Shark v Dyson??

Posting for traffic, sorry! Please help me choose a new hoover.....

My Henry has finally packed up and I have up to £350 to spend on a new vacuum.

I have a townhouse with 4 floors so it needs to be cordless and light, and can deal with multiple surfaces.

It seems that Shark or Dyson is the way to go, but which one? And which model is the best?

Thanks!

Only got a sample size of 1 but I'll never buy Dyson again. We got ours just over a year ago and it looks as though it's suffered 20 years of abuse. The head unit failed catastrophically and had to be replaced, the grips round the ball came off within weeks and refuse to stay on. It works fine when it works but the build quality is shocking.

I've got a dyson v8 cordless and it's brilliant.

I used to love Dysons but the last few pet ones I bought have been really disappointing.

I’ve just purchased this Shark and it’s brilliant

Another vote for shark - never wasting mondy on a dyson again.

I have a shark (the pink cordless one for pets). I love it, it's does a great job even with a black dog and cream carpet! We have a townhouse too and we need 2 batteries to hoover the whole house and stairs. The batteries take a good while to charge so if you like to do all your hoovering at once I would recommend investing in a second battery too.

The problem with the Dysons is they are great for the first 2 years, then they go rapidly downhill (im on my third, a V8)

Do the Sharks last longer?

Against all the grain here but dyson are shit and shark couldn't cope in my house (I returned it).
Vax is the only one that does, two shedding dogs, two cats, three long haired shedding women and muddy boots from others!
Around £100

I have a dyson animal. Hate it.

It's shit.

Battery doesn't last.

I want a shark

Ontheboardwalk how do you find the battery life is? Says only 22 minutes, not sure that's enough time to hoover the whole house!

WhyDoesItAlways I've got my eye on that one. Think I probably would need 2 batteries.

I've had a Dyson, and wasn't in love with it. We've most recently had a Vax, which we) and our cleaner) loved. It's six years old, had a service, but we are expecting our first baby and have put a lot of new flooring in the house, so I wanted another vacuum too. I'm taking delivery of a Shark DuoClean Lift away layer today after numerous recommendations. I'll keep my Vax too.

I have two dogs and a mix of flooring types throughout a house. I never go for a cordless.

Had both and love my shark cordless with two batteries

Loved my old Dyson and if I could get another one of those I'd get one. New dyson lightball is plastic rubbish so tried a shark which is ok and I like the low profile at the front for going under furtniture, but it is not as good as original dyson (that lasted 12 years!). The shark will do for now but I wouldn't buy another one.

I had the great pleasure of slinging our dyson animal (pullalong one) into the tip yesterday, and going over the whole house with the new shark true pet powered liftaway.

The dyson for many years would get blocked and lose suction at the slightest provocation, and reached the point where I just couldn't bear the thought of yet another sweaty hour trying to work out the issue.

The shark is a delight, easy to manoeuvre, and has sucked up a deliciously awful amount off the carpets. The only downside is its small dust capture bit, but I can live with that.

ILoveBray I don’t have a lot of carpet but I haven’t struggled with the battery time at all. The battery life is absolutely fine for me.

If you have it on extra suction power all the time I reckon it would drain the battery really quickly as it’s really powerful. I save extra power for the cat's favourite spots, normal suction is ok everywhere else.

I was expecting to have to buy a second battery (£65) to have on standby but really don’t think I’ll ever have to bother.

I recently got a shark liftaway, we have 3 floors to hoover and I find it easy even with a cord.

It’s brilliant, I have no complaints, my carpets feel so soft after hoovering as well.

When we were on holiday my aunt came round with her brand new fancy V10 Dyson to give it a proper hoover before we came back. It looked great.
Then on a whim we decided to buy a shark (liftaway) - hoovered literally two days after the Dyson and you would not believe how much it picked up. It made the carpet feel absolutely brand new.
Shark gets my vote every time (though I can't speak for the cordless ones).

Shark here too. I have the corded (long cord) lift away. Soooo much better than my Dyson.

There was a post a few days ago and a lot of the poster's that had a cordless Dyson said they could only get 10min hoovering before it need to be charged again. They also said the V10 is good though.

The Sharks are easy to empty and get the carpets so much cleaner. They are very powerful and even lift the worn down pile up so my carpet looks like new, I will never buy another Dyson.

Which looked at cordless vacs this month:

Dyson V10 81%
Samsung Powerstick Pro 81%
Bosch Athlet Ultimate 80%
Dyson V8 78%
Vax Blade 2 Max 77%
Dyson V7 75%
Vax Blade 2 72%

The Shark Duoclean came much further down the list at 63%.

I'm tempted to buy the Henry cordless, I have a vax blade atm and I hate it, anything bigger than a tiny crumb either gets spat back out by the spinning brushbar or just falls out when I've finished.
