To wonder why people buy clear dog poo bags

I mean really...should they even exist?? Why why would you buy a clear one where you can see all the poo inside considering you usually have to walk some distance before you get to a bin?! The amount of people I see daily walking round with see through bags full of shit is ridiculous! Buy black ones!!!

And, to be fair to dog owners, the majority are sane, considerate individuals who pick up and take home or dispose of in a bin. The situation is significantly improved from the 70’s when my sister and I used to pirouette around piles of poo on what we affectionately termed ‘dog dirt corner’. The behaviour has changed and that’s why flick and stick angers me as it’s a regression. There’s a good chance here that the dumb dog owners who are currently flinging bags in to trees think themselves eco warriors for ditching the pick up altogether.

We still have 'dog shit alley' on a direct route to the Primary school lobster Sad
I buy black poo bags on a roll from Wilko because they fit easily in my pocket, and I have a roll in all my coats and jackets.
Are there any biodegradable ones that come on a roll? Yes I have rtft, but in the grand scheme of things biodegradable seems better than not.

Some black plastic is recyclable - read labels carefully. The lid on this yoghurt carton is black, but the inner seal lets you know it's recyclable.

To wonder why people buy clear dog poo bags
Butteredghost · 04/04/2019 22:14

It doesnt matter whether the plastic is recyclable. Once you've put a dog turd inside and tied it up, the plastic isn't going to be recycled no matter what colour it is.

NannyRed · 04/04/2019 22:20

Get a hobby.

It has to be fucking healthier than worrying about the colour of random strangers dog shit bags!

All the problems in the world and the choice of dog shit bags hit’s your radar 🙄

StoneofDestiny · 04/04/2019 22:36

butteredghost I don’t own a dog so no problem in this direction - my post was directed at someone who said no back plastic could be recycled.

Seymoursyourfriend · 04/04/2019 23:16

My neighbour uses the clear bags from supermarkets, that are there for fruit and veg. No idea why as our council provide free dog poo bags 🤷‍♀️

Seymoursyourfriend · 04/04/2019 23:21

You can't just throw your ddog poo into your household rubbish!.
How irresponsible is that!

How do you dispose of your dogs waste?

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 05/04/2019 00:19

We have a dog shit alley leading to a primary school too. 😟

Perhaps worse, or at least a problem on a bigger scale, is our nature reserve. This was lovingly and painstakingly restored from being a brownfield site. Many many person hours of planning, council wrangling and finally back breaking sheer donkey work brought it into being. In an area of urban greyness, the trees, birds, wildflowers and even a trickling little stream should be a place of joy. However, it has been taken over by the dog walkers and it is instead full of shit. I mean, honestly, just covered in it.

If you stray from the path at all, you will definitely step in some within a matter of seconds. It is impossible to avoid because you can't even see it beforehand due to long grass and undergrowth. So in fact only a tiny portion ie the paths themselves, is usable. And in some places the amount of shit on the paths means that every other step you are dodging shit. So hardly a place for a pleasant stroll.

The dog walkers who go there don't seem to mind - I guess some people have low standards and shudder to think of the state of their houses. But it is now just a massive couple of miles of dog toilet. It is utterly disgusting and it makes me feel so sad that people have ruined a precious resource in this way.

Smotheroffive · 05/04/2019 01:01

On the black plastic front - there's a problem with the recycling plants in terms of 'seeing' black plastic, so can't be put in recycling (despite it being recyclable - the plant machinery is supposedly being updated, AFAIK)

Smotheroffive · 05/04/2019 01:02

....but with it containing poo, its not gonna be anyway Confused

I been trialling some paper ones

Smotheroffive · 05/04/2019 01:04

Needs to.be biodegradable, but then those that are seem to need high heat as pp said, in order to actually break down

Seymoursyourfriend · 05/04/2019 01:12

You said dog poo can't be put in the general waste. In fact you scoffed at dog owners who pick up their dogs poo in bags and put it into the general waste.
You said this -

You can't just throw your ddog poo into your household rubbish!.

So how do you dispose of your dogs poo?

Smotheroffive · 05/04/2019 01:23

Was just trying to be helpful.

This thread is just descending into nasty finger pointing and vitriol, so I'm not bothering.

I'll leave you all to rant at each other. Rtft

CuriousaboutSamphire · 05/04/2019 08:25

Did I add the link to a local authority page? A random selection all said the same thing - out it in your general waste bin!

That's where you put it. It gets burned or buried, depending on where you are!

BloodyDisgrace · 05/04/2019 10:00

Because they are good people who pick up their dogs' shit. But, like a lot of good people, they may be a bit naive as to forget to worry if their clear bag might upset you.

StoneofDestiny · 05/04/2019 14:32

Agree - don't care what they lick it up in as long as they pick it up.

Palominoo · 05/04/2019 14:43

^^ Just for the record I won't be licking up anything that any of my three dogs deposit on the ground.

StoneofDestiny · 05/04/2019 15:14

lick it up/ pick it up - as long as it's not left for other people to step in.

ImMeantToBeWorking · 05/04/2019 15:28

Because the black ones (local to me) are about €5 for 50. Tesco's are less than €1 for 100 nappy bags. I know which ones I buy.

Confusedbeetle · 05/04/2019 15:31

Just be sure they are compostable (not just biodegradable, there is a difference) and take them away. Stop leaving plastic bags by the paths or hanging them in trees. In the country "Stick and flick" much better for all, and the environment

Confusedbeetle · 05/04/2019 15:35

Quite hilarious people talking about recycled plastic containing dog dirt. Yes put it in the council bin. or compost on your heap if you use a compostable bag. Use your brains, this is dog shit. What will it recycled into? Perfume?
