Heavy sighs all round. Can't make sense from nonsense people, time for bed. Good night.

noblegiraffe · 26/03/2019 00:04

Peanut, 3 years on, why are you only just now asking if we can make our own stuff? (answer: no).

HollowTalk · 26/03/2019 00:05

Arts, business and sciences will suffer... can't we fund our own stuff? Can't we make our own stuff? Can't we trade with other non eu countries?

You really couldn't make this up.

HollowTalk · 26/03/2019 00:06

By civil war, do you mean people will loot shops?

Chloemol · 26/03/2019 00:06

@youblunder. Are we? Everything I read on the internet says we pay more in that we get out, so 2017 £13b in Eu gave us £4b back

BeardedMum · 26/03/2019 00:06

I hope they cancel Brexit. The leaver will show their anger either way because if things get bad if we crash out they will still blame remainers and the EU. I don’t feel i have anything to lose by remaining.

ScarlettSahara · 26/03/2019 00:07

referendums are advisory

A very clear promise was made before the vote though- that it would be honoured.

Al2O3 · 26/03/2019 00:07

the U.K. are net contributers

Yes to the tune of £9.4 billion. To put that into perspective this is equivalent to the total revenue collected by HMRC between now and Saturday evening. Just under five days of tax.

Peanut1983 · 26/03/2019 00:07

Look I don't think I'm alone, well I'm not. 17 million other people thought similar to me. And many still do. I wonder how many of them are questioning their choice? How many still have questions?

Orangecookie · 26/03/2019 00:07

Honestly @peanut and other leavers - it’s up to you to find the facts. You are not children to be spoon fed. You should all have thought about the border issue in Ireland - and found out whether and how people’s lives will be affected there. BEFORE you voted.

Very sad you didn’t.

Lockheart · 26/03/2019 00:08

Yes @Chloemol, that's what net contributors means.

YouBumder · 26/03/2019 00:08

Are we? Everything I read on the internet says we pay more in that we get out, so 2017 £13b in Eu gave us £4b back

Yeah I think that’s what being a net contributor means. Unless I’ve got my terminology mixed up! It’s why they’d quite like us to stay ;)

Chloemol · 26/03/2019 00:09

I have found more and more there is no point in leavers contributing on posts such as these as the rabid Mumsnet Remainers simply don’t/won’t listen, tell us we are talking a load of rubbish whatever we say, and of course totally believe they are right, dispute the referendum saying leave, and some of their comments being wrong. I just giggle to myself now.

Al2O3 · 26/03/2019 00:09

A very clear promise was made before the vote though- that it would be honoured

And that if we left we would get a deal. Not that the majority would suffer because a handful of politician will benefit overwhelmingly from 'disaster politics'.

Boris has had his haircut for a reason.

goldengummybear · 26/03/2019 00:10

Peanut- if you look at what decisions Westminster make then there is a long history of the Tory Party cutting benefits and services. They don't have a good track record for investing in the regions and introduce policy like Universal Credit which has actually caused deaths. These decisions are nothing to do with the EU.

The EU is far from perfect but areas outside the South East received investment that the Tories probably wouldn't have made.

Al2O3 · 26/03/2019 00:12

You should all have thought about the border issue in Ireland - and found out whether and how people’s lives will be affected there. BEFORE you voted.

Then what happens when Argentina reasserts its claim to the Falkland Islands? There will be no allies from Spain and Portugal, who will have more influence over the EU.

krustykittens · 26/03/2019 00:13

Whatever way you voted, I think it is pretty disgusting to threaten violence if you don't get your own way. Brexit hasn't been cancelled. If it does get cancelled by say, a second referendum where people get to vote on the actual deal or choose to stay in and they choose to stay in, that is democracy. People are allowed to change their minds in a democracy. No society should bow to the pressures of those who threaten violence.

goldengummybear · 26/03/2019 00:13

We were not told that Leave meant Hard Brexit. We were told it could be Canada Plus, Norway-model etc

Sakura7 · 26/03/2019 00:13

*How much money have we already lost by companies going abroad?

How much money have we spent on sodding no-deal planning?

How much did all those fridges cost? The ferries?

How much will be spent on negotiators for trade deals?

Do you really think a massive operation like Brexit is actually an up-front money-saver? When do you think there will be money in the pot for the opera*

This x 1000.

Peanut, the money that was supposedly going to be saved by leaving has already been thrown down the drain. Taking the rebate into account, the UK paid in circa £4bn to the EU in 2017.

In contrast, Brexit has cost the UK £500m a week, which equates to £26bn a year, and it hasn't even happened yet. So leaving costs more than 6 times what EU memebership costs, and for what benefit?

goldengummybear · 26/03/2019 00:15

Even JRM suggested a second vote

To think this could be the end of brexit as mps take control of the process from the PM
Backwoodsgirl · 26/03/2019 00:15

Go on, tell me. Exactly how does this civil war kick off and how is it fought? What is going to happen exactly? Who is going to drive which tanks? Who is fighting who and what uniform will they wear and what do they look like?

It will start off small, then I suspect that Russia will smuggle in weapons and provide covert training (spetznaz) for no other reason than the fact they seem to enjoy destabilizing countries.

The leave resistance will slowly grow, and collect captured British military equipment, in exactly the same way as every other civil war.

NATO will sit by and watch as it wouldn’t be a attack on a member, just a escalation of the Brexit mess, and the government are being challenged.

The US would get involved to safety remove nuclear weapons from the UK, I suspect that will be the extent of any involvement.

Peanut1983 · 26/03/2019 00:16

If I'm honest I suppose I voted in a way for myself and my family. I always do. I don't think about the bigger picture! I don't want to work in Italy etc I'm not thinking about the people that do want to go work in Italy. Not my problem.

I didn't directly think of the border because i didn't actually read or understand much on it at the time.

I voted Tory because the cuts in benefits have not affected me directly in the past.

I voted for the bloke in our local elections that promised to clamp down on dog poo. A problem that affects me directly.

If I voted in a way that thought of everyone, I'd have to put a tick in every single box

PinkieTuscadero · 26/03/2019 00:16

there is no point in leavers contributing on posts such as these as the rabid Mumsnet Remainers simply don’t/won’t listen

Did you not notice the rabid leaver loon promising hellfire and damnation and violent vengeance upon anyone who stood in the way of Brexit?

WattdeEll · 26/03/2019 00:16

Anyone for a pint in the Winchester?

FoundNeverland · 26/03/2019 00:17

Peanut - as a scientist are you not concerned regarding drug approvals as we will no longer by a member of the European Meducines Agency? Also how do you think the UK will gain access to radioisotopes if we are not part of Euroatom?

People will actually die because of both these things...
