AIBU?

Shark v Dyson??

Posting for traffic, sorry! Please help me choose a new hoover.....

My Henry has finally packed up and I have up to £350 to spend on a new vacuum.

I have a townhouse with 4 floors so it needs to be cordless and light, and can deal with multiple surfaces.

It seems that Shark or Dyson is the way to go, but which one? And which model is the best?

Thanks!

@jenthehen the more expensive liftaway is the duo clean I think. It’s a bit more versatile as you can put the big head on the wand so the unit works more like a cylinder vac. With mine I can only use smaller upholstery tools or the pet brush but that’s all I need. The duo clean has a sort of Velvet roller at the front which works well on hard surfaces.

I just needed something that would get cat hair out of my carpet. The amount that it picked up that had been left behind by my dyson was staggering. The sebo felix left much less behind.

I alternate the sebo and the shark. They seem to work differently. If I had to pick one it would be the shark but before we got this cat I was really happy with the sebo.

I have both Blush long story. A dyson animal and a shark lift away. Both excellent. Just hoovered the garage with the shark Grin and it coped amazingly. Shark is really tough and the dyson a bit of a delicate flower but easier to just zap around with no leads.

We've inherited several vacuums to add to our collection so now have a Shark, Dyson, GTech ram and Sebo. The Sebo beats them all easily and I'll never have anything else now.

Thanks Jins that’s useful info. The cleaning of the brush sounds easy. I will have a look to see if it’s worth getting the more expensive lift away.

Wird isn't it? MN seems to be very pro SHark, other forums differ. I wonder how that sort of 'hive mind' starts? It can't be deliberate. Could it be something to do with similar households, maybe?

No kids here, 1 dog. I tried a Shark DuoClean and really didn't get on with it. My Dyson v10 has been great though!

That and a Bissell Crosswave, which is pretty good at picking up dog hairs anyway, and we are all sorted!

I've got a Dyson and a shark.

Shark hands down wins imo

I have the basic shark liftaway and long hair that sheds everywhere. It’s the best vacuum I’ve used. I’ve not seen any hair wrapped round the brush at all so far but I have wrapped a stray charger cable round it.

Press the buttons on the front plate, lift the flap, remove the brush to clean it then replace. It’s revolutionary Smile

I’ve now sold my dyson (they fetch nothing second hand) and the sebo isn’t getting much use.

In the last week I’ve bought a cordless shark. (Massive reduction on the offer section of their website). It’s good, much better than my friends dyson cordless stick, but not a patch on the corded liftaway.

I have the g tech (although perhaps the previous version) and due to the speed my hair sheds its actually forced a screw out of the side of the machine.

I’ve had three cordless; Dyson, Van and Shark. Now have a Gtech Pro which outperforms and outlasts them all!

How does the Vax cope with long human hair ?(that’s my real problem as I shed loads of hair and it wraps around my current vacuums, Miele cat and dog and g tech air ram making them both pretty ineffective)

I’ve had two Dysons. The V8 cordless and one of the ball ones. I hate them! The V8 is broken so in the garage so I’m stuck with the ball. Debating on whether to get a shark or a Miele. I won’t buy Dyson again. Utter rubbish.

as someone who until my last dyson would have defended the dyson to the death i have to say go for the shark my last dyson which was the animal the hose split very quickly and just 18 months after buying it stopped picking up at the front payed out for a full service nearly £100 and two days later it stopped picking up again, i now have a vax as i couldnt afford a £300 hoover again and the vax is ace at picking up

I have this one. It's the best household appliance I've ever had.

Apologies for resurrecting yhis thread but I’m in need of a new vacuum and wondered how you were all getting on? I’m not bothered about a cordless but I’d like one with the zero-m technology; which from what I’ve read doesn’t get human hair tangled round the head. Is this true? I shed a lot of hair and we have a cat. (I’ve read on some threads that the little wheels under the head break and can lead to wooden floors getting scratched- is this thx Case?) thank you

OK.....reporting back.

My Shark arrived yesterday and I have hoovered my whole house twice already. It took me about 20 minutes, when using Henry would have taken well over an hour!

I think I might be in love with my Shark, it's fantastic.

Thanks for all the suggestions, really happy!

@Elloello I would go for the corded shark, it does have a long lead, the duct compartment is larger than the dyson, but does fill up quicker because it sucks up much more dirt than the dyson, it is a very powerful machine.

Shark here too, after having a dyson ball for years. Shark wins hands down for me. I have a corded one though as I cant be arsed with charging batteries and have a lot of carpet to go over plus pets. The only downside that I see some others have also mentioned is quite a small bin compartment.

Just noticed the Shark upright cleaner is 30% off on Amazon too. From £249.99 to £173.99 🤔

@Jinglesplodge just saw you posted about the Shark Amazon offer too. I’m thinking the same. Sounds like Shark is a winner and 40% off is pretty good...

I was just reading this with interest as I would like a new vacuum - have a dyson and don’t think it’s that good

Shark cordless stick vacuum cleaner is 40% off on Amazon today - £209.99 from £349.99

Not Dyson. Never again. I bought a Sebo which has been great and still comes top in Which reviews.
