Skinny Milk instead of Skim Milk - silly pet peeves

Annoys me when coffee shops say skinny milk/coffee instead of just skim - which is the name of the milk and a shorter word!

What silly pet peeves do you have?

OP posts:
GreatAuntBertha · 30/03/2019 12:02

made with double cream Wink

Goatrider · 30/03/2019 12:05

I don't drink coffee or go to coffee shops. I thought skinny was to do with the shape of the cup you get it in Confused Tall glass instead of a mug.

I'm not even sure what a latte is -coffee with milk?

Siameasy · 30/03/2019 12:09

Wow what do you think then?
Diet/low fat/artificial sweetener-laden products everywhere. People getting bigger and bigger. If that’s not cognitive dissonance I don’t know what is. It’s clearly a LOB but because people believe that low fat etc is good then they cling to this belief despite clear evidence to the contrary.

Siameasy · 30/03/2019 12:12

Or maybe they’re just trying to lose weight

I considered this but they never do do they? Because it’s a con. Take the fat out take the flavour out=unsatisfied consumer=binge on something sugary to make up for it. All this “skinny” rubbish is exploiting people.

Dramatical · 30/03/2019 12:14

Yeah, I'm always binge eating after my entirely dissatisfying skiing cappuccino. I feel SO exploited Hmm

Dramatical · 30/03/2019 12:15

Indeed. It sounds like you have no idea what cognitive dissonance is.

GreatAuntBertha · 30/03/2019 12:17

Milk is a low fat food anyway in the scheme of things.

I think whole milk is only about 3% fat, semi skimmed 2%, and skimmed is around 1%.

HildaZelda · 30/03/2019 12:18

@Hazeintheclouds, there was someone here during the week who was quite keen to get into Bercow's drawers Grin

le42 · 30/03/2019 12:25

Spag Bol for me is horrendous ! Sounds so unappealing put like that !

OP posts:
nevernotstruggling · 30/03/2019 12:26

@AnnettePrice and surely it's a banana anyway

NameChangeNugget · 30/03/2019 12:30

Do you get out much? Wink

Siameasy · 30/03/2019 12:33

Perhaps I’ve used the wrong term? But when I look it up it gives an example of knowing smoking causes cancer but smoking anyway. People know in their heart of hearts that the Diet industry is a big con but still they soldier on.
If it’s not the correct term then what I mean is - “all evidence pointing to the contrary yet people cling to the originally held belief?”

le42 · 30/03/2019 12:33

@NameChangeNugget

I was quite literally out when this happened.

There's no silly things that ever get on your nerves? Self service checkouts? People who say "like" all the time? Croc shoes?

OP posts:
Siameasy · 30/03/2019 12:36

If you prefer the taste of skimmed then I can’t argue with that
Personally I find low fat foods unsatisfying Also, why do low calorie dieters always fall off the wagon/have to have cheat days/treats? That’s my experience of low cal and from family and friends. It doesn’t work

Goatrider · 30/03/2019 12:36

I read about an informal survey someone did at a health fair, asking people what the fat content is of whole milk. Nearly everyone massively overestimated, some even thinking it was over 50%!

ChristineBaskets · 30/03/2019 12:38

People who say 'full fat' Coke. There's never any fucking fat in Coke!

Dramatical · 30/03/2019 12:38

If you prefer the taste of skimmed then I can’t argue with that

But you did?

Personally I find low fat foods unsatisfying

One personal experience.

Also, why do low calorie dieters always fall off the wagon/have to have cheat days/treats?

Because dieting is about balance, so it's ok to have a day off or a treat.

That’s my experience of low cal and from family and friends.

So a very small experience.

It doesn’t work

For the few people you know. Literally thousands of people have lost weight by reducing their calories.

le42 · 30/03/2019 12:39

@ChristineBaskets ah that is annoying! It's also just "coke" ...... if you mean Diet Coke you will say Diet Coke 🤔

OP posts:
pigsDOfly · 30/03/2019 12:42

You stole my post ChristineBaskets. I was just about to post that. Grin

Irritates the hell out of me.

GreatAuntBertha · 30/03/2019 12:45

I call it fat Coke, because it make me fat if I drink too much of it.

Dramatical · 30/03/2019 12:47

I call it fat Coke, because it make me fat if I drink too much of it.

I thought that's why people said fat coke too tbh. Not because it contains fat, but because it can make you fat Blush

le42 · 30/03/2019 12:47

@GreatAuntBertha 😂😂😂😂 that's allowed haha!

OP posts:
TheLoneWolfDies · 30/03/2019 12:49

" the people who buy into this sort of thing are usually overweight but experiencing cognitive dissonance

People who say things like that are usually very insecure and bitter. Enjoy judging eh?

I drink diet because full fat and full sugar drinks make me feel sick. I'm not overweight but hey, if you say so.

pigsDOfly · 30/03/2019 12:51

But they don't say 'fat coke' Dramitical.

Everyone I've heard use the expression says 'full fat coke', which I've always assumed means the opposite of 'low fat coke' ie diet coke.

Crinklesmile · 30/03/2019 12:52

I was a barista in Australia in the 90's and they had actual Skinny Milk
