O please lets do that. Revoke, rethink and re- refer.

Remainers are being more proactive, mainly because they need to be.

To refer to the petition as dodgy is wrong but to state that the numbers are verified and correct would also be wrong.

It is a shame now - in this instance - that leavers are dismissing and belittling the actions of fellow citizens who are trying to make their voice heard. It may well happen the other way round but that is not the example being discussed.

Its not a case of "may well happen" look at the most recent march by leavers, on here it was dismissed and belittled. Once again neither side shows themselves in a good light. Which is something that really needs to be remembered.

The petition should not change policy in and of itself but it sets an agenda and gives an indication of public feeling. If we give in to the cynicism and do nothing we become part of the problem.

A statement that we should all agree with.

Peregrina · 31/03/2019 22:44

People who are either British Citizens or living in the UK are eligible to sign and there is no age restriction on it. The body which scrutinises the petitions reckons that only 4% of signatures come from abroad, but this is perfectly legitimate. My DS is abroad and has signed, as he is entitle to do.

I had just seen a link to another petition. I didn't remember whether I had signed or not. It turned out I had and had an email immediately telling me I had already signed.

Some of the criticisms sound like Leavers getting a bit desperate.

TBF, anyone that isn't a little bit desperate about the current situation hasn't been paying attention.

Peregrina · 31/03/2019 22:48

....on here it was dismissed and belittled. Once again neither side shows themselves in a good light. Which is something that really needs to be remembered.

It needs to be in context: a march of more than a million had no arrests and a very low police presence. A march of a few thousand had five arrests and needed a high police presence. Which also needs to be remembered.

lovemylkids43 · 31/03/2019 22:49

No the first vote should stand ..... otherwise it will turn into a dictatorship

Peregrina · 31/03/2019 22:51

Really? Isn't Brexit going swimmingly then? The need us more than we need them. Easiest deals in history. What is there for Leavers to be desperate about?

Alsohuman · 31/03/2019 22:51

Wtf? How does another vote become a dictatorship?

Lifeover · 31/03/2019 22:52

Well it’s still not up to the number of people who voted remain last time which might suggest a bigger majority for leave than even the referendum.

Also there are no robust safeguards to ensure that people aren’t signing multilevel times from different ip and email addresses and that all people signing are eligible UK voters.

Which part of the post didn't you understand?

Peregrina · 31/03/2019 22:56

You don't have to be eligible UK voters - you either have to be a UK citizen or live in the UK. As it says when you sign the petition.

What needs to be in context is that people's voices need to and should be heard and not belittled and dismissed, or does that only work for one side.

Because that attitude is what got us in to this mess in the first place.

cindersrella · 31/03/2019 22:57

Do what the majority want not the minority. This has been voted once.

Alsohuman · 31/03/2019 23:00

The majority might have a different view after this shitshow. Just saying.

May's solution to this has been voted on three times so far. With no changes.

Should we not be able to vote again knowing what we know now?

Peregrina · 31/03/2019 23:06

We should be doing what in their judgement Parliament believes is the best for the country. For example, until recently, most people would have chosen to bring back the death penalty. Parliament has decided that it's in the best interests of the country not to do so.

anonymousobserver · 31/03/2019 23:08

6 million isn't that great really, is it? I mean, not considering that it's last chance saloon and all that. You would think that you'd get at least as many signatures as voters in the referendum (excepting the couple of million kids who make up the 6 million signatures, of course).

So what about the other 10 (or 12) million?

Logic would suggest that they have changed their minds.

To everyone stamping their feet and demanding a people's vote - be careful what you wish for.

So what do you do if parliament doesn't have a clue?

cindersrella · 31/03/2019 23:10

What exaclty are parliament even voting for.. I don't think they know any more... what I do know is the 17 million people voted out of the EU and that is what I think should happen.

David Cameron is probably sailing off the shores of somewhere hot leaving Theresa May with a shower of shit to sort out

Alsohuman · 31/03/2019 23:12

This thread is leading me to think universal suffrage is possibly a mistake.

Peregrina · 31/03/2019 23:20

Presumably some, or I would say, a good few, in Parliament do have a conscience and do have an idea of what they think would be beneficial for the country. Without being whipped to vote on party lines, I would hope that a consensus began to emerge. It would have been better to have had this debate two years ago, but that's now water under the bridge.

I don't include Johnson or Rees-Mogg. They voted twice against the WA because it would make the UK a vassal state, and then a third time voted for exactly the same WA, which would still make (in their eyes) the UK a vassal state. This smacks of naked ambition or self-interest on their behalf.

BronwenFrideswide · 31/03/2019 23:24

Part of me thinks this was the plan all along - to make such a mess of the negotiations that the only option left was to revoke Article 50 and remain in the EU.

Wish they would all just hurry up, face up to their incompetence, admit defeat and put an end to this horror show.

PennyArcade · 31/03/2019 23:28

Leavers all; you have been royally rogered. If you can't see it then you'll just have to put up with the results. You wont like them but hey, you can always blame other people, why change what you're used to? You have put your faith in chancers, charlatans, spivs and conmen. Your country is a market stall with Del boy flogging off its assets to the highest bidders. You have sold the future of your children and will have to explain ton them one day why you did so

Yeah OK.... On the other hand you can count on Tusk and Juncker to to sell your children's future down the river. Have you been to France, Belgium or Germany lately? Nope? Thought not 😏

Decisions, decisions 🤔 Let me think..

cindersrella · 31/03/2019 23:43

I must say the EU leaders seem like a bunch of piss taking knobs who have no respect for women

Yes, I was in France a few weeks ago. Pleasant friendly people, we had no problems whatever. I think they appreciated that we tried to speak French, school French though it was.
