Signed by who?

Anyone can sig it with an email and any old uk postcode? It’s a mockery! My aunt signed 8 times and my mate signed for her and 3 kids 🙈 How on earth does that relate to public opinion?

Sunshine1239 · 30/03/2019 02:04

There’s no moment for leave as no nones campaigning as such - leave it still the main aim of both main ppilitical parties.

Sunshine1239 · 30/03/2019 02:05

Moment = momentum

Caztonette · 30/03/2019 02:05

That's true of any petition, yet this was the largest there has ever been to the Uk government.

Sunshine1239 · 30/03/2019 02:11

I understand numbers wise but really it doesn’t suggest anything in terms of change of opinion etc. It could equally be 50% fake given you only have to tick box that you live in Uk - anyone can say that!

Brexit is all that’s in the news at present - unlike normal petitions. Why haven’t more remainders signed it?
If anything it suggests leave would win - given the lower number of remainers who bothered to sign it compared to those who voted originally, you’d think it would be much higher given the urgency?

Caztonette · 30/03/2019 02:17

I believe around 4% of the signatures were from outside of the UK (and I was one of them and am a British citizen).

I agree the Petition does not necessarily imply a change in public opinion. The opinion polls do though. Of course, there's only one way to find out for sure...

Caztonette · 30/03/2019 02:19

And there's a good reason why more people vote than sign petitions. Voting always produces a result, petitions seldom seem to.

twofingerstoEverything · 30/03/2019 07:32

No! Brexit has to go ahead with a No Deal - no matter what the vote was in Parliament.
Okay, Educator, talk us through this... Why does that 'have to' happen?

Langrish · 30/03/2019 10:05

*It is their responsibility to represent the clear, unambiguous wishes of the majority”

That’s not what representative democracy means.

Parker231 · 30/03/2019 20:33

@Educator66 - why on earth would you want a no deal. It’s the worst possible outcome. It would be an economic catastrophe in business, redundancies, banking, supply chain, exchange rates, inflation - why would you want any of that?

Windowsareforcheaters · 30/03/2019 22:33

petitions seldom seem to.

Petitions aren't intended to end in a result, they are meant to influence and pressurise. Obviously.

Langrish · 31/03/2019 10:16

Sunshine1239

Does your aunt have 8 email accounts? Each signature has to be confirmed by clicking the confirm link which isn’t sent more than once to the same e-mail address.

Sunshine1239 · 31/03/2019 10:17

She just made fake ones! I have 4 email accounts that it’s regularly. Work, home, online account etc. Yo can go on somewhere like yahoo and make one in a couple of minutes! Anyone across the world can

Langrish · 31/03/2019 10:24

I’m astonished anyone would go to the trouble! Really.

Sunshine1239 · 31/03/2019 11:36

There’s people on here who’ve signed on behalf of kids and their pet 😂

SalmonFishing · 31/03/2019 12:06

Oh bless the saddo so angry at the petition. The smiley faces fools no one.

twofingerstoEverything · 31/03/2019 12:07

It must be true, Langrish. There are exclamation marks and everything!!!

PortiaCastis · 31/03/2019 12:43

My guinea pig signed

Parker231 · 31/03/2019 12:51

Please watch this - one of the best speeches at the EU

Alsohuman · 31/03/2019 13:02

You did know they checked ip addresses?

PortiaCastis · 31/03/2019 13:12

Well said Richard Ashworth a great speech and well worth listening too, far better than the usual rubbish

twofingerstoEverything · 31/03/2019 13:58

Please write and thank him. He is probably getting bucketloads of abusive emails and letters now.

Alsohuman · 31/03/2019 14:29

I very much doubt that somehow.

Cool story bro and didya, aye?

Just because you don't know how ISP's work and how the petitions staff work doesnt mean they dont work, please stop parroting faradge's absolute bullshit although its what the leavers have been doing for years so unlikely to stop now

bellinisurge · 31/03/2019 15:26

Wow @Parker231 . Thank you for posting it. Will now share. To cheer people up.
