To feel sad for this teacher?

Beargrin · 02/04/2019 15:10

This teacher was sacked because one of her pupils saw a topless picture of her. She sent the picture to her partner two years ago and somehow the pupil got it. It seems so unfair that her whole career has been ruined. Surely lots of reputable women have taken nudes, someone should have been punished but I don't feel like it should be her.

Reading the comments on social media is so sad. People calling her a 'slag' and even a pedophile.

I'll be showing this to DD as another reason not to send nudes to anyone ever!

That said, it is utterly wrong for someone to lose their teaching position because someone else has violated their privacy and circulated nude photographs of them online. I appreciate that this happened in USA but I object anyway.

That said, we don't know what her contract said. It may have a clause about social media.

It just reinforces in my mind how once anything is out there on social media, it isn't truly safe. If you wouldn't want your granny, your boss or your worst enemy to see it, then don't type it or post it.

MargoLovebutter · 02/04/2019 16:13

..... and DS for that matter! The internet must have more teenage cock shots on it than there are men in the world!!!!! Hopefully, none belong to DS but again - no need for it to be out there in the first place.

Vulpine · 02/04/2019 16:14

She's hardly the victim as she voluntarily took and sent the photo

SachaStark · 02/04/2019 16:16

AverageMan, she is not nude, her genital area is not on display, doesn't matter what is covering it. She's showing her breasts, big deal, men go shirtless all the time, it's called double standards which oppress women by shaming and sexualising our bodies. By men, as it happens.

Marvellousnight, what has your story got to do with anything regarding this case?

chillpizza · 02/04/2019 16:16

Women sends topless picture to adult boyfriend.

Said adult ex boyfriend shares photo without women’s permission. Women loses job because of said photo.

Yet she’s to blame? Really wow!

She’s an innocent in all this.

Beargrin · 02/04/2019 16:18

@Vulpine but surely you never know the circumstances. The only nude I've ever sent was to an abusive ex when I was 14 - I don't see how that would be my fault if it came out now. There are loads of threads on here about the pressure young people feel to send nudes. If her ex has distributed the pictures it points to him not being the most honourable man.
@MargoLovebutter I don't think she put it on social media. I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, that the pictures were sent to her partner in confidence.

There is always risk attached to sending these kind of photos. Only an idiot would expect there not to be. It's a risk she willingly took.

MargoLovebutter · 02/04/2019 16:21

Beargrin, her ex-partner sounds horrible then, if he was he person who shared the images on. However, I still think nudes that are available digitally are a mistake. They are just too easy to share or be hacked etc.

Vulpine · 02/04/2019 16:23

Sending nudes as a child is a whole different can of worms and appalling. This women was an adult.

SachaStark · 02/04/2019 16:24

Yes, Vulpine, she's a victim. Because her ex-boyfriend distributed her photo without permission, and likely as an act of revenge porn. Of course she's a victim, that's not actually hard to understand.

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/04/2019 16:24

There is always risk attached to sending these kind of photos. Only an idiot would expect there not to be. It's a risk she willingly took.

Are you thins nasty about every risk? Someone drives a car and is killed in an RTA... they knew the risks. Someone gets injured playing football... their fault. Or is it just women who have to manage their behaviour so that men and boys don't have to mange theirs?

Beargrin · 02/04/2019 16:27

I just think it's incredibly sad. Even if your opinion is that it's her fault surely you could forgive her lapse in judgement. Surely it shouldn't ruin her whole career and reputation that she's presumably worked hard for?

OP posts:
SachaStark · 02/04/2019 16:27

It'll be your second suggestion I bet, MrsTerryPratchett.

It'll be entirely separate to the inherent risk of driving cars or riding horses or taking a prescription drug.

But I bet it'll be very similar to women walking alone at night or wearing revealing clothes.

FoxFoxSierra · 02/04/2019 16:31

It's not clear when the picture was taken or sent but she is only 25 and the article says it was taken years ago so it could be from before she started teaching. I don't think she should have been sacked for someone else distributing her private images anyway but if it was from before she started teaching that makes the whole thing even worse. The picture is not so bad anyway, some women sunbathe topless, if she had been in the background of someone's beach pictures you would see the same so would that be a sackable offence? Even if it was full on posing naked using a dildo she did not intend for anyone else to see that picture

Mummyoflittledragon · 02/04/2019 16:31

Disgusting she was sacked. I’m surprised the victim blaming also happens here - reference to the post that if a pic like this comes out it’s your fault.

abcriskringle · 02/04/2019 16:32

In that case, I hope all male teachers with shirtless photos floating around on the internet are similarly dismissed. Fair's fair.

Vulpine · 02/04/2019 16:37

So now we're comparing sending nude pics of yourself to driving a car?! Tbrre is never a situation where you have to send nude pics. Its always a choice. Of course she's a victim of the boyfriend's actions but if she hadn't sent it in the first place it wouldn't have happened. It's not 'nasty' to point that out. Just don't do it in the first place and of course the same applies to men.

FoxFoxSierra · 02/04/2019 16:40

The ex is also a teacher yet no consequences for him

PurpleDaisies · 02/04/2019 16:40

Just don't do it in the first place and of course the same applies to men.

Bollocks does it. Man sends picture of himself wearing a towel but topless to his adult girlfriend.. No way he loses his job.

TreadingThePrimrosePath · 02/04/2019 16:42

We had an interesting parents’ evening a few years back. DH recognised the Craft Design teacher from a LIfe drawing class a decade earlier.
I’m not surprised that this is an issue in the USA, or in the UK. I doubt that more liberal countries would bat an eyelid. Just as I work with two openly gay teachers who would be lynched or burnt in more bigoted countries.
Hopefully, we’ll keep moving forwards in our thinking.

cricketballs3 · 02/04/2019 16:47

I'd be more concerned about the teachers we used to see in the local pub on a Tuesday night sharing 3 bottles of wine between them (2 of them)

Why are you so concerned @Cjt110 about adults having a legal social life outside of school?

Cjt110 · 02/04/2019 16:49

It was lighthearted @cricketballs3

Beargrin · 02/04/2019 16:52

Fox I didn't know that, that's awful! It's his fault an underage boy saw these pictures that are apparently so awful. There's no logic here, just misogyny.

OP posts:
DaffoDeffo · 02/04/2019 16:55

I also think it's unfair. I mean fgs. Yes of course it's never sensible to send naked pics of yourself but it happens. Life happens. It's not like she was going out of her way to harm anyone - the only one who gets harmed is her.

SleepingStandingUp · 02/04/2019 16:56

If it was one of her pupils following her example they would be looking at serious charges

How do I go about getting DS's teacher sacked? She's currently pregnant. Newly married so very likely she's having sex. If DS follows her example and has sex there would be serious consequences. If DD follows her example and gets pregnant there will be serious consequences.

It's utterly disgraceful that we all know the teacher is having sex, now all the children will have it too.

Should I write to the governors or the Dialy Mail?
