Or was this bloke in the cafe totally over reacting

I'm in a very dog friendly cafe with my well behaved dog. Who is on a lead and has spent 99% of the time under the table. She ventured out from under the table and sat between our table and the next table sniffing the floor.

Bloke at the next table jumped up, got right in my face and told me in a very aggressive manner to stop my dog sniffing round his table. I don't think she was but said sorry and pulled her under my table. He carried on and said it was the second time (it wasn't, though we had to walk past them at one point so he may have meant that).

He carried on ranting at which point I told him there was no need to be so aggressive and that he could have mentioned it in a far nicer manner. Which shut him up.

Photo so you can see the space dog had ventured into. Dog wasn't touching the woman's purple coat. Small spaniel who was sat in the middle of that space.

Was your dog worrying his lamb chops?

Vivianebrezilletbrooks · 20/03/2019 01:03

I think he shouldn't have been there if it was a dog friendly cafe and obvious it was, unlike somewhere like Caffe Nero where's it's not obvious.
Yes he did overreact.
I deliberately avoid dog friendly places as I don't like them for the most part so I'll avoid cafes tailored to them unless it's not made obvious then I'll keep away from them or leave asap.
I hate this whole 'If you don't like dogs you're evil/bad/something wrong with you' dog owners/lovers come out with.
But it's perfectly acceptable to hate cats. Hmm,double standard there. Hmm

There is nothing that so separates two kinds of humanity like the issue of dogs. Dog owners are proselytisers, a bit like vegans, and the rest of humanity has to put up with their unbounded affection for their pets. Many make no bones about liking their canine friends more than other human beings.

That said, if the cafe owner promoted the place as dog friendly it should have been a warning to the OP’s rude man not to venture inside.

woollyheart · 20/03/2019 08:51

@Teacher22 Nearly right! 😀 But it is the dogs that do the proselytising.

We are rendered incapable of critical thought, and in thrall to our superior adorable dog 'owners'.

I'm suffering - please save me. I used to be a cat lady. My dogs have a 'no cats' rule and I must obey.

DarlingNikita · 20/03/2019 10:06

Stroppy, the dog wasn't sniffing at him or badly behaved. It didn't approach him either.

ralfeesmum · 20/03/2019 11:07

Lovely dog!

I bet if you had been a man and the dog had been something along the lines of a German Shepherd then Mister Mouthy wouldn't have said a darned word.

What a wally!

SlightlyPsychotic · 20/03/2019 11:45

Same here! absolutely love them. got a tattoo of their lyrics on my arm as well 😁 (finally got to see them live in manchester a couple of weeks ago) Yay!!

I’m glad today is a better day for you both. I love the little coat 😁

JemSynergy · 20/03/2019 15:45

Hmm personally I don't like dogs round me when I am eating or drinking. However, the man sounded like he went OTT and was far too aggressive. If anyone speaks to me in such a tone they are usually told to f off! Your dog is super cute by the way! :)

Worried2019 · 20/03/2019 19:07

My Mum always said never to trust anyone who isn't an animal lover! Strange people!

Nearly47 · 20/03/2019 20:03

He is probably scared of dogs. But you are not being unreasonable. He should find another coffee shop. Your dog is cuteSmile
