AIBU?

Shark v Dyson??

Posting for traffic, sorry! Please help me choose a new hoover.....

My Henry has finally packed up and I have up to £350 to spend on a new vacuum.

I have a townhouse with 4 floors so it needs to be cordless and light, and can deal with multiple surfaces.

It seems that Shark or Dyson is the way to go, but which one? And which model is the best?

Thanks!

The 22-minute cordless shark is on offer today on Amazon for £210. Is that a decent deal? My old cordless Dyson is dying and now might be a good time to replace it if the price is right...

Jinglesplodge

That does sound like a good deal!

Thanks for all your help everyone. In the end I got a Shark Cordless duoclean truepet. With 10% off it was £340. Very pleased. Hope it's good! Will report back.

I think the main thing you can take from these types of thread is that people have very different experiences of the same item!

Sorry I don’t know how to quote but in reply to the V10 comment- it works for 6 minutes on full power. I thought there must be a fault but when you look on dyson website it does state this. It’s advertised as running for one hour. This is apparently on lowest power and without the motorised head. I haven’t tested this. I’m just using it on full power and accepting the short bursts of activity.

I have the corded shark lift away. Its the best vacuum cleaner I've had, I've had a Dyson, miele and Henry before it. Plus it has headlights.

Oh I'm quite disappointed, from the title I was visualising James Dyson and a BIG shark, fighting to the death in a tank. No preference as to vacuums.

If I want to pick up mostly random bits of food like sweet corn & frosties is shark good?
I was going to get a dyson until I read this!
DDog died so I need a better food hoover...

My Dyson V6 is still going strong after three years. It is worth watching YouTube videos on how to maintain it a couple of times a year and it will work as good as new.

Not Dyson. Never again. I bought a Sebo which has been great and still comes top in Which reviews.

I was just reading this with interest as I would like a new vacuum - have a dyson and don’t think it’s that good

Shark cordless stick vacuum cleaner is 40% off on Amazon today - £209.99 from £349.99

@Jinglesplodge just saw you posted about the Shark Amazon offer too. I’m thinking the same. Sounds like Shark is a winner and 40% off is pretty good...

Just noticed the Shark upright cleaner is 30% off on Amazon too. From £249.99 to £173.99 🤔

Shark here too, after having a dyson ball for years. Shark wins hands down for me. I have a corded one though as I cant be arsed with charging batteries and have a lot of carpet to go over plus pets. The only downside that I see some others have also mentioned is quite a small bin compartment.

@Elloello I would go for the corded shark, it does have a long lead, the duct compartment is larger than the dyson, but does fill up quicker because it sucks up much more dirt than the dyson, it is a very powerful machine.

OK.....reporting back.

My Shark arrived yesterday and I have hoovered my whole house twice already. It took me about 20 minutes, when using Henry would have taken well over an hour!

I think I might be in love with my Shark, it's fantastic.

Thanks for all the suggestions, really happy!

Apologies for resurrecting yhis thread but I’m in need of a new vacuum and wondered how you were all getting on? I’m not bothered about a cordless but I’d like one with the zero-m technology; which from what I’ve read doesn’t get human hair tangled round the head. Is this true? I shed a lot of hair and we have a cat. (I’ve read on some threads that the little wheels under the head break and can lead to wooden floors getting scratched- is this thx Case?) thank you

I’ve had two Dysons. The V8 cordless and one of the ball ones. I hate them! The V8 is broken so in the garage so I’m stuck with the ball. Debating on whether to get a shark or a Miele. I won’t buy Dyson again. Utter rubbish.

How does the Vax cope with long human hair ?(that’s my real problem as I shed loads of hair and it wraps around my current vacuums, Miele cat and dog and g tech air ram making them both pretty ineffective)

I’ve had three cordless; Dyson, Van and Shark. Now have a Gtech Pro which outperforms and outlasts them all!
