To think Everyone knows what a Green Wheely Bin is for, even builders from a different town?!

Everyone knows what the green bin is for, right?!
Four bins, all different colours. OH says that it's not obvious if you're from a different town, I know that the colours vary but surely green is the same everywhere?!

We're having work done and today I found a load of broken glass in our green bin.
AIBU to think they've just been completely lazy and thoughtless and that it's not on at all? OH doesn't seem at all bothered and just made excuses for them.
I doubt he will be sorting through a mixture of rotting food and broken glass...

God knows why all the councils can not agree on the same colour for each type of rubbish !

Black = general waste
Green = garden / food waste
blue = paper /card
brown = glass / plastic / tin .

Handay · 19/03/2019 22:25

I've never had a wheelie bin.

Amanduh · 19/03/2019 22:25

Our green is general waste. Blue for recycling. Brown for garden.
Where we last lived it was black for general, green for recycling and blue for garden!

TildaKauskumholm · 19/03/2019 22:26

I would expect everyone to know that different areas have different bins! Why assume everyone has 4 or that they have the same purpose? They should have asked though.

Amanduh · 19/03/2019 22:27

(And you only get general and recycling, you pay for the garden bin and service)

pisspawpatrol · 19/03/2019 22:27

Green- general waste
Blue- recycling
Brown- garden waste.

Maybe I live in the same place as Amanduh!

burritofan · 19/03/2019 22:28

How do you all have space for so many bins?!
Brighton. We don't. Every street is basically an obstacle course of wheelie bins, crates, and bastard seagulls ripping open the spillage. V charming and picturesque

MitziK · 19/03/2019 22:28

Black for general, black but slightly larger for recycling, black with a blue trim round the lid for paper and card, black but smaller for food, brown for garden. Except when it's black with a brown edge. Or blue and green with black lids where you live in a flat. Or orange bags if you live in a different type of flat. Or normal bin bags if they still haven't got round to delivering the latest style of bins.

onthenaughtystepagain · 19/03/2019 22:32

Never encountered two councils exactly alike on the colour and use of bins!

safariboot · 19/03/2019 22:32

Though with four bins it must fairly obvious that they're for different purposes

Indeed. I think the builders just don't give a shit.

Notageek · 19/03/2019 22:33

Green with Green lid is non recycleables, Green with Blue lid is recycleables, Brown is Garden waste...

Seniorcitizen1 · 19/03/2019 22:40

Ours is for glass plastics and tins

TheFormidableMrsC · 19/03/2019 22:40

We have a BRIGHT PURPLE bin for general waste (according to the council, this would blend in nicely with the surroundings. It doesn't). Brown bin for green/garden waste, grey bin for recycling. Separate blue box for paper. What I hate most is the sea of bins. I do, however, realise the importance of recycling and that is the payoff.

Chickychoccyegg · 19/03/2019 22:45

our green bin is for plastic and cans, so definitely different all over the place

HariboLecter · 19/03/2019 22:49

Green/ Dark Grey - general waste
Red - plastics, glass & cardboard
Brown - garden waste

notacooldad · 19/03/2019 22:49

Green bin?
Grey for recycling
Burgundy for general waste
Brown for garden stuff

HariboLecter · 19/03/2019 22:50

I'm not sure why there's 2 different colours for general waste though.

goldengummybear · 19/03/2019 22:52

Here green is garden and food waste.

Where I used to live Brown was for garden and food waste.

BejamNostalgia · 19/03/2019 22:54

Black = waste
Blue = tins and glass
Brown = paper

No green bins at all

Spiritinabody · 19/03/2019 23:01

Grey bin for general waste.
Grey bin with blue lid for recyclables.
Brown bin for garden waste (except soil).

animaginativeusername · 19/03/2019 23:01

Our green bin is for garbage, grey is recycling (used to be grey with blue lid and grey with grey lid were for one of paper recycling and other for metal/glass recycling), brown is garden waste

kateandme · 19/03/2019 23:02
