To think dd should go to a and e?

She fell off her horse on Saturday. Has lots of brusing around ribs. Was checked over by paramedics and can walk.

It's a few days later and she can walk with difficulty and has sharp pains in her hips and spine. She can't bend over.

I rang the gp on her behalf and they said go to a and e.

But she's refusing. She's 19 so I can't make her! She wants to wait until the weekend and not clutter up a and e.

Wwyd?

Good luck op - she really needs to be seen. I've done similar and really, you don't mess with spinal injuries.

YesQueen · 27/03/2019 13:39

Tel her to go. I had a spinal op and then had 8 weeks recovery before I can ride. Point out if the horse was as lame as she was, she would call the vet

WhenToWorry · 27/03/2019 13:39

Hope she’s seen soon, OP

UrsulaPandress · 27/03/2019 14:09

Is it her own horse? How on earth is she going to look after it if she cannot bend down? At least if she gets checked out and knows she hasn't done any damage then she can work through the pain.

cestlavielife · 27/03/2019 15:38

Go home and drag her to a and e

sodonesooverit · 27/03/2019 16:37

I hope she's in a and e now!!

QuestionableMouse · 27/03/2019 18:00

Ask her if she'd get the vet out if her horse was non weight bearing. Ask her why she does not deserve the same treatment.

I'd actually want her in an ambulance just in case she can't get in/out of the car. (happened to a friend and the fire brigade had to cut the roof off the car to get her out!)

Sewrainbow · 27/03/2019 18:07

I'm a radiographer - please tell her to go, access to x ray and scanners will be easier on a week day, a radiologist will be on hand to review them as will all other specialities if needed. If she is white with pain then something isn't right.

She is being stubborn/scared I would also say "go to prove me wrong then" to her, they won't dismiss her.

UrsulaPandress · 27/03/2019 18:18

Good point Mouse. Bet she’d have the vet out immediately.

RandomMess · 27/03/2019 19:16

I hope you are at A&E!

Psychologika · 27/03/2019 21:23

I've been thinking of her today - I hope she went!

UterusUterusGhali · 27/03/2019 21:39

Hope you convinced her to go! Gah we spend so much time trying to raise independent young women and then they bloody go and become infuriatingly independent. Grin

She does need to go.

billybagpuss · 27/03/2019 21:45

How is she OP, I hope she saw sense.

Crunchymum · 27/03/2019 21:48

I hope you 'dragged' her if she was still refusing.....

whatsleep · 27/03/2019 22:23

Hope you’ve managed to get her seen and that nothing serious is wrong.

Girlinstripedpyjamas · 27/03/2019 22:28

Did you go? Really hope so

TwoShades1 · 27/03/2019 22:29

Of course she should go! I have horses and ride and she needs to be checked and possibly have some xrays. Worst case will be some time off riding to let things heal. Leaving it means possibly a longer slower recovery so more time out the saddle!

MitziK · 27/03/2019 23:13

I did almost an identical manoeuvre. Got the big yellow taxi with blue lights to the hospital whilst my head was sellotaped to the stretcher with the help of saline bags (some problem with no neck kit working).

Got discharged later in the day because feeling came back to my toes and, with it being a Saturday, there was something approaching a six hour wait for a scan, so they wanted me out.

Went back a month later because my left hand was numb.

I'd broken my neck.

Took me fifteen years before I could stand on one leg without falling over and I'm still numb on half of my hand, 23 years later.

TapasForTwo · 28/03/2019 08:16

How is your DD today Fazackerley?

Junkmail · 28/03/2019 08:38

If she hasn’t been to a&e by now she needs to go. I had a terrible fall from a horse at the same age and my knee was fucked (I landed with my foot turned the wrong way round 😱) I didn’t want them to tell me not to ride (I worked as a show jumper and groom at the time) so I just powered through but 10 years later my knee is still fucked and I actually had to stop riding altogether as I damaged it so badly and then made it worse by ignoring the problem. Please tell her she’s doing herself no favours in the long run.

Floofboopsnootandbork · 28/03/2019 08:49

I fractured my heel in 2011, didn’t bother getting it looked for week because I was sure it was nothing. I finally went to get it checked and they told me it was fractured but had started healing wrong so I had done more damage to it by walking around for weeks. It never heeled properly and now 8(?) years down the line I’m still suffering with a lot of pain and some days can barely walk on it.

Tell her she needs to go, she’s not helping anyone by being stubborn about it and it’ll be her that suffers in the long run.

Damntheman · 28/03/2019 10:12

To be honest I would be tempted here to tell her that if she is not mature enough to take injury and her health seriously, she is not mature enough to look after and exercise a horse. She's being ridiculous.

LordVoldetort · 28/03/2019 10:15

Tell her to just humour you at least to settle your fears as a mum.

I would be tempted to say what @damntheman said!

Fazackerley · 28/03/2019 10:15

They've kept her in as they want her to have another xray and mri this morning Sad thanks for all your advice.

Faz I'm so glad you persuaded her to go to the hospital and that they've scheduled an xray and mri. Flowers
