OK, it's doubtful Brexit is going to happen any time soon but definitely worth coming along and standing up for what we voted for.

Very little coverage in the media - unfortunately no full page spreads in the Standard for us....

It will be going on until early evening so still worth turning up if you can't get the day off work. Lots of great speakers including Julia Hartley Brewer, Claire Fox, Kate Hoey et al.

Still can't believe they had to pay fifty quid for the privilege of taking part!

Burpsandfustles · 29/03/2019 00:00

Far right and far left are both awful.

Unfortunately where one group turns up the opposing group does deliberately to fight.

Accusing all leavers of being on same page as Tommy is like lumping every labour voter as being socialist anti Semite violent nuttter.

It's facile, play ground stuff.

LonelyTiredandLow · 29/03/2019 00:00

Surely it is possible for us to have different views and at least remain civil.
I somehow doubt that will be the case tomorrow, although it was last weekend. If you get anywhere near the 100k mark I'd expect multiple arrests and worse.

TheWomanin12B · 29/03/2019 00:00

@lonelytiredandlow SODEM are staying away tomorrow because they have been warned by the Police they are likely to be attacked. They aren't the yellow vest Tommy Robinson thugs doing the attacking. SODEM are peaceful.

Kenn, I'm not sure if that means Steve won't be there too. I hope not for his safety, but agree he shouldn't have to stay away, but that's the trouble with the sort of people the government are pandering to.

LonelyTiredandLow · 29/03/2019 00:01

Burps you aren't factoring in the significance of the date tomorrow.
Many Leavers have had it drummed into them that this is a betrayal. The language used by the organisers is inciting hostility and therefore it will likely be dangerous.

LonelyTiredandLow · 29/03/2019 00:04

Well if your own side are attacking/threatening your own side by your own admittance...Hmm
But sure, come along MN'ers! Grin

PerpendicularVincent · 29/03/2019 00:05

I won't be there, I think Brexit is a dreadful thing Sad

GeordieGenes · 29/03/2019 00:07

@woman19

I'm a remainer, but that is an appalling thing to say. Emotional blackmail at its worst.

woman19 · 29/03/2019 00:16

Truth hurts.

RevokeRemainRebuild · 29/03/2019 00:17

Julia Hartley Brewer, Claire Fox, Kate Hoey et al

Hmmm really tempting Grin

Anyway, happy Brexit Day, OP. Oh wait ...

DrReed · 29/03/2019 00:17

There are hordes of police in Parliament Square all the time

No there really aren’t. Though I’m sure there will be tomorrow. I know all pubs in Westminster have been sent letters by the police warning them to have extra security measures in place. I’ll be staying well away thanks.

Calloway · 29/03/2019 00:20

Will that Wurzel Gummidger Mr Wetherspoons be there?

He's so hot.

BigChocFrenzy · 29/03/2019 00:31

I stay away from marches that have police warnings to those of different views

Lalliella · 29/03/2019 00:31

@Hillfarmer I love you!

ClariceCliffe · 29/03/2019 00:31

Woman19
Extremely distasteful.

PortiaCastis · 29/03/2019 00:36

No thanks I don't want sodding brexit so I'll pass and anyway nige gives me the rage and that tuss yaxley-lennon yapping off would get right up my nose so I'll stay at home ta, anyway will probably end in a punch up
That wetherspoons bloke had the cheek to send me his bilge so I sent it back to the nearest branch

HaroldsSoCalledBluetits · 29/03/2019 00:59

I can't come as I will be enacting my own version of brexit by stabbing my foot with a garden fork and giving foreigners the stink eye.

EluphNaugeMeop · 29/03/2019 04:11

It is very difficult for most people to get to London to protest. People have jobs, family commitments, animals that can't be left, daily routines and obligations. In any given protest, for every person who marches there are many more who wish they were there.

So clearly the number of brexit supporters protesting in London today will not be all the brexit supporters there are. Given the 48:52 ratio and the fact that the pro-EU march last weekend had a million marchers, there should be circa 1.08million pro-brexit demonstrators now.

Unless of course the vast majority of brexit voters have realised they were wrong, and the only people protesting are the wiley rich with vested interests, the ardent anti cooperation independence-at-any-cost gang, the racists and the violence-as-a-hobby crew. Then there will only be a much smaller crowd obviously.

All the factors why there are plenty of pro-brexiters who just physically can't be there will have applied equally to the pro-EU side last weekend. Loads of people were carrying placards that listed the names of people who wanted to be there but couldn't.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 29/03/2019 07:14

No thanks. If any march is going to kick off it will be this one. There have been posts on twitter from people like Suzanne Evans encouraging attendees to come along to demonstrate their 'rage' at their 'betrayal', and Yaxley- Lennon's thugs will be out in force.

The march on Saturday didn't need 'hordes' of police to keep factions apart (I saw a group of about 40 pro-brexit supporters yelling, and they were politely ignored by the million marchers). And the fact that SODEM have been expressly told to stay away says it all about the atmosphere that the police are expecting this afternoon.

By all means head over there though, OP, and see what a delightful bunch of violent thugs you're associating yourself with.

Even if I had voted leave, getting to London on a Friday would be a PITA and with the police warnings, no way would I want to be involved.

Burpsandfustles · 29/03/2019 07:30

Eluph.

I work and have small children, I'm more than happy too march if Brexit doesn't go through.

I'm not marching today and I'm not happy at all, that the far right have wheedled their way into Brexit at all.
And if I was to ever bear a placard aloft one side would say something Brexit related.
The other would be telling Tommy Robinson to f off.

givemesteel · 29/03/2019 07:42

There wasn't 1m remain protesters last weekend. A widely inaccurate estimate which has since been corrected to 300-400k protesters.

If you want to see the disrespectful, arrogant, ovine, stupid side of the Remain vote, just click on any Brexit thread on Mumsnet... It just gets swamped by the same echo chamber every time so there's really no point.

OP I don't think the rally will be well attended, for lots of reasons, it's in London, the Remain capital of the UK, Leave voters are older so less willing/able to stand around in the cold and less tech savvy so may not be aware of the demonstration are some reasons.

Depending on what happens I think a lot of Leave voters are keeping their powder dry to see what happens in the coming weeks.

Remain voters, I wouldn't complacently think that because they're not making a lot of noise at the moment that they've conveniently changed their mind.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 29/03/2019 07:43

Do you have a source for that estimate, givemesteel?

Burpsandfustles · 29/03/2019 07:49

I don't care how many marchers went.
5 million could have gone.
16 million voted stay.
It was a really great march and thankfully it didn't seem infiltrated by momentum Etc. I did worry when I saw the socialist fist flag unfurling.

Give me steel is right that leave voters are still out here and waiting to see what happens.

Don't think we have gone away
