Or was this bloke in the cafe totally over reacting

I'm in a very dog friendly cafe with my well behaved dog. Who is on a lead and has spent 99% of the time under the table. She ventured out from under the table and sat between our table and the next table sniffing the floor.

Bloke at the next table jumped up, got right in my face and told me in a very aggressive manner to stop my dog sniffing round his table. I don't think she was but said sorry and pulled her under my table. He carried on and said it was the second time (it wasn't, though we had to walk past them at one point so he may have meant that).

He carried on ranting at which point I told him there was no need to be so aggressive and that he could have mentioned it in a far nicer manner. Which shut him up.

Photo so you can see the space dog had ventured into. Dog wasn't touching the woman's purple coat. Small spaniel who was sat in the middle of that space.

Was he with his wife/girlfriend? I'd be livid, not to mention extremely embarrassed, if my DH thought he could speak to someone in such an aggressive way, he obviously has something to prove (tiny dick).

Mrskeats · 19/03/2019 00:03

Your dog is v cute op. I love it when dogs sit by me. He sounds an aggressive weirdo.

Kisskiss · 19/03/2019 00:08

Your dog is so cute!!!! I would love to have her sit next to me in a cafe 😁😁

user1471439310 · 19/03/2019 00:13

Your baby is adorable and he is a moron. Don't go to a cafe that allows dogs

humpydumpybumpy · 19/03/2019 00:15

Your dog is adorable! The cranky guy is a jerk. Why be in a dog cafe if you don't like dogs?! He's prob the kind of guy that would hang out at Soft Play and complain about kids being near him.

Cake for you and your pupSmile

ShastaBeast · 19/03/2019 00:29

What did his wife do? It’s all a bit weird. I don’t mind dogs and would happily have a cuddle if it’s a nice one, my eldest love them but youngest is terrified so no dog cafes for us :(

BlackCatSleeping · 19/03/2019 00:40

Your dog is just adorable!!

Yeah, bloke was a twat. Just be glad you aren't married to him and don't let him ruin your day.

It's easy to think "I should have..." after something like this happens, but if it happens again, I'm sure you'll feel more confident in dealing with it, i.e., telling him to fuck off.

FinnegansWhiskers · 19/03/2019 00:55

Why would someone who clearly dislikes dogs enter a dog friendly cafe? Some people are seriously unhinged. For every dog friendly cafe there will be 5 cafes that don't accept dogs.

Dog haters go to the cafes where dogs are not allowed and allow dog owners to have a quiet coffee and full English, in peace. (And take your noisy, messy, disruptive, marauding kids with you). Thanks 👌

FlagranceDirect · 19/03/2019 01:36

Because that dog would no way have stood for what happened and though he was a tiny 4kg rat the bloke would have had puncture wounds for sure

I don't think that's anything to be proud of. You'd have been the one in trouble.

fieldfaresareback · 19/03/2019 06:35

Clearly Yanbu and the man was a total knob. She’s so lovely I’d have been delighted if she came sniffing and probably let her get on my knee and eat off my plate in exchange for a cuddle!

NicoAndTheNiners · 19/03/2019 08:03

The wife just sat there with her back to us and never turned round. No idea if she was embarrassed or had been egging him on.

She is totally gorgeous op and he was an obnoxious knob head who given it was a dog friendly cafe should have buggered off elsewhere. I have two rather large dogs who love people that would have given him real cause for complaining.

alphasox · 19/03/2019 08:33

In his defence (slightly), I have a dog phobia and I can’t stand it when people a. Bring them into a cafe and b. Let them wonder around and then c. Say “oh he wouldn’t hurt a fly” as so many dog owners do. Maybe, it’s true but I can’t help my phobia, I get panicky and sweaty and feel sick. So maybe he felt the same and that’s why he overreacted (I’m english so I would have just had to leave or move without complaining lol).

However, I wouldn’t have gone in a dog friendly cafe for those reasons. Maybe we didn’t realise it was dog friendly?

theresafoxunderthedecking · 19/03/2019 08:49

he would do better to moan at so called parents ignoring their feral kids running around screaming than worry about a small dog in a dog friendly cafe, oh, sorry perhap she might not be man enough in case the young ferals told him to fuck off.
op you were seen as an easy target. good for you standing up to him Smile

theresafoxunderthedecking · 19/03/2019 08:49

*he might not be man enough

I've just come here to say he was being silly (maybe he's scared of dogs and felt embarrassed?) and your pooch is so cute! Love her coat too 💕

DarlingNikita · 19/03/2019 09:26

alphasox, perhaps you haven't understood, but the OP's dog wasn't 'wandering around'.

NicoAndTheNiners · 19/03/2019 14:18

We've been to a different cafe today where everyone fussed her and fed her biscuits. Also bought her a gortex suit so she's feeling extra stylish. The other one is only shower proof.

Some people are grumpy buggers. Ignore them and enjoy your little dog.

Ravenesque · 19/03/2019 17:45

If I'd been where they were you'd have been having to fight me off for a cooch with your lovely dog. I'm a dog botherer and she is gorgeous. Idiot man is an idiot.

SirGawain · 19/03/2019 17:51

Not everyone likes dogs in cafes.
Quite true, I don't, but if he is aware that it is dog friendly he has a choice to go elsewhere. I do go to a particular cafe which allows dogs but I am not likely to complain as I know it is their policy.

Um.... do you mean a cwtch? Grin

A cooch is something different entirely, and probably not something you should be offering to dogs.

Olinguito · 19/03/2019 18:17

I think we need a photo of the new gortex suit so we can judge how stylish it is.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/03/2019 18:20

Other matters aside, I don't know why some people seem to think that cute-looking little dogs are going to be cuter-behaved than big ones.

Friends of ours had a very cute looking, fluffy little white Westie - and two big black flatcoat retrievers.
Guess which was the one they really could not trust with strangers?

Whereas the two flatties were great big softies.
