To wonder how you manage to have sex on a family holiday?

I know this sounds a bit weird, but I am looking at booking a holiday, which will involve 7yo DS sleeping on the sofa bed in our room. When we've gone away previously we've done Eurocamp, so he's been in his own room in a chalet.

I was looking at holidays and suddenly thought "oh crap, where do we have sex?". I couldn't have sex while he was sleeping in the room, doing it in the bathroom while he is asleep sounds uncomfortable.

I looked at apartments and then realised that I would end up doing all the cooking and it wouldn't be a holiday for me. I am done with self catering.

Am I being weird thinking about it?

Experience tells me otherwise barbie

Well, I'd rather read my Sophie Kinsella out on my balcony without accompanying shagging noises coming from next door thanks!

Drum2018 · 05/04/2019 17:19

Since our teens were 3 and 5 we have not had us all in one room while on holiday. We had a hotel room for our first holiday with them and vowed never again.

Girlsnightin · 05/04/2019 17:19

That IS what kids clubs are for!!!!

MargotLovedTom1 · 05/04/2019 17:20

I'm wondering how to ever have sex at all. Two knackered parents, three teens and pre-teens who take forever to go to bastard sleep and a peri-menopausal libido plunge have all taken their toll.

Even in our livelier days I think we would've just went without in the OP's situation.

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 05/04/2019 17:20

May even throw in some Centre Parks fun as well.
Do you ever unclench?

Why is it wrong to want sex on holiday?
I mean, yes we can go a week without it, but honestly why should we? We've got four kids with 12 years between the oldest and the youngest, family holidays are one big fat compromise. Why are we animals to want to keep this one thing that makes us happy.

BlueCornishPixie · 05/04/2019 17:24

Well if you can't go a week without sex then you would book separate rooms.

If it were me I would book an apartment, so we had space and just eat out every night. But if OP was planning all inclusive and can't afford eating out everynight then I don't think she should give up the break from cooking (and shopping for dinner which is the worst on holiday) for sex.

So it really depends on the holiday type and location. And I guess it depends if your sex life needs rekindling or is already kindled.

I personally wouldn't want to scar the neighbours too much by doing it on the balcony, but I suppose if it's private...

StephsCaddy · 05/04/2019 17:25

Is holiday sex the best bit of the holiday.

We always book villa holidays and Just have toast for breakfast - lunch or dinner out and just cheese etc for the other meal. So no real cooking involved.

le42 · 05/04/2019 17:27

In the sea? 😘 fun novelty.

MorningRichie · 05/04/2019 17:27

Don't tell your mother or she'll turn up with your siblings...that'll stop holiday sex if nothing else does.

chaoscategorised · 05/04/2019 17:29

'Animals'?!

Itssosunny · 05/04/2019 17:29

book him into a holiday club for an hour

That made me laugh. It's like they're going to die without sex Grin

Lazypuppy · 05/04/2019 17:31

Just wait till you get home? Or as others have said, use a holiday club

IHateUncleJamie · 05/04/2019 17:32

I’m amazed posters saying sex can wait till you get home!

Wait until you’ve been married 20-ish years. Easy. Grin

chaoscategorised · 05/04/2019 17:32

I find it really weird how shocked people are that two adults would want to spend their hard earned (I assume) holiday time doing something that's a key aspect of most romantic relationships and good for emotional closeness etc... I vote kids club or self catered and eat out/split the cooking!

Survivingorthriving · 05/04/2019 17:33

I sent mine to the shop with some pocket money more than once!

parttimeateverything · 05/04/2019 17:34

It's not about "you can't go a week without sex. "Of course you can, if one of you is away with work or doesn't want to etc but this is a holiday, you look forward to relaxing together for a week and enjoying life . Surely having sex and feeling close is part of that without you needing tone animals? Waiting until you get home doesn't make the holiday sound much fun and this is a looked forward to event that can cost thousands of pounds.

roundligament · 05/04/2019 17:34

Touch each other when he is asleep ? I don't know what a 7 year old is like to be fair 🙄
I think I would wait for my son to be in the holiday club then go back to the room for a bonk.
Sex is one of our favorite parts of our holidays we love spending time together making each other feel good
I would be very frustrated and feel rejected if I didn't have sex for a week

Whereareyouspot · 05/04/2019 17:35

Blimey is it really that big an issue to just not have sex for a few days?

Feenie · 05/04/2019 17:36

Easy, we just don’t have sex whilst we are on holiday with our children. Firstly because we aren’t animals and can certainly cope for a week without it

Makes me wonder how some posters ever conceived in the first place Confused

We always go all inclusive and book an apartment. Easy!

roundligament · 05/04/2019 17:36

Sex doesn't work properly standing up
It doesn't work on the bathroom floor someone always ends up on damp tiles
No
Have sex in the bed so ship him off to a kids club

NotMyUsualTopBilling · 05/04/2019 17:36

Not all DC's like kids clubs either.

Tbh, I don't know why we bother going on holiday though. It's more stressful than at home 🤣

Whereareyouspot · 05/04/2019 17:37

@roundligament why m earth would you feel rejected if the reason you didn’t have sex was because of a lack of privacy?

Don’t see why you have to link it so closely to being needed or wanted when there would be a perfectly valid reason? Rejected is a really weird way to describe it

parttimeateverything · 05/04/2019 17:37

chaoscatagorised said it better

le42 · 05/04/2019 17:38

It's not about "not being able to go a few days" it's that we all work hard and a holiday is a chance to do all the things you don't often have time for or can't. Sangria in the afternoon, lazying around with a book, having lovely sex...

Plus I can't go a week seeing my partner topless without wanting to do more than look at him !
