Hello all, I’ve been trying to lose weight and I was talking to my friends who are about size 12-14 and they weigh between 10 stone and 12 stone and they were shocked when I told them I was over 16 stone. I am 5”6 and wear 36C/38C bra and size 16 in top and bottoms. Is this normal and is there anyone else like this?

OP posts:

5ft4, 11 stone, size 10, 34B. Classed as obese
You're not obese, about half a stone above healthy but 1.5 stone below obese.

alltoomuchrightnow · 18/03/2019 19:50

I've been this weight and dress size together, I'm 5ft 9
I have huge boobs, long legs, short body

CoachBombay · 18/03/2019 20:05

Fear not OP I'm 5'3" and 12 and a half stone am a size 12-14.

I wear a 36E bra, have a 29inch waist and a 39 inch hip. I'm a full hour glass shape.

EffOffStomachPain · 18/03/2019 20:08

Everyone is different. I’m 5ft 5, around 15 st 7lb and size 16-18

Idonotlikeyoudonaldtrump · 18/03/2019 20:13

I’m a size 16 at that weight. Couple of inches taller. At 10st I’m a size 8.

Not pouring myself into those sizes either.

ANiceLuxury · 18/03/2019 20:20

I’m 5 ft 8 size 18 and weigh almost 16 stone. 38FF

Barrenfieldoffucks · 18/03/2019 20:21

I'm surprised. I'm taller than you at 5'8" and a size 16 at around 15 stone.

thecatneuterer · 18/03/2019 20:27

@thecatsthecats I don't think I'll have the same waist size at that weight again because I've done more muscle work in that area since.

What's this now? I've just started weight training (since just before Christmas). Are you telling me that all my clothes are going to be too tight on the waist soon? That would be a bummer.

thecatneuterer · 18/03/2019 20:28

Or are you saying you waist will be smaller? Perhaps I misread.

HostessTrolley · 18/03/2019 20:43

I’m 5’4”, 16st 9lb (106kg) and wear size 18, bra size 38DD is comfy - BOB tells me I’m a 36F/G but they hurt round the side of my rib cage and the cups are floppy!

Sunflower1989 · 18/03/2019 21:21

It's interesting to see the various sizes, weights and experiences of everyone. I'm 5"2, have always struggled with my weight. Currently 14st 13lb and a size 16. Nice to see everyone carries their weight differently and not to make assumptions.

GinisLife · 18/03/2019 21:29

I'm 5'7" and I've been a size 16 for at least 20 years. In the last 10 years I piled on the best part of 4 stone but refused to buy clothes any bigger so I ended up with wardrobes full of clothes I couldn't wear and wore the same few big size 16s. I've now lost the 4 stone and I'm back to 11 stone 3 this morning - and guess what..........I'm still a size 16 !!!! (I do now have loads of clothes that fit though). How does that work ??

BlimeyCalmDown · 18/03/2019 21:52

OP maybe you are more muscular/ thicker arms and legs?

People saying being big boned is not a thing, of course we get people who are of a small, medium and large build, that's not referring to fat it's referring to your frame/build.

youarenotkiddingme · 18/03/2019 21:58

5"7 13st 4 36DD. Size 14-16.

HowDoYouMilkANut · 18/03/2019 22:06

5ft 4, was just over 14st and a size 16. Now down to 12.5st, size 12 jeans and 14tops generally.

It's so interesting to hear how different everyone's body shapes and sizes are!

VelvetSpoon · 18/03/2019 22:13

I'm just under 13st. I think of myself as a sz 14 but I have clothes in my wardrobe of all sizes from 10-18 that I'm currently wearing. There's not even necessarily a correlation witihin shops..for example I have a Monsoon top (size 18) and skirt (14), size 10 jumper and size 14 trousers from M&S, and from Primark size 14 jeggings which are a bit big, size 18 dress which is snug, size 12 top which is loose, size 14 skinny jeans that I can get on but have a definite muffin top...and so it goes on.

I never buy anything without trying it on first as I can only ever be 50/50 that a particular size will fit!

I've lost 5st since August; at my biggest I was still only a 20-22. People now assume I'm about 11st if they dont know my weight.

aspoonfulofyourownmedicine · 18/03/2019 22:25

I'm 5'3", 15st and size 16/38F

JustBeingJobless · 18/03/2019 22:54

I’m 5’7”, currently 19st (thanks bad back and medication!), bra size 36J and a size 18-20 in most clothes from most shops, although I have a pair of size 18 jeans from next which are massive, and a pair of size 22 trousers from Bon Prix which I can’t fasten! I’ve always been pretty “dense” though; my smallest clothes size was a size 12 and at that I was 13st so technically very overweight!

Studentnurse1981 · 18/03/2019 23:05

In 5ft 7 and weigh 9stone 10lb

OhDiddums · 18/03/2019 23:14

I'm 5"3 around 11 stone and a size 12. Was a size 16 at 14 stone. Just need to lose the last 2 now.

Graphista · 18/03/2019 23:49

Dress size is largely meaningless, because it varies greatly across different shops and even within the same shops depending on what items and styles AND people will wear smaller sizes than they should and if they're wearing older clothes depending on fabric and care they could easily have stretched.

The only figures that really have any meaning are height, weight and bmi (and yes there are rare examples of bmi being inaccurate but for most people it IS a fairly accurate way of assessing if they're a healthy weight)

I'm 5'2" and 12 stone so I'm obese myself. I've lost having previously been close to 14 stone. I'm trying to continue losing but with other health issues and medication it's not easy.

I've known people proudly claim they're a size X when frankly looking at them those clothes are far too tight and unflattering on them, they're kidding themselves! While also making themselves look worse than necessary.

Personally I think women of all shapes and sizes can and do look fabulous IF they wear flattering clothes in the right sizes and proportions for them (which admittedly it's not always easy to get! Especially if you're a shorty like me! Trousers in particular are a nightmare)

The health ramifications are a separate issue.

PregnantSea · 19/03/2019 02:03

I'm way heavier than I look! I'm 5"8 and size 12, 32G bra size and I weigh 13.5 stone. No one ever believes me. In fact I've had people seriously accuse me of lying lol.

Goldenphoenix · 19/03/2019 14:13

This is an interesting thread! Shows how different we all are. I'm 5'7" and about 12.6 stone, I'm a size 16

Zoflorabore · 19/03/2019 14:20

I'm 5ft 5, 17.5 st and a size 18/20 depending on the shop. Bra size 38E.

I remember my doctor being shocked when he weighed me as although I'm obviously big I carry my weight well apparently.
Lots of shops have vanity sizing I've found.

ittakes2 · 19/03/2019 15:22
