Everyone knows what the green bin is for, right?!
Four bins, all different colours. OH says that it's not obvious if you're from a different town, I know that the colours vary but surely green is the same everywhere?!

We're having work done and today I found a load of broken glass in our green bin.
AIBU to think they've just been completely lazy and thoughtless and that it's not on at all? OH doesn't seem at all bothered and just made excuses for them.
I doubt he will be sorting through a mixture of rotting food and broken glass...

Green bin for general waste here.

Blue recycling, brown garden waste, Black for glass.

PookieDo · 19/03/2019 21:43

My green bin is for recycling
Brown food
Black general

NanooCov · 19/03/2019 21:44

Our local authority don't provide general waste bins for free anymore but if you buy one off them they're green. Garden waste is brown.

Rezie · 19/03/2019 21:45

Our green bin is for had an waste but food biowaste is not allowed. My parents green bin is for all garden and biowaste. Blue is for recycling and black is for genera waste.

Malope · 19/03/2019 21:45

Black for general, grey for recycling, green for food waste!

JemSynergy · 19/03/2019 21:45

Our green bin in for recycling, the black for general waste.

deathbycats · 19/03/2019 21:47

Green bin = cans and plastics,
Grey bin = paper and card
Blue bin = general landfill
Brown bin = food/garden waste (stuff that turns brown)

We don’t have household glass recycling, you need to take your glass to Tesco to recycle those.

Twofurrycatsagain · 19/03/2019 21:48

my house:
Green - general
Blue - recycling
Green box -paper etc. Although if your box disappears you can't get another and can put it out in a bag.

My mother's
Grey -general
Blue -paper etc
Brown - recycling
Green - garden. And you've to pay

howabout · 19/03/2019 21:50

My green bin is glass, plastic, cans.

Brown is garden and food waste.

123confused · 19/03/2019 21:50

Here green bin = garden waste (and have to pay a subscription for it)

CoffeeRunner · 19/03/2019 21:54

Green is for glass here too.

Blue is cardboard, paper and other recyclable things.

Brown is garden waste.

Black is general.

burritofan · 19/03/2019 21:58

Green wheelie = general
Black wheelie = recycling except glass
Black crate = glass

Could be worse, OP, round here people throw all sorts into our recycling crates – we've had McDonald's wrappers, half a sandwich, once a used nappy... Angry

wonkylegs · 19/03/2019 22:00

Ours
Black bin - rubbish
Black with green lid (plastic & paper)
Green caddy - glass

Optional brown bin for garden waste but our garden is too big so we have our own compost & bonfire

In-laws
Green bin - rubbish
Grey bin - recycling
Brown bin - garden

It's so confusing

GruciusMalfoy · 19/03/2019 22:03

Green = glass, plastic and cans
Black = general waste
Blue = paper and cardboard
Brown = food and garden waste.

All done on a rotating timetable that I still can't get my head around.

Accountant222 · 19/03/2019 22:04

Our green bin is general waste, we moved a year ago, at the other house green was garden waste

exLtEveDallas · 19/03/2019 22:05

Green=Mixed recycling including glass
Brown=garden waste
Black=general waste

We don't have food waste/composting

Cryalot2 · 19/03/2019 22:08

Just, black blue and brown here. We had the brown one stolen years ago.

cardibach · 19/03/2019 22:09

How do you all have space for so many bins?!
Round here if you have a wheelie at all it’s because you bought it yourself and it will have your general waste in it. There is a collection of recycling in clear bags you get from the council and which some people put into the top of their wheelie bin (if they have one) to stop foxes getting in them. We have a small green food waste caddy. Garden waste you have to take to the tip yourself.

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 19/03/2019 22:09

All our wheelie bins are green. They have different coloured lids though.

Black lid - general waste
Red lid - recycling
Brown lid - garden waste

So if someone said green bin to me I wouldn't know unless they said lid colour.

And it's different from the town 8 miles away I grew up in. They are green lids for general waste and blue lids for recycling, I think!

I'd always ask before putting rubbish in anyone else's bin as I never know which could be which.

MrBrown · 19/03/2019 22:09

Our green bin is for garden waste, seems that's the minority from looking at other responses.
The others are Brown for recycling and black for general waste. Then black box for clear glass and green box for coloured glass.

booksandcaffeine · 19/03/2019 22:10

We don't have a green bin. Only black, blue and brown. I'd assume the green bin is for garden waste.

PercyGherkin · 19/03/2019 22:10

Green is landfill, green with a blue lid is recycling. Brown is garden waste. This area has a proud tradition of baffling logic fails (our MP is Dominic Raab, for goodness’ sake).

booksandcaffeine · 19/03/2019 22:13

Black - general waste
Blue - recycling
Brown - garden waste

Bugsymalonemumof2 · 19/03/2019 22:14

We don't even have a green bin..blue and black only

Gronky · 19/03/2019 22:15

@Gronky does your local authority begin with a B? grin

Close, W, formerly G (and before that O).
