Or was this bloke in the cafe totally over reacting

I'm in a very dog friendly cafe with my well behaved dog. Who is on a lead and has spent 99% of the time under the table. She ventured out from under the table and sat between our table and the next table sniffing the floor.

Bloke at the next table jumped up, got right in my face and told me in a very aggressive manner to stop my dog sniffing round his table. I don't think she was but said sorry and pulled her under my table. He carried on and said it was the second time (it wasn't, though we had to walk past them at one point so he may have meant that).

He carried on ranting at which point I told him there was no need to be so aggressive and that he could have mentioned it in a far nicer manner. Which shut him up.

Photo so you can see the space dog had ventured into. Dog wasn't touching the woman's purple coat. Small spaniel who was sat in the middle of that space.

Cute dog. I'm guessing you're on your own OP. These arseholes seem to be agressive only to woman on their own. Bet if you had a bloke with you he wouldn't have said a word.

Still18atheart · 18/03/2019 13:00

Yanbu my dog quite often is in that position in a cafe and never had any problems think she just prefers it to being wedged under a table

blighter · 18/03/2019 13:01

To be fair he's bloody gorgeous (the dog not the geezer). I'd have liked sitting near by him and I don't particularly like dogs

Happynow001 · 18/03/2019 13:01

Your dog looks lovely - fab coat! Ignore Mr Knobhead - who is obviously having such a bad bad day he's forgotten his manners after he's wondered into a dog friendly area "by mistake". Woof!

LakieLady · 18/03/2019 13:06

I was once in a pub which actually had a sign outside saying it was the New Forest's most dog-friendly pub.

Wasn't the Turf Cutters at East Boldre was it? That's so dog-friendly the landlord brought a couple of old towels out for wet dogs one rainy day. And horses are allowed in the pub garden.

MrsEricBana · 18/03/2019 13:06

He was very rude indeed - it was a dog friendly cafe and your dog was totally under control (And VERY cute).

IncrediblySadToo · 18/03/2019 13:07

Poor bloke. I feel sorry for him.

Imagine not be able to understand that a Dog Friendly Cafe might have dogs in it. Bless.

🙄

I’d have just said ‘Calm down, she’s got as much right to be here as you do’ then ignored him. Any more fuss and I’d have told him to speak to the manager, not me.

Bloke is an idiot.

Birdsgottafly · 18/03/2019 13:08

"These arseholes seem to be agressive only to woman on their own."

Yep, some Men love the chance to have a go at a Woman, so will pick on anything.

I used to be out amd about with my GD. When she wagged her tail, there'd be hair flicked everywhere, but your dog's fur wouldn't do that.

He had nothing to complain.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 18/03/2019 13:11

Sounds like a jumped up little knobhead. Imagine embarrassing yourself like that.
Your dog is very cute OP.

Awww, she is gorgeous.
Loving the onesie.

CatG85 · 18/03/2019 13:15

YANBU. Sounds like an idiot.

I want to know where these dog friendly cafes are just so I can go see some cute doggies like your! Bless her

DarlingNikita · 18/03/2019 13:16

mindutopia, the dog wasn't 'bounding around', it was sitting sniffing the floor Hmm

He sounds like a twat with a small life and anger issues. I agree with Jane, if you were a man or with a man I bet he'd have found the dog much less upsetting.

LimitIsUp · 18/03/2019 13:16

dadshere I love your comment and may quote it liberally in future

Hwory · 18/03/2019 13:16

What a prick.

Imagine being mad at a dog being nearby in a dog friendly cafe.

He/she looks like such a cute little doggie too.

flumpybear · 18/03/2019 13:16

I'm not fussed about dogs myself but I can't imagine making a fuss like thst, particularly as it's a dog friendly place. He's in the wrong unless the dog is being aggressive or over- stepping in some meaningful way that you're not addressing

Ignore the twat

Wishimaywishimight · 18/03/2019 13:16

She's adorable, I would have been delighted if she came over to me so I could say 'hello'!

EmNetta · 18/03/2019 13:17

Jane's right - I've frequently been alone with my hounds, which seems an invitation to various men on their own - people who'd never dream of saying anything (good or bad) if my husband was with us.

Generally our dogs were very welcome, being small and friendly, but I'd a re-think after a waitress told me she always worried about them, being unable to see them when carrying a tray, and particularly with a lead stretched between tables - I doubt the cafe's insurance would pay out in case of accident.

Jenniferyellowcat · 18/03/2019 13:19

These arseholes seem to be agressive only to woman on their own.

I agree. OP, he was overreacting and unreasonable. Threatening and aggressive behaviour is never acceptable.

Just don’t say this on a parking thread Wink

ThatFalseEquivalenceTho · 18/03/2019 13:19

I’m not keen on dogs. I love the family dogs (I don’t have one myself though), but am wary of strange dogs.

However. I’m also a soft fucker and if one comes over for a fuss, I can’t resist.

notacooldad · 18/03/2019 13:21

100% this ⬆️

Babdoc · 18/03/2019 13:24

Personally I don’t think dogs should be in any commercial food serving area, and I’d certainly avoid any restaurant that let them in.
However, if your cafe clearly stated on the door that it allowed dogs, then the chap who complained should have gone elsewhere.
If there’s no warning, then I can quite understand him being annoyed to find an unwanted animal slobbering round his table and clothes.

PigletJohn · 18/03/2019 13:25

All dogs, like all children, are always perfectly behaved, as their owners will confirm. Therefore nobody has any right to ask not to be exposed to them.

However, that might not be true.

CordeliaEarhart · 18/03/2019 13:30

I'm in a very dog friendly cafe

Does it say that on the entrance? I like dogs and don't have any issue with them in cafes or pubs. However, I do think that the cafe/pub owners should specify on the entrance because otherwise people who are scared of dogs / have hygiene concerns may well have already paid for food before realising they have to share the space with animals.

That said, he was very unreasonable being aggressive and having a go at you. If he wanted to complain about animals in the cafe he should have spoken to the owners.
