your priorities are sorted 👍🏻👌🏻

Dungeondragon15 · 05/04/2019 18:55

Please don't have sex on the balcony. I like to sit out the evening.

OP we often book aparthotels. Some are attached to hotels so you still get the facilities.

When l was a child (l'm 60 now) we lived in a 2 bedroomed flat. My grandma lived with us, so she had one bedroom and l shared the other one with my parents. l slept on a Zed bed, right next to my parent's bed, until l was 10, when my grandma died and l got the other bedroom.
l have no idea how they managed. l did spend a lot of the school holidays at my auntie's, though...

Delegator · 05/04/2019 18:59

@notso absolutely it is about compromises. Our holiday are mainly catered for thinking of our family (it isn't as big as yours so the compromise is less I suppose).

But it is important to us that we have some time together because we work so hard and don't actually have separate holidays along. So if that is relying on holiday club or a 'quiet sex' in the bathroom / balcony, then so be it.

Fairylea · 05/04/2019 19:00

I am emotionally scarred from hearing my Dad and step mum have sex on a caravan holiday we went on when I was 14. The walls are paper thin and my batteries on my cassette player were dying... it was the longest slow motion play back of Aerosmith in my life, I was just praying the batteries would hold out the length of time they were shagging.

howwilliknoww · 05/04/2019 19:02

Just go without for 7 days..🙄

shesgrownhorns · 05/04/2019 19:02

Yes in t'olden days everyone slept 25 to a room and ma and pa still managed to keep producing babies....

Dungeondragon15 · 05/04/2019 19:03

The suggestions about having sex with the child in the room or on the balcony/bathroom are a bit grim.

DeadWife · 05/04/2019 19:03

*Easy we just don't have sex whilst we are on holiday with our children. Firstly because we aren't animals
*
Wow. Did the stork bring them?

There are always ways. one of my favourites :Run a noisy shower if bedroom is too close etc or chance DCs are in listening distance , go in together, lock door...

Tealtights · 05/04/2019 19:06

Fuck me some of the responses here 😂 I didn't realise I lived such an adventurous life by comparison.

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 05/04/2019 19:09

😂

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 05/04/2019 19:11

I think I'd rather just go without than trying to shag on the balcony, whilst worrying that a) my kid might wake up and b) there is someone next door trying to have a nice chilled evening on their bacon!

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 05/04/2019 19:12

Balcony not bacon!

StarlightLady · 05/04/2019 19:15

I’m proudly with the animals! I want sex on holiday. Even if I went on holiday by myself, I’d want sex on holiday. Blush

Positive thinking women have needs.

I would go for seperate rooms OP and if that was not within budget, I’d go for a shorter holiday with emphasis on quality.
