Apple v's Samsung.

Lighthearted.

So in our house I have always been an apple brand and my dh has always been Samsung. There's been a bit of banter over the years (mainly from him) that apple is crap etc etc.
Anyway last weekend he smashed his screen. Completely unusable and will cost £280 to fix. Which isn't gonna happen. The only spare phone in the house is an iPhone.
Last night he kicked off how he couldn't do this and that (basically he didn't know how, not the phone couldn't).
So I said, you do know that iphone is more popular that Samsung and you should stop moaning. Obviously he says I'm wrong. So my question is what phone do you have? Help settle a petty argument.

I am Samsung now but I used to be iPhone all the way. I would never go back to an iPhone because it is very restrictive compared to my note 9. The rest of the household is iPhone but my son now wants the new Samsung and my dh just gets everyone's cast offs bless him so he will have an iPhone for awhile whilst everyone slowly swaps over.

KateGrey · 27/03/2019 11:34

iPhone here but then I’m too lazy to switch.

How do people download music to their phones if not on iTunes?

Nurseornot · 27/03/2019 11:36

I have a Huawei because you get the most for your money. My mate 20 pro has a professional photographer lens, wireless charging that can charge other phones, and artificial intelligence.

EssentialHummus · 27/03/2019 11:38

Apple, but only because I don’t pay for them! I’d prefer Google devices for usability.

Theknacktoflying · 27/03/2019 11:38

It is the price of the Apple products that put me off and the fact that the company has nowhere further to go with the phones so just reinvnts an expensive wheel ..

Fazackerley · 27/03/2019 11:39

I like Samsung because they are cheaper . Apple is a complete rip off. Dd2 likes Apple because it's cool for teens apparently

RedRiverShore · 27/03/2019 11:46

Apple but mainly because I have always had Apple stuff, MacBooks, iMac, iPad etc so use them all together. I don't actually use my iPhone that much only when I am out. Samsungs are probably lovely but don't fit in with my other tech stuff and I have never used Android. I hate using Windows though so only use Macs at home, so only would use Apple phones.

U2HasTheEdge · 27/03/2019 12:08

Apple for MacBooks.

Samsung for phone.

I used to have iPhones but I decided to try Samsung and never looked back. Apple is too restrictive. I do not like using windows computers.

The children old enough to have phones have Samsungs but I think they would have iPhones if they could afford it. They loved their iPod touch.

MorningRichie · 27/03/2019 12:08

Cakes, you do realise that the vast majority of innovations that Apple make are a couple of years behind Android? Apple only "stood out from the crowd" because people wanted to show off their iPhone.

I spent 15 years working in telecoms and was selling iPhones and S3/S4s in 2012/13 so I know this is fact. I had an iPhone in 2012 and swapped to Android once I realised how far behind it was.

The two redeeming features of iPhones is that they just work where everything is integrated with each other and outstanding battery life. Wouldn't have one if I was given it, to be fair because of the customisability of Android and they do what I want a phone to do whereas an iPhone doesn't and wont.

Dramatical · 27/03/2019 12:11

You are not going to settle any argument by asking what phones we all have.

I think the iPhone V Samsung thing is ridiculous anyway. There are lots of phones to choose from. We all choose based on our needs, wants and budgets.

Graphista · 27/03/2019 12:19

Apple here phone wise dd and i both, I have an se and dd has an xs.

Dd also has an iPad where I've got a kindle fire.

I was an android user until a friend kindly gave me their old phone when I was due to replace, which was an iPhone, it lasted 4 years, was still in good condition the only reason I needed to replace was because I could no longer update the operating system so I was unable to use the main apps I liked.

So I got the se which even when I got it wasn't the latest model, it's over 2 years old, still in good condition.

I find the iPhone easy to use both in terms of my understanding and physically being able to use one handed.

It's what I'm used to now. Probably an age thing partly - I now understand why my parents stuck/stick to what they're comfortable with tech wise.

And admittedly dd is something of a Luddite tech wise unusually for an 18 year old she'd rather use pad & pen than phone or iPad.

Genuine question for android users what are you doing on android you can't do on iPhone?

mirime · 27/03/2019 12:26

At least if you smash an I phone screen it's £60 to fix it.

Which is good as it seems to happen a lot.

I have neither. HTC for me!

Would never go with an iPhone. Too much of a walled garden and I despise iTunes.

Brazenhussy0 · 27/03/2019 12:26

I have both Smile
Samsung work phone and iPhone personal phone. The Samsung gets more use and I prefer using it to the iphone, but the iphone is easier to set up and quicker to troubleshoot if there’s a problem.
The Samsung has a mind of its own at times.

Brazenhussy0 · 27/03/2019 12:28

Oh I also couldn’t live without the Samsung notification light on my work phone now.
I’m chained to Samsung forever at this point Grin

RedRiverShore · 27/03/2019 12:29

What are all these things that people do on phones apart from text, read their emails, take photos and browse the internet or use a couple of apps. If I am at home mine just sits there and I use my iMac or iPad and play music on my HomePod. I use my iMac or iPad to text and any other phone type of stuff so don't really need to use my phone and I can take calls on my watch. I use my iPad when sat on the sofa, do other people use their phones a lot at home instead of computers and tablets.

pinkhorse · 27/03/2019 12:31

Samsung all the way here.

YouCantBeSirius · 27/03/2019 12:35

I've never had an iPhone or any Samsung. I love my Huawei though. Takes beautiful pictures

bordellosboheme · 27/03/2019 12:38

Huawei mate pro. My best phone ever! Has a super camera in.

Billben · 27/03/2019 12:38

Samsung Galaxies here

Basecamp65 · 27/03/2019 12:39

Samsung for me every time - everyone who I know has an iPhone has a permanently cracked/smashed screen

MilkItTilITurnItIntoCheese · 27/03/2019 12:46

I have had an iPhone since the original came out right up to an 8+. Last year I decided to try a Samsung (I got a Michael Kors smartwatch in place of the Apple Watch I had previously and I wanted full android functionality. That was the only reason for changing). Last week I gave in and went back to the iPhone. I just couldn’t get on with the Samsung. Some features I liked but I couldn’t type without putting full stops in every sentence randomly because of the daft positioning on the keyboard. I wasn’t convinced it had a better camera either although I was told it did. I bank with Barclays so can only use their banking app not the android pay so I couldn’t have my dh’s bank card on my phone which I find useful for buying food and fuel. Overall I am delighted to have my iPhone back and won’t stray again. Didn’t make enough difference on the watch to worry about either. It’s apple all the way in this house.
