AIBU?

To kick my neighbours door of :D

My neighbour has a little boy, we live in a SHITE new build and he is SCREAMING AGAIN! My poor DD has been in bed for 45 minutes and she cant get to sleep because he is screaming so loud it comes through 2 walls with the door shut 🙄 he used to scream every single night and I heard from another neighbour it was because he was used to being in his mums bed and she was trying to get him out and into his own, THANK GOD it stopped for about a month but its started again the last 3 nights, he also runs up and down and it sounds like a group of elephant are coming through the wall !!!

What makes it 10X worse is she has had words with the neighbour on the other side (terrace) DURING THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY to "turn her music down"

SO AIBU to knock on kick the door of and ask her if she could try and get her son to stop screaming so my poor DD can go to sleep!!!😁

If you kicked the door in, then you'd hear it more loud and clearly 😂😂 hope it resolves soon and your little one gets over alright

Do you really think she isn't trying to get him to stop? I suspect she is tearing her hair out too. Frustrating as it is for you I suspect it is 10 times worse for her.

@Samind I don't think the doors really matter the walls are like paper!! 🤣

And yes before anyone asks! We are planning on moving asap to an OLDER house with nice thick walls 😁

Well she hardly wants to hear him screaming either does she? So yes you would. It's not like she can just turn him down like the neighbour's could their music

@OKBobble No, iv seen her with him, she just leaves him to it! She thought he had run of the other day when she left him out the front for 5 mins on his own whilst she put her shopping away 😌 could hear the panic in her voice !

@wigglypiggly I think he must be nearly 4, he is a pleasant little boy he talks and plays outside with the other children so there is nothing wrong with him from what I can gather! He clearly just doesn't like bed time as he doesn't scream much in the day...

Flowers for you and I totally get where you're coming from.

However, can you imagine what she is going through, there are probably mn threads. I can't get my LO to sleep in his own bed, he absolutely screams the house down, he must be driving my neighbours insane, I just got him off today and my other neighbour started playing her music at full whack I'm at the end of my tether, please help.

I'd be so upset if someone wrote this about me. I've a baby with colic and inknow children who can be nightmares and parents who are at their wits end and in tears because of it. How horrible that one mother would judge another for a kid crying...

You say you heard from another neighbour... why not express sympathy and ask about it next time you pass each other?

YABVU and suggest you think back to when your child/children had tantrums. I can almost guarantee that Mum is wishing for it to stop, too.

@billybagpuss I don't think he would be taking a nap at lunch times and my neighbour never has her music to loud as like I said we are all living in a terrace, what I was trying to point out was if there is any noise or disturbance she is not happy with she is soon telling people to quiet down! 😂

Paper thin walls make terraced houses hell to live in. I wish there was a minimum level of sound protection.

@annoyingneighbour but loud music is unnecessarily irritating and can be helped, a child screaming is completely different and often can’t be helped.

I understand that it must be really frustrating for you and you have my sympathies but I also feel really sorry for his poor mum 😔

@sirmione16 My child does still have tantrums, plenty of them, she is almost 3 with a speech delay and very often has break downs when she cant get me or her dad to understand what she wants or needs, but like I said I sort it within 5 mins not to disturb the neighbours..

This is a 4 year old child screaming from the moment they get home till he falls asleep and that can be 1/2/3 AM

If he was a baby or young toddler then I can 100% understand and sympathise, but he isn't and what makes it worse is he NEVER cry's when her mum comes and babysits so the only reasoning I can think is that she leaves him in his room to cry till he falls asleep....

I highly doubt the OP is wanting to kick the door in. It was a tongue in cheek post. Yes I understand that the neighbour next door doesn't want their little one crying and screaming either but we do have the right to moan about things. Jokingly or not.

My lo had colic?/ Reflux and is now teething so you can imagine how many unsettled hours I've had also. I couldn't care less if someone posted online about it. They need an outlet too.

Maybe you could give your neighbour parenting lessons as you're so wonderful and manage to quieten your own tantrumming child in 5 minutes? I'm sure your neighbour would love to know your secret.

@Samind Oh when my DD was 1 she screamed all the time and her room is next to my other neighbours bedroom, But every time I saw the neighbour I would apologise and explain that DD was teething and it couldn't be helped 🤷🏻‍♀️

@annoyingneighbour my point stands - why haven't you asked if she's struggling? For all you know she could be passed out on the sofa with a bottle of wine with the kid locked in his room. She could be on the other side of the door having her own breakdown wishing it would stop.

I just think unless you know for certain it's just her "way of dealing with it" then you're being unnecessarily harsh is all..

You sound very judgemental and YABVU.
You have no idea what is going on with that child and I really don't think any parent is going to want to listen to their child screaming until 3am without trying to do something about it.
My son has serious behavioural issues, when he was younger he would be awake all hours of the night shouting, kicking the walls. I tried everything, I had sleep experts in, saw pediatricians etc. Always apologised to the neighbours but luckily they're very understanding.
Think yourself lucky you have a child that you can calm down within 5 minutes and give the poor woman a break. You could always ask if theres anything you could do to help if you are that concerned about him.

I don't apologise for LO crying at these times 😂😂 think cause i have to listen to dogs barking sometimes and the staggering home drunks (slightly jealous at times haha been a long while since I fell in a bush 😂😂😂) or the loud neighbours that have conversations at about a million decibels. I just think we all as neighbours have things to listen to so noise doesn't bother me.

I see both sides and your side too as it affects your daughter sleeping! Which impacts on her and the household. I'm not bothered by your post nor would I be if I was your neighbour. Hopefully he gets settled soon and then DD will get some shut eye.
