He should have got her a cab first (before his own)

Hi, in a desperate attempt to find relief from Brexit, we’re here having lunch and discussing my friend’s date last weekend.

Ladies of MN, please may we put it to you for the casting vote as we’re in some disagreement. To cut a longish story short, the date had gone well until they were on Charing Cross Rd and his Uber came first so he got in it and just left my friend standing on the street!

Now he’s texting her to meet again. She’s inclined to not bother, I feel as if I agree with her, but two others here think she should give him another chance (citing excuses such as traffic, it’s hard for cabs to stop, etc).

WIBU? Shouldn’t he have called her a cab and seen her off before just sailing off into the night? By the way, we are all early 40s so she can’t be bothered messing about.

Thankyou in advance.

Maybe she has no Uber app? No phone? No hands?

Jesus wept....now that would be a huge drip feed Grin

Sirzy · 27/03/2019 18:54

What irks people though, is when these manners are shown to someone solely on the basis of gender.

This!

MiddleClassProblem · 27/03/2019 18:54

I’m fairly sure if OP does use Uber she has a fairly low rating due to changing her destination all the time...

StealthPolarBear · 27/03/2019 18:54

"Why are people still posting when penis-wielders have given their opinions?"
Oh yes sorry silly me.

Seriously what if she was going somewhere else locally and didn't want him to know. It would have been none of his business! No one has actually answered that.

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/03/2019 18:55

No matter what people say on here, that kind of behaviour would be unusual for people in their 40s

Most of the responses here ARE from people over 40!

IvanaPee · 27/03/2019 18:55

Pete won’t answe, Stealth. Because evolution.

StealthPolarBear · 27/03/2019 18:55

Yeah if she has no hands and definitely wanted to go home he was a bit if a git

Childrenofthestones · 27/03/2019 18:56

Hopefully he won't get a second date.
He's had as near miss getting involved with an entitled princess with double standards.

SoHotADragonRetired · 27/03/2019 18:56

Frankly, statistics tell us quite clearly that he was more of a risk to her, as her date, than anything that was likely to happen to her on Charing Cross Road, which is, again, one of the busiest and most well-transport-linked thoroughfares in London, with foot traffic and open cafes 24 hours a day.

Jessgalinda · 27/03/2019 18:56

Still wondering if ops friend is actually an escort.

That's the only time I could think travel expenses would be queried.

WheelyCote · 27/03/2019 18:58

Wouldn't see him again

donquixotedelamancha · 27/03/2019 18:58

And if you insist on being last, then presumably the woman is rude!

stealth Ah. Misunderstood. I asked the same thing earlier. BS has clarified that the woman must leave first. What I can't get an answer to is why, but I gather it's some combination of tradition and evolution.

Well, this thread has taken a turn for the entertaining, not least because some of the people in it are plainly insane. (It doesn't bother you, BlueSaphire, that your examples of standard behaviour hail from literally a century ago?)

………………………………………………………………………

Nope, if it works for me , and obviously plenty of others on here, why should it bother me?

Jessgalinda · 27/03/2019 18:59

Wouldn't see him again

Because he would think the woman was one huge red flag?

Jalila07 · 27/03/2019 18:59

@OP, do you understand Uber? Since you’ve used it a lot?”

Er yes I use it pretty much every day. For instance, if I was going to Hampstead or into town I wouid Uber it rather than drive because it’s generally cheaper than the parking. Also a lot less hassle.

I must say I’ve never really tried to order two at a time though. I did once when I needed Uber’s for two DC at once and it was problematic. I thought I just hadn’t worked out though, rather than being impossible. Maybe there is a way?

I though women wanted to overcome traditional and stereotypical gender roles.

Having a penis does not make you better able to use an app.

I'm off now, you and your friends are absurd.

Jessgalinda · 27/03/2019 19:00

Nope, if it works for me , and obviously plenty of others on here, why should it bother me?

You must a basis for that opinion though. Thats all people are asking.

Hint....because of evolution is not an answer.

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 27/03/2019 19:00

Yeah if she has no hands and definitely wanted to go home he was a bit if a git

Maybe she had no hands as she has 'evolved' to the point of them withering away due to her expecting others to do everything for her?

SkinnyPete · 27/03/2019 19:00

No, full of shit. Uber nor public transport have been around long enough to impact evolution.

No, but testosterone and the influence it has on male behaviour has. Protection is a subconscious behaviour.

Thankfully most educated penis wielders these days are intelligent enough to not act like primatives. However, the urges and some subconscious behaviours remain.

nutsfornutella · 27/03/2019 19:00

No matter what people say on here, that kind of behaviour would be unusual for people in their 40s

I'm in my 40s! If they were walking distance to the woman's house then it would be nice if he walked her home then ordered an Uber for himself. (I'm assuming that they'd known each other long enough that she knew it was ok for him to know where she lived)

IvanaPee · 27/03/2019 19:01

So then you know that if he ordered his at the same time as she did, and it arrived first, he had to take it?

Has that sunk in?

donquixotedelamancha · 27/03/2019 19:01

[Looks around thread and decides it's too sedate]

Why are people still posting when penis-wielders have given their opinions?

In fairness I think old pete said he was a man. I don't know why that would make you assume he has a penis? Try to be more inclusive in your comments :-)

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 27/03/2019 19:01

Having a penis does not make you better able to use an app.

Depends on the app I guess

Jessgalinda · 27/03/2019 19:01

Having a penis does not make you better able to use an app.

Apparently there is some evolutionary reason for it.

I am assuming the OP who claims that is off googling studies to back it up.

IvanaPee · 27/03/2019 19:02

Just not you, eh?
