To agree with Piers Morgan..

I find Piers Morgan insufferable at the best of times, but I was watching him debate with a guest re Primarks new gender neutral changing rooms and I found myself agreeing with him completely. I know it's not unreasonable to agree with someone but I wanted to see if i was inthe minority by being really annoyed and worried about this and how things are going in regards to single sex spaces? I am a regular primark shopper and I usually take a big bag of stuff in to try on and their changing rooms have the worst flimsy curtains as it is- I already get majorly self conscious when the curtain doesn't fully shut (it never does) but the thought of men being in the opposite cubicle rather than another woman is mortifying for me and I am just going to have to shop elsewhere. I just worry this is going to be the start of losing single sex toilets and changing areas altogether which would be hell for me. Before anyone says it, I have no problem with trans people!

A lot of people agree with Piers Morgan on a lot of things. But if you’re agreeing with him you might want to question yourself a little more.

IHateUncleJamie · 21/03/2019 10:53

Disabled toilets are gender neutral and I literally never give that a second thought.

As long as the changing rooms have actual doors rather than crappy curtains, it doesn’t bother me. Loads of shops have unisex changing rooms (Sportsdirect, Hollister, Outfit etc.) and have done for ages.

Mind you, I’m old enough to remember changing rooms in Miss Selfridge in the 80s that were just one big room with no cubicles/curtains so...🤷🏻‍♀️

I mute Piers Morgan btw so IMHO YABU for agreeing with him but that’s just me.

Marcipex · 21/03/2019 10:56

A retired Debenhams manager told me stores prefer curtains to cubicles with doors, as so many shoppers use them as toilets.

americandream · 21/03/2019 10:57

Completely with him on this.

In fact I actually agree with quite a lot of what he says tbh.

Science9 · 21/03/2019 10:57

@MyNewtMyFrogMyLittleRedDog

The period issue terrifies me about shared toilets! Mine are so heavy and I'm always in changing embarrassingly massive pads and I have had so many incidents over the years where I've retreated to the toilets. The thought of men being in there makes me feel utter dread - I wouldn't cope with it at all. Why would they make one group of people feel embarrassed, uncomfortable and upset to make another (much smaller) group feel less embarrassed, upset or uncomfortable? Can't get my head around it at all. I really hope common sense prevails and this doesn't become the norm

@Happyspud what is your take on removing single sections spaces-You just disagree with him on it then I take it?

OP posts:
Beamur · 21/03/2019 10:59

Marcipex
That's really vile.

Science9 · 21/03/2019 10:59

*must not just

We need to find the root of why women are so ashamed of periods and embarrased about going to the loo. This conditioning is the problem.

Happyspud · 21/03/2019 11:01

Science9, yes I disagree with him.

Beamur · 21/03/2019 11:01

How is wanting privacy a problem?

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 21/03/2019 11:04

Agree Lweji so I am not happy with a change which increases that problem. At least there could be grounds to challenge someone right now. Once they become gender neutral women and their concerns can just naff off, clearly.

americandream · 21/03/2019 11:05

@Beamur

How is wanting privacy a problems?

Because some people don't think women should be entitled to speak up when they are unhappy with ANYthing. 'Why on earth do you want privacy when you are almost naked? Silly fukkin womman. How DARE you ? Who do you think you are?' Hmm

TeenTimesTwo · 21/03/2019 11:05

I think that, whilst some females may not have an issue, many, many, will.

I would personally be OK with changing rooms with full height lockable cubicles, but not those with curtains or gaps above or below the partitions.

It is not OK for 'woke' or pressurised companies to be removing sex segregated spaces for changing or toilets without risk assessment and understanding of why we have them in the first place. Sex segregated spaces are permitted by law for very good reasons. Those reasons haven't magically disappeared in the last few years, whatever some activists may choose to say.

mirime · 21/03/2019 11:06

I'm not ashamed, but I'd still rather have privacy to deal with any mess caused. Pretty sure most people wouldn't want to see it either.

Science9 · 21/03/2019 11:06

@Happyspud what about finding the root of why trans women would feel embarrassed of using a third gender neutral option? Trans is nothing to be ashamed of either surely? Do you not think women have the right to have a single sex space based on things like religion, sexual abuse history and body confidence issues either?

OP posts:
Marcipex · 21/03/2019 11:07

Why shouldn't people want privacy?
Why do they have to justify it?

Mixed sex changing areas are a problem, there has been a big increase in 'spy cam' porn, these changing rooms increase the risk of such voyeurism.

Science9 · 21/03/2019 11:26

We need to find the root of why women are so ashamed of periods and embarrased about going to the loo. This conditioning is the problem.

This is what I mean about women somehow always getting the raw end of the deal. Trans women don't want to be singled out by having to use a third option toilet so women should learn to not be embarrassed of periods or anything associated with periods like washing bloody hands at the sinks etc and be completely 'reconditioned' to accommodate the trans women's preference for toilets? This is the kind of warped thing that terrifies me

OP posts:
TatianaLarina · 21/03/2019 11:26

Yep. There are voyeurism forums online that share the names of shops that have unisex changing rooms so they can go put up spy cams. They then post the results.

Spiritinabody · 21/03/2019 11:28

I would prefer single sex changing rooms but, as long as cubicles had floor to ceiling partitions and doors, a reasonable lock and working cctv pointing at the entrance to the area so that if there were any incidents the perpetrator could be identified, then mixed sex rooms could work.

I would not want mixed sex toilets. Seats left up with pee on them? Skid marks not brushed away? Having to hold back when you watch blokes walk away without washing their hands? At emptier times would randy mares take advantage of the solitude IYSWIM? No, I don"t think so.

AstonishedFemalePersonator · 21/03/2019 11:30

Surely the logical solution would be to create a third 'gender neutral' option?

The people who are demanding access to women's private spaces do not want 'gender neutral' spaces because that does not validate their identity. Their demands must be appeased at the cost of the safety of women and children.

AstonishedFemalePersonator · 21/03/2019 11:32

How is wanting privacy a problems?

Yep. Women should stop wanting privacy so that men can get what they want.

CarolDanvers · 21/03/2019 11:34

Our leisure centre does as well and it's not a Problem and your completely naked in there.

It actually is a problem. A very big one.

“The vast majority of reported sexual assaults at public swimming pools in the UK take place in unisex changing rooms, new statistics reveal.”
