Everyone knows what the green bin is for, right?!
Four bins, all different colours. OH says that it's not obvious if you're from a different town, I know that the colours vary but surely green is the same everywhere?!

We're having work done and today I found a load of broken glass in our green bin.
AIBU to think they've just been completely lazy and thoughtless and that it's not on at all? OH doesn't seem at all bothered and just made excuses for them.
I doubt he will be sorting through a mixture of rotting food and broken glass...

OP posts:

I CBA to RTFT, but I have literally no clue what a green wheelie bin is for.

I’d have guessed at paper or some other recycleable.

AliceAforethought · 19/03/2019 23:04

So yes, YABU.

Cherrysoup · 19/03/2019 23:06

Green bin=compost/biodegradable. However, my wanker builders decided to pour paint in it and put non-recyclable shite in it. Twats.

thishasjusthappened · 19/03/2019 23:06

My green bin is recycling....paper, card plastic and glass.

Backseatonthebus · 19/03/2019 23:07

Green, grey and brown here. Green for rubbish, grey for recycling and brown for garden waste. Completely different from where we lived before, blue, grey and green. Blue for recycling, grey for rubbish and green for garden waste. It's no wonder people get confused.

sackrifice · 19/03/2019 23:07

If your OH isn't fussed then he can sort it out surely?

Serendipitybojangle · 19/03/2019 23:08

I would have thought green for recycling.

HariboLecter · 19/03/2019 23:08

@kateandme the next village along to where I live (different council) have black, blue & green bins🤷‍♀️

BlackeyedGruesome · 19/03/2019 23:08

Green sacks for general waste, clear sacks for recycling.

Danglingmod · 19/03/2019 23:10

I'm keeping the colours a secret, but in my area, the garden waste bin IS where you put broken glass!

ifoundthebread · 19/03/2019 23:11

Green is general waste, Blue is recycling, brown is garden waste, black tub for paper recycling

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 19/03/2019 23:22

Green Bin for general waste, Brown bin for garden waste and grey bin for recycling here.

SilverySurfer · 19/03/2019 23:29

Green bin is for general waste
Blue lidded bin is for recycling
Brown bin is for garden waste
Small caddy is for food waste

So as you can see, OP, it's not obvious at all.

sodabreadjam · 19/03/2019 23:32

Five bins here:

-green for non-recyclable stuff (not very intuitive)
-brown for garden waste
-blue for paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and cans
-black box for glass bottles and jars, small electrical items and textiles
-silver bin for food waste

Council are supposed to be introducing another one - can't think what for.

Louiselouie0890 · 19/03/2019 23:33

Green garden blue recycling black waste

booksandcaffeine · 19/03/2019 23:34

@kateandme maybe we live in the same place, we have the same colour bins. Although the brown bin charge has been scrapped now, so maybe not.

HeronLanyon · 19/03/2019 23:35

We have no bins - flat fronts right on pavement. We have green or blue bag for recycling and bright orange bags for rubbish on pavement.
I have lived with all green bins with the kids of different colour - blue lid was recycling and brown was garden waste.

HeronLanyon · 19/03/2019 23:37

If our bins are such a mess no wonder we’ve struggled with brexit eh ?

RoseMartha · 19/03/2019 23:40

Green bin here is recycling but not glass that goes in different bin.
Black is general waste
Brown if for grass etc

CoraCoo · 19/03/2019 23:40

Green general waste
Brown garden stuff and food caddy waste
Purple glass
Blue paper and card

ohmydaysagain · 19/03/2019 23:41

Green general waste, orange for garden waste, small brown food waste, red bag plastic and tins, small green glass and cardboard, small blue textiles paper small electrical items. Kerb side recycling is a pita!

pink412 · 19/03/2019 23:44

Our black ones are general waste,
black with purple lid paper
Green is garden waste
Green with purple sticker in plastic and tins

slashlover · 19/03/2019 23:44

Big green is general waste, tiny green one for food waste. We have a stupid trolley thing with three compartments for glass/plastic/paper and cardboard which I have to wheel up three flights of stairs (third floor flat) and ends up getting blown about if it's windy.

To think Everyone knows what a Green Wheely Bin is for, even builders from a different town?!
Lockheart · 19/03/2019 23:44

Green for recycling (including glass)
Brown caddies for food waste
Black bin for non-recycling and non-food.

We don't have a garden bin.

That said, my parents bins are grey for recycling, green for garden waste, black for non-recycling. They don't have a food caddy

You'd think they could standardise them across the country. Seems a bit odd.

MissTyne · 19/03/2019 23:50

Black for general waste
Black slightly larger wheelie for mixed recycling
Black with blue lid for paper
Black caddy for food waste
