Apple v's Samsung.

Lighthearted.

So in our house I have always been an apple brand and my dh has always been Samsung. There's been a bit of banter over the years (mainly from him) that apple is crap etc etc.
Anyway last weekend he smashed his screen. Completely unusable and will cost £280 to fix. Which isn't gonna happen. The only spare phone in the house is an iPhone.
Last night he kicked off how he couldn't do this and that (basically he didn't know how, not the phone couldn't).
So I said, you do know that iphone is more popular that Samsung and you should stop moaning. Obviously he says I'm wrong. So my question is what phone do you have? Help settle a petty argument.

Samsung here Grin I find the iPhones way too restrictive and quite boring. I had one once and never again. Soon. Switched to Samsung and have been with them ever since.

cakesandphotos · 27/03/2019 11:05

I have an iPhone, DH has a huwawei or whatever they’re called. He thinks that there’s starting to be a shift away from apple and towards android. I see what he means. All the things that made apple stand out from the crowd 5/6 years ago have been adopted by other manufacturers and in some cases, they’re doing them better. I don’t see myself moving away from apple, I just prefer it but I don’t think they monopolise the market anymore

Redglitter · 27/03/2019 11:06

All Samsung in our family. Never been interested in Apple

ItsAllGone19 · 27/03/2019 11:08

Samsung. I find Apple products clunky with a poor user interface I hate my Macbook Pro that I have for work

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 27/03/2019 11:08

I'm a bit pissed off with iPhones at the moment. DS had his for 18 months when the battery died. It has just cost me £45 to replace it. My Samsung (equivalent model) lasted 4 years before the battery gave out.

All that said, I have a Huawei and it's fab and less than half the price of Samsung and Apple.

22Giraffes · 27/03/2019 11:11

Samsung here, I find Apple hard to use personally! I'm with your dh (Sorry!)

needsleepzzz · 27/03/2019 11:11

He'll get used to it, my husband is using my old iphone and after a few days was using it no problems :-)
I upgrade every 3 years so i guess he'll keep having my old ones which means he's stuck with iphone :-D

bruffin · 27/03/2019 11:14

Sansung here, but DS and DH love their Pixels

cardibach · 27/03/2019 11:14

I find the iPhones way too restrictive and quite boring Sorry what Goose? Not making an Apple Samsung point but I don’t understand how a phone can be ‘boring’. Or indeed ‘interesting’. It makes calls, texts, goes on internet, runs social media. It’s a tool.

darkriver19886 · 27/03/2019 11:16

Samsung here. A lot of iPhone features that are considered new Samsung usually have for a couple of years before.

NorfLondon16 · 27/03/2019 11:16

Samsung/Android all the way. Had ins iPhone but never again. I agree with the view that iPhone/Apple is too restrictive.

chocolatelog · 27/03/2019 11:16

iPhones here.

I had a samsung hated it.

Dh had a Samsung. Smashed the screen and was going to cost over £200 to fix it.

He started using my old iPhone and never went back.

At least if you smash an I phone screen it's £60 to fix it.

WhenToWorry · 27/03/2019 11:18

iPhone 100% I love my XS max

AwfulSomething · 27/03/2019 11:20

I have the Note 9, Apple just cannot compete with it's features. I had an iPhone but had to jailbrake it (thus losing warranty) to get it to function the way I wanted. Don't get me wrong, Apple make high quality phones but it's Apples way or no way. I tend to think of them as 'plug and play' phones for people who just want to call, text, Instagram, Snapchat etc. And they do this very well.

Loseitandkeepitlost · 27/03/2019 11:20

Apple. I did change to Samsung at one point but I didn’t like it at all. If bought the handset outright rather than a contract so I sold it and went back to Apple. Would never go back to Samsung again.

The Huawei phones (possibly spelt wrong) are better than both according to many!

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 27/03/2019 11:21

Samsung and Huawei in this house. Although after seeing how impressive DH's Huawei is, especially the camera I will be switching to the dark side when my contract finishes.

I think people are beginning to realise that apple items are purchased for 90% name and 10% product whereas a brand like Huawei is 90% how good is the product and probably not even 10% what name does it have on it.

ThereIsIron · 27/03/2019 11:22

DH and I both have Huawei. DDs both have iPhones. DS too young for a phone but hopefully he'll go with Android.

Raspberrytruffle · 27/03/2019 11:22

Samsung all the way here, I've had apple they are nothing but a faff , they arnt very compatible with other stuff, constant updates daily.

SpoonBlender · 27/03/2019 11:23

We're a mixed house, Apple/Android (there's not enough special about Samsung to distinguish them from other higher-end Androids). The UI ideas are different enough that moving from one to the other is always annoying, and once you get competent in either you skim past the twatty things that each of them do because you just know to work around them. The top end phones are all really impressive bits of tech.

People getting all agitated about it are just being tribal. Hey ho. Just let people enjoy their things.

monty09 · 27/03/2019 11:23

I had an iPhone speaker has given up on me! Dp is Samsung hes just upgraded to s10 n I'm having to use his old s8 I bloody hate it so iPhone all the way for me

00100001 · 27/03/2019 11:25

both very good phone makers

however.

Android wins for

  1. widgets
  2. apps in alphabetical order
nokidshere · 27/03/2019 11:26

We are an apple household apart from DS1 who is firmly Samsung.

They all do the same, internet, phone, pics. I find apple easier to navigate but I guess that's because I've always had one.

bingoitsadingo · 27/03/2019 11:27

I prefer Android. I used an iphone for a while but I didn't like that the 'back' button was at the top of the screen, so hard to use one handed, and reduced the available screen space. And it annoys me that everything has to be done through itunes, you cant just plug it in and drag/drop files like you can with android. Everything else I got used to within a couple of days.

I wish I liked iphones, their cameras are superb. I know there are lots of android phones with high end cameras but IME they still aren't comparable for most of the photos I take (moving subjects in low light)

Stinkytoe · 27/03/2019 11:28

I don’t think one is significantly better than the other, it’s just what you’re used to. I have apple because that’s what I chose first and I’ve invested in the apps and things now so it’s easier to stick. DH has Samsung and to me they’re pretty interchangeable

CloserIAm2Fine · 27/03/2019 11:31

iPhone here, mainly because it’s what I’m used to, not because I believe they’re better than any other
