Any vets around? Massive ethical issues

Our 4 month old puppy was attacked last week and today as a follow up they checked over her mouth and found a lump that wasn't there last week, it's 'of the bone', not soft tissue about the size of a pea. The vet wants X-rays but he isn't happy.

It's definitely bony but the vet suggested putting her to sleep or refer her to a hospital or Fitzpatricks for removal of her jaw bone and inserting a metal plate or just removing the jaw.

Is there any way it isn't cancer?

X rays on Friday and I'm so worried

I'm almost speechless that you could have lost your dog for the sake of a tooth issueShock.

Please report the vet and tell us all who they are Angry

NotSureThisIsWhatIWant · 29/03/2019 17:11

Great news! He may have been trying to force you into more expensive unnecessary treatment. Stay away of that vet, fancy doing such a diagnosis with such a young dog, no X-ray and knowing the pup had been attacked!

diddl · 29/03/2019 17:24

That is fantastic, I'm so pleased for you.

WTF is wrong with the other vet??

Hope there's some way of reporting him.

"He may have been trying to force you into more expensive unnecessary treatment. "

But then why suggest pts there & then?

Booboostwo · 29/03/2019 17:38

That’s great news!

BlueSuffragette · 29/03/2019 17:40

You dog is beautiful. Your original vet is a disgrace. So glad your dog will be ok. Hope you have many wonderfully happy years together. Flowers

Highlandcathedral · 29/03/2019 18:19

Great news, happy healing little pupster.

Climbingahoneytree · 29/03/2019 18:25

Run away from that vet as fast as you can. To suggest PTS when he doesn't know what is actually wrong (just suspects) is ridiculous.

At that age your pup has it's whole life ahead of it. I would take the referral the Fitzpatricks. Noel isn't a miracle worker but he's the best of the best and will do what is right for your dog.

Climbingahoneytree · 29/03/2019 18:28

Also get a second opinion from your vet because the vet is suggesting big things based on what sounds like nothing other than an examination.

Climbingahoneytree · 29/03/2019 18:29

Sorry just seen your update. Amazing news. Report the original vet for absolutely disgraceful practice.

Shoppingwithmother · 29/03/2019 18:34

That’s good news. Also anyone wanting to avoid that vet will know who they are as you can see it on your dog’s tag!

ChrisPrattsFace · 29/03/2019 18:47

I would like to defend the ‘can’t X-ray till friday’ comment...
In a small practice we have limited staff/kennels/resources. We have turned xrays away because we don’t have the kennel space and because we have too many other surgical procedures/inpatients/xrays to do - it just can’t be fit in, in the small time frame we would have. It’s not that we don’t want to help - it’s that we physically do not have the space or time. (A PTS is done as an appointment - hence why ‘he would have had time’ To do that)
If the animal is eating and drinking (as OP says) there would be no worries in us booking the patient in on another day.

However - can’t explain everything else that vet said. I assume there is more to the story because it certainly wouldn’t happen in my practice.

Glad to hear it was a dental issue OP, and she’s on the mend! She’s very beautiful.

LaurieFairyCake · 29/03/2019 18:49

Phew!

Such a beautiful dog, you're so lucky

CharlesChickens · 29/03/2019 18:55

Poor pup, that must have been painful. Should heal nicely now though. Will her adult tooth still come through properly ?
Your old vet should be told, and please do complain.

rosinavera · 29/03/2019 19:25

Sooooo pleased for you and your beautiful pup! xx

whylie · 29/03/2019 19:37

So so so cute 🥰🥰🥰

FermatsTheorem · 29/03/2019 19:38

Thank heavens! I mean, poor dog - dental surgery is miserable. But much better than being unnecessarily PTS. Flowers and dog biscuits (where is the dog biscuit emoji when you need it? - Though I guess doggy won't fancy any for a while.)

puppy23 · 29/03/2019 19:41

Brilliant news, get well soon handsome lad

LoobyLou1976 · 29/03/2019 19:49

Hello, vet nurse here.
Sorry to hear about your dog, I'm glad it has turned out to be a dental issue rather than something more serious. I'm very puzzled as to how this was not spotted upon examination, its very easy to see when the deciduous (baby) teeth are still there and if they are causing a problem with the adult teeth coming through. I'm assuming like another RVN on this thread that there is more to this story than meets the eye. Somewhere there has been a huge miscommunication or crossed wires. If the whole story has indeed been told then it is very odd. Also, I would just like to say that there are many wonderful vets and practices with oncology interest, it doesn't begin and end with Noel Fitzpatrick! Being on TV does not make him 'the best of the best'. My friend works for him so I do know a little! There are LOTS of good vets.

And like the other RVN, I agree that if an animal is not in immediate danger/pain/emergency, then sometimes appointments do have to wait due to no staff available/no kennel space to house the patient.
I hope your dog recovers soon.

Poochnewbie · 29/03/2019 19:54

Sounds like you need a new vet! Your pup is beautiful. Definitely wait and see. Everything crossed that she makes a full recovery xx

Pannalash · 29/03/2019 20:09

What a relief for you OP, please report that Vet to prevent the possibility of other animals being needlessly PTS in the future. The advice from that Vet was outrageous.

CharlesChickens · 29/03/2019 20:10

Oh sorry, I missed the bit about her adult tooth needing to be removed too. I am sure she won’t miss it.

onionchucker · 29/03/2019 20:30

So glad that the problem was discovered and could be treated.
Original vet sounds horrendous.
If in doubt always get a second opinion.

Pk37 · 29/03/2019 20:40

Fucking hell! That first vet has a lot to answer for .
what kind of vets first port of call would be to PTS without even checking all other avenues first?!
So glad your pup is ok

NanooCov · 29/03/2019 20:43

So glad to hear she's going to be fine. Love borders. Best dogs ever. I'd complain about the first vet to their professional body.

Poochnewbie · 29/03/2019 20:54

Sorry, I totally missed your updates! Ignore my previous comment...but do get a new vet xx
