To think dd should go to a and e?

She fell off her horse on Saturday. Has lots of brusing around ribs. Was checked over by paramedics and can walk.

It's a few days later and she can walk with difficulty and has sharp pains in her hips and spine. She can't bend over.

I rang the gp on her behalf and they said go to a and e.

But she's refusing. She's 19 so I can't make her! She wants to wait until the weekend and not clutter up a and e.

Wwyd?

So glad she went in!

I was in for 3 days. Let out with a back brace. No riding for 3 or 6 months (can't remember now). They suggested an OP to put a sort of cement in, but I researched and all that would give me was a quicker healing time and ther were risks, so I declined. No idea if the pain I get now, the slightly odd right leg, and the sometimes ouchy muscles would've been different / better if I'd had the OP. On the plus side, I can walk, and go to the loo okay, and scramble about, so I'm extremely thankful to my friend for making me go to A&E.

Hugs to you and her lass.

go. I fell off a horse 3 weeks ago and broke 4 ribs and my collar bone. If it is ribs they can't really do anything anyway but they can prescribe some decent pain meds.

phoebewallerbridge · 28/03/2019 13:07

Well done OP!

sodonesooverit · 28/03/2019 17:30

Very pleased to hear she's being looked after. Fingers crossed all is well

notapizzaeater · 28/03/2019 19:10

So much better safe than sorry, hope she is paying attention

Tink2007 · 28/03/2019 19:21

Well done on getting her there, OP. Xx

MrsMozartMkII · 28/03/2019 20:11

How's she doing? How's you?

Fazackerley · 28/03/2019 20:34

She's home. She broken two ribs and they think there's a small compression fracture in the middle.of her spine. She's got a back brace which is really uncomfortable apparently. No riding for at least 3 months. She's really really low Sad

Oh bless her, Im sure she is.

But far far better now than to have hurt it further and never ride (or worse) again. I was in a wheelchair for months after a bad fall and it was miserable at the time but better than the long run.

I hope she starts to feel better soon!

billybagpuss · 28/03/2019 20:39

Oh god, Flowers for you both and at least you know so hopefully she can heal.

All the best

QuestionableMouse · 28/03/2019 20:40

Oh bless her. Three months will fly over though and she'll soon be back.

aibutohavethisusername · 28/03/2019 20:41

Glad to hear that she went, hope she recovers quickly x

BlondeBumshelll · 28/03/2019 20:42

Oh God, poor DD but I bet you're glad she got seen to now!!

Hope she feels better soon, 3 months must seem like so long to her but I'm sure it could have been a lot worse.

Fazackerley · 28/03/2019 20:45

Thank you. It's awful timing as she was looking forward to doing lots of riding before she has to leave dhorse in September Sad

lljkk · 28/03/2019 20:46

Bloody Hell.
I'm glad she went.
There could be no riding for rest of her life if she doesn't respect the severity of those injuries & that they need time to heal.
(is what I'd tell my DD).
It's not forever. I hope the pain management gets better.

Fazackerley · 28/03/2019 20:47

I am so glad we went. Thank all of you. I feel so so sorry for her.

LakieLady · 28/03/2019 20:48

Oh the poor girl!

When I broke two ribs they were so bloody painful that I would have happily accepted euthanasia. She must have a very high pain threshold.

So glad you persuaded her to go, OP and hopefully that 3 months won't drag too slowly.

YesQueen · 28/03/2019 20:48

Get her to follow all advice!
Mine was different as a spinal op but I had private physio after, a couple of rehab PT sessions and advice from the surgeon that really helped
I had to do loads of walking and basic core stuff like standing on one leg, walking on uneven ground etc and then went back into the gym before getting back on horse. A gel seat saver (acavello) helped me plus loads and loads of hacking before I started schooling again (great for fitness too)
Let her wallow for a while. I was shattered and miserable for a few weeks and then saw the light Smile

Fazackerley · 28/03/2019 21:36

She's got to go back next week for them to have another look at the spine. She's got some amazing lòokong painkillers, quite tempted to take one myself

Looking. Not sure what that weird word even means Confused

UrsulaPandress · 28/03/2019 21:41

Oh bless her. Dangerous beasts horses.

MrsMozartMkII · 28/03/2019 21:51

So glad it's not worse.

When I could get started I found a mix of physio and equipilates worked very well. They complimented each other.

Completely get your DD's angst. Mine happened the weekend before I was due to take my horse to a riding training camp. In the end my DD took her and I watched as much as I could.

RandomMess · 28/03/2019 22:02

Poor DD but remind her months of riding is worth it rather than having to give up for life.

Thanks to you both

Fazackerley · 28/03/2019 22:49

Thanks again. Dhorse has bashed his leg so could do with having a couple of weeks off. I'm not brave skilled enough to ride him so dd3 can.

You'll be glad to know dd said thank you for insisting she went!!

TapasForTwo · 28/03/2019 23:06

I'm so glad she caved in to common sense. Maybe next time she won't be so stubborn. I hope your DD makes a speedy recovery Flowers
