Our 4 month old puppy was attacked last week and today as a follow up they checked over her mouth and found a lump that wasn't there last week, it's 'of the bone', not soft tissue about the size of a pea. The vet wants X-rays but he isn't happy.

It's definitely bony but the vet suggested putting her to sleep or refer her to a hospital or Fitzpatricks for removal of her jaw bone and inserting a metal plate or just removing the jaw.

Is there any way it isn't cancer?

X rays on Friday and I'm so worried

Good news OP Smile

makeitalargegin · 29/03/2019 21:14

I'm so glad puppy is ok Smile

That other vet and excuse my language Blush
Is a Fucking imbecile.

nespressowoo · 29/03/2019 21:25

Noel will love your pup! And more importantly, if they do need surgery he will do a fab job. He looked after my border so well x

LuvSmallDogs · 29/03/2019 21:27

So glad your little sweetie is okay. Can’t believe your bloody vet though!

My dad’s beloved cat sadly died last year due to an untreatable brain tumour. They thought it was an ear infection initially because he put his head on one side, but then his pupils went uneven. Dad accepted Stripes’s fate, but the few last weeks they had were precious. On his last morning, dad carried him (he couldn’t walk) around his favourite bits of their garden and his ears twitched at the birdsong. Then dad drove him to be PTS.

Just RTFT - sorry Blush
Fabulous news! She is gorgeous x

Angie169 · 29/03/2019 21:53

I am so glad to see your pup is going to be ok .
I hope that when that first vet stubs his toe someone tells him his leg needs to be amputated . Angry

If you like the new vet you are with then stay there but I can highly recommend this vet too ashleigh-veterinary-centre.com/ . the practise has been there for at least 30/35 years, I have take all of my small pets ( cats , dogs , polecats , birds etc ) there I use the one in cholton but there is also one in Sale They will explore all the possibility of treatment but are realistic too and wont encourage you to keep a ill pet alive just for the sake of it ( and the cash ) .

FineFanks · 29/03/2019 23:13

So glad your pup is OK! To think that if you’d taken your original vets advice and PTS over a dental issue makes me shudder!!!

Change vets and report the negligent one ASAP

DontCallMeShitley · 30/03/2019 18:24

Report the first vet, and leave reviews so that other pets are not needlessly killed.

Justaboy · 31/03/2019 22:39

So pleased that this loveley little soul is now on the mend. Words fail me re the other poor excuse for a vet though, report him to their proferssional body please in case some other innocent dog is made to suffer in the same way!.

recrudescence · 31/03/2019 23:00

What a lovely pup - so glad she’s going to be OK. I hope you do make a complaint about the original vet - it’s insane that euthanasia was offered before a diagnosis of serious illness had been confirmed.

yiskasha · 01/04/2019 00:16

I think some vets are just looking for money these days. I am so glad your dog is okay, and that you looked for a second opinion. I hope you make a complaint with the original vet. Absolute cowboys. They know we will pay anything to make sure our pets are healthy and they really do take advantage of it.

CanuckBC · 04/04/2019 05:12

@NewYoiker I thought it would be from the attack! It was just to coincidental to not be related.

I am so happy to hear that your pup had her surgery and is recovering albeit a bit noisily❤️

I would report the first vet to the proper body as advising you to put her to sleep without further investigation is unethical IMO.

Your pup is adorable! Enjoy some snuggles as she recovers❤️🦴

NewYoiker · 11/04/2019 08:39

Random update, we went back to the vet for a post op check and they weren't happy that the lump hasn't gone. So she had more in depth X-rays and they've found she's got a broken jaw.

The line that goes across the roots of the teeth is the fracture line. Now I feel bloody awful! Although we have been giving pain relief anyway but it explains why she doesn't want to chew

Your poor puppy , the dog that attacked her must have been very forceful.
What happens now, will the fracture heal on its own or need supporting ?

NewYoiker · 11/04/2019 09:13

It should heal on its on with soft food and no chews. However she'll always have the lump on her jaw as it's the body's way of healing the fracture

OP posts:
SirVixofVixHall · 11/04/2019 09:25

Poor little thing, I hope it heals quickly and that all is well, she has been through a lot for such a tiny pup. Stressful for you too.

IAmNotAWitch · 11/04/2019 09:27

Poor darling, still at least she isn't dead. Report that first vet.

Lazybonita · 11/04/2019 09:41

Poor puppy, hope she recovers quickly. Please consider reporting the first vet to the Royal College.

TheViceOfReason · 11/04/2019 10:04

Glad your pup has something which WILL heal.

Do report the first vet though - they are a liability and should not be practising.
