To leave my suitcase to be unpacked tomorrow

My dh is literally doing my head in.
We’ve got back from the airport an hour ago after an intense week of coaching my dd at a week long competition.
My dh is literally running around like a headless chicken demanding I separate what I need to wash etc. Sure I have work tomorrow but I planned for that and don’t need to unpack our unfortunately shared case.
I’ve separated all of his stuff and left mine in the case and said I’m going to shut the case and sort it tomorrow. I will definitely sort tomorrow and do the washing but nooooo apparently I have to sort it now because I’m being a slob. Piss off dh.

Sorry for long post. I don’t even care if aibu I just need to sound this out from the peace of my blanket and sofa...

YANBU, the washing will keep.

But YABU for use of word literally. Is your DH really a headless chicken?

SneakyGremlins · 31/03/2019 20:27

Crack open the wine. It's illegal to unpack a suitcase when drunk, doesn't he know Wink

Floralhousecoat · 31/03/2019 20:28

Yanbu. Don't unpack. Don't give in to him. He sounds overbearing. It's a non essential task and you sound frazzled. Put your feet up and take it easy.

ItsThisOneThing · 31/03/2019 20:29

You need wine, a blanket and trash TV.

Definitely do not approach the suitcase under any circumstances.

Expressedways · 31/03/2019 20:30

Why have you seperated all of his stuff Confused If it’s that important to him shouldn’t he should be doing it?!
But no, YANBU to want to relax tonight and do it tomorrow.

Mum2jenny · 31/03/2019 20:30

The case will still be there next week, there's no hurry to unpack. Just get some Wine and let it be.

peachgreen · 31/03/2019 20:31

Unpacked suitcases make me twitch, I have to say. Thankfully DH is the same. Having said that, if it's bothering him that much, he should do it!

HuckfromScandal · 31/03/2019 20:31

Unpack
It takes 10 mins
And then it’s done
Much better than leaving it.

I know that I am not going with the majority here, but I flipping hate leaving the unpacking,

Mammyloveswine · 31/03/2019 20:32

Im sure my suitcase still has clothes to unpack from a trip away last year....

Chocolateisfab · 31/03/2019 20:34

Hide the washing powder....
Don't be like my ex ils who on the day of returning from time share hols washed /ironed /repacked the same clothes for the following year's holiday..
We had to look at the photos every year too..
The same fellow time share owners, same places of interest, same clothes. And fil in same socks with his same sandals!!
Same feelings from me of wishing I loved Gin.

starabara · 31/03/2019 20:38

Unpack the case. As someone who works away most weeks, I learnt long ago that no matter how tired, you unpack Friday night, because otherwise, half your shit has disappeared and not yet dried or whatever by Sunday night when you need to be in the car on the way for the next week.

tobee · 31/03/2019 20:39

To be fair to op she did say literally like a headless chicken Grin

dementedpixie · 31/03/2019 20:40

I normally unpack but only into the laundry basket. The actual washing can wait

Boulezvous · 31/03/2019 20:59

I left my bag all week after a weekend away. Sorted it today. Sometimes I do it straight away. Who cares?

Or he can do it if he wants....

Cravingcake · 31/03/2019 21:09

I’ve been known to keep a half unpacked suitcase in the bedroom for over a week just to annoy DH Shock

onthenaughtystepagain · 31/03/2019 23:18

We usually open the cases downstairs, take out anydirty washing and then take them upstairs to be further unpacked.

Tinyteatime · 31/03/2019 23:24

What the actual fuck? I sometimes leave my case for weeks after I get back. It’s like going shopping for new clothes when you finally unpack. Your dh sounds obsessive.

Littlechocola · 31/03/2019 23:31

Why can’t he do it?

happymummy12345 · 31/03/2019 23:34

I'll be honest I'd get it unpacked. When I've been away in the past I've needed to get things out the case (phone charger, hairbrush that sort of thing), so I think I may as well take the stuff out then it's done.
But no way would I be sorting washing and things. Empty the case and put all washing in the basket, and sort it when I'm next sorting washing would be what I'd do in this situation

Sally2791 · 31/03/2019 23:46

I don't unpack from one holiday to the next. As far as I'm aware the sky hasn't fallen in. Do what makes you happy

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 01/04/2019 03:58

I sometimes leave my case for weeks after I get back. It’s like going shopping for new clothes when you finally unpack.

Do you normally go off on an expedition in search of lovely, smelly, festering new clothes? Grin

I definitely wouldn't see any problem with leaving it a day or two, though - especially if you're back late in the day/evening. In fact, we only usually travel in this country and have been known on every the very odd occasion to leave the whole car packed overnight, except for electrical items, anything that could look nickable or stuff for the fridge.

Butteredghost · 01/04/2019 04:08

I like to unpack straight away, however it doesn't bother me at all what others do as it doesn't effect me. They can leave their case for months, or set it on fire if they wish, not really my problem is it. YANBU.

NutElla5x · 01/04/2019 04:24

Wouldn't it have been just as easy to sort the washing there and then seeing as you had to seperate your husband's anyway? And am I the only one who doesn't mix clean clothes with dirty in suitcases anyway?

honeylulu · 01/04/2019 06:34

Was he proposing to do the washing? If so I can see his point.
Laundry is one of my husband's jobs and he often asks me and the kids to sort our stuff and put anything dark/ light/wool etc we want washed in the basket by x time. We oblige because he's having to organise it and we get our laundry done for us.

If he's demanding you empty your case so YOU can do the washing, he can buzz off! (Unless you've left the case dumped on the floor in the way, that would be quite annoying. )

donajimena · 01/04/2019 06:38

I came back from a trip 3 weeks ago and I haven't unpacked Blush I have taken the washing out of it though. I just cba doing the rest.
