I am SKELETOR!!

cinamogirl · 17/03/2019 22:50

I am not being dramatic! (I promise )
I am a first time Mum. My son is nearly 12 months old. He is amazing and I can not remember life without him! My son is happy and healthy, as am I.
My AIBU is... (I am prepared not to get much sympathy) but AIBU about not being able to keep any weight on? I LOOK LIKE SKELETOR! I was a comfortable 9 stone (slim yet curvy for my 5"2 height).
Since I have stopped expressing for my son (time in NICU) I just can't keep the weight on? I am down to 7 something stones (I don't want to admit how small I am) and I just feel... all bones?
I eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. I don't snack much (childhood values) and I don't drink alcohol. The pounds are falling off of me and I long for my womanly curves!
I need some advice? I look like a prepubescent teen Blush
It's difficult to talk about in RL because I understand I am in the minority with new Mums. I just want my boobs back!! Grin TIA x

Oh here we go. Spanking Duster? Really. Amazed how some people can be offended by anything!

Good luck for your appointment OP and get some food in you!

burritofan · 18/03/2019 10:38

Duster the OP has lost 2 stone quite rapidly and is worried about it, but made a lighthearted description of her own appearance – something lots of people do when they're actually quite concerned about their body image. She's getting good advice to go to the GP, and good advice on upping her calorie intake, which is severely limited. Nowhere is she insulting fat or skinny people; this is entirely your projection and a really strange repeated derailment of the thread.

OP, do see your GP and do eat more! I would faint clean away if I just had some leftover meat and mayonnaise for lunch, especially if breakfast was just toast. Think complex carbs and dairy. Turn that meat into a sandwich!

hilbil21 · 18/03/2019 10:38

@cinamogirl you're eating less than me and I'm actually on a diet! You need to up your calorie intake I would say.

Duster has issues methinks Hmm

cinamogirl · 18/03/2019 10:41

Skeletor as a chav - brilliant!
Thank you for the message of good luck pp. I will come back to this thread and let everyone who has helped know how I get on.
Slight (sorry don't know how to tag!) It's funny you say that, I am quite 'frantic' by nature, in a very happy way. I am always on the go and in a rush but as a new Mum I think that is part of the course? Thank you for your concerns x

And thank you for the support against Duster12. I hope to keep this thread in the positive/upbeat nature of which it was intended x

Duster12 · 18/03/2019 10:48

burritofan Ah ah ah no you don't. It's right here in her own words:

'is Skeletor really ripped? It's just a name me and my siblings used for bony people? I know he was in 'He-man' but I am sure he was all bones?x'

And yet if she'd gruffly insulted overweight people, there'd be outrage.

Waveysnail · 18/03/2019 10:51

I'd get a check up with gp just incase. Then concentrate on healthy fats - lashing olive oil, nuts, seeds - easy stuff to add to your meals

Tinty · 18/03/2019 10:52

Can I ask are you drinking a lot lately? As in water etc? As a few people I know that became Diabetics lost a lot of weight suddenly, whilst eating as they always had eaten. Mostly these people were children though, I don't know if this happens to adults so much.

You don't eat a lot and you have a baby now but I'm not sure if that equates to a 2 stone weight loss in a short period of time, if you are eating the same way you always have but are more active because of the baby. I would imagine you could lose half a stone in a short time, but 2 stone seems excessive.

I also went from 8 stone to 7 stone after my first ds and I looked quite skeletal, ribs, breast bones and hip bones stuck out. I am also 5' 2", but I was breastfeeding a very hungry baby who went from birth weight of 7lbs to 24lbs in 10 months and more than doubled in length. He was the size of a 2 year old at one.

justilou1 · 18/03/2019 10:57

Hi @cinamogirl - good to make apt with GP. Very smart. I suspect it is a combo of not enough carbs and not enough calories, but a simple blood test will rule out thyroid and other post-partum issues. Sounds as though you have the energy to run around after your little one though, and you don’t suspect that the problem is medical. If you are worried about the weightloss being caused by a medical problem, you would have other underlying problems as well, such as low energy, anxiety, difficulty sleeping (or difficulty staying awake) depression, etc... A lot of these symptoms are common after having a baby, and should not be minimized, but when combined with other, physical symptoms can be indicative of several medical problems as well. Have you noticed any changes to your skin tone, colour or texture? Or even changes to your hair (is it thinner/greasier/falling out in clumps, have you noticed unusual changes to your body hair?) These are the sorts of things that you need to tell your GP if you have noticed them as well as the weight loss.

CosmicVaginaBiscuit · 18/03/2019 11:01

OP I wouldn't like to try to survive on your current diet!
You can add fat without having to resort to eating 'junk food', plenty of tasty calorific food.
If you could add a few snacks, cheese on crackers, nuts, houmous, full fat yoghurt, but by all means indulge in whatever yoh like.
See what your GP says and take it from there, it sounds like not enough calories going in but they may want to check if you've always eaten like this or if appetite has decreased etc.

As for Duster, I agree with the sentiment of how people seem to 'get away with' commenting more on the weight of others who they consider 'skinny'.
I've been called a stick insect or 'skinny bitch' by people at work who I very much doubt would comment on the weight of someone a little bit overweight.
I hope you're not on the receiving end of such comments, as in one of your early posts you said 'we' aren't happy with the way you look right now.

cinamogirl · 18/03/2019 11:22

DUSTER12 - I came here to call myself bony/a bag of bones/skeletor because that's how I look right now! I have lost a lot of weight very quickly and I am very worried.
I have only insulted myself and a fictional 80s cartoon character?
Young people in the UK right now are killing themselves because they feel they can not ask for help. I have asked for help in a very polite/happy manner and all you have done is try to accuse me of insulting people? Please open up your eyes.

Hi OP.
Glad you are getting blood work done. It's always better to check it when there is an issue.

I have an underactive thyroid but when getting my meds right it went over and I felt generally agitated. Heart racing abit, everything felt a bit speeded up.

I hope you don't take offence at this, but you seem a bit unsure about food groups and calories in general. With a growing child, you might want to do a bit of research about this to be able to look after yourself and your child in the best possible way. I'm not suggesting that you aren't, by the way, just that you might feel more confident about meals, calories etc if you read up a bit more.

Schuyler · 18/03/2019 12:39

I don’t know why you’re getting such a hard time. Ok your joke was a little misjudged but it’s clear you meant no harm. Good luck at the doctor.

justilou1 · 18/03/2019 13:23

BTW - I am old enough to remember the He-Man cartoons and Skeleton and am surprised that you know who he even is!!!

Oakenbeach · 18/03/2019 13:46

Definitely go see your GP. I'm the same height as you and weigh a little under 6 stone but I don't look like skeletal at all.

That would mean you have a BMI of 15! That is severely underweight! You may not think you look skeletal but you almost certainly do.... I think you need to consider getting help.

dublinmammy1982 · 18/03/2019 15:15

OP after I had my first DC, I lost my baby weight immediately, and ended up a stone lighter than I'd been for years. I was eating lots, but for me I think the energy I was expending breastfeeding was zapping all the calories. As everyone else has said, get thee to your GP. It's probably nothing BUT this sort of thing should always be investigated.
And ignore @Duster12. Someone who has issues with a person calling themselves after a (still perfectly politically correct) 80's TV cartoon character, has issues themselves!

Member984815 · 18/03/2019 16:07

This happened me after I had my second child , I could not keep weight on at all and people kept commenting on it, I had bad morning sickness so I must have lost weight while pregnant from that but it just fell off me after as well. I'd visit the doctor just to make sure you don't have any underlying problem

LuckyLou7 · 19/03/2019 11:20

Skeletor is on an advert right now, isn't he? He's not a bag of bones, just has a skull face.

It just sounds to me like you're not eating enough. Add in a few more calories, snack between meals, and see your GP to rule out any underlying illness. Buy some dietary supplements like Ensure drinks.

Iseverynametaken · 19/03/2019 11:40

@Duster12 seriously stop. Your trying desperately to make something of nothing. Do you go at everyone who calls themselves 'fat' or 'chunky' if they are upset at being overweight? The OP is talking kf herself not of anyone else. Im in the same boat as OP struggle to gain weight at times and call myself bony/stick etc and Im not offended by her title.

FuckertyBoo · 19/03/2019 11:45

I was coming on to say I think you should go to your gp, but see you are already going to do that. Hope it’s all ok and nothing to worry about Flowers. I don’t think you’re wrong to be a little worried / bemused by the sudden drop in weight. I would be too, but it could very easily be something easily sorted by gp.

MissB83 · 19/03/2019 12:52

My friend had rapid weight loss after having a baby and it turned out to be a serious thyroid problem. Definitely worth checking out

MissB83 · 19/03/2019 12:53

However I do also think you can underestimate how many calories you need to chase after a toddler (I have a 13 month old, still BF him and I am CONSTANTLY hungry!)

newnamex1000 · 27/03/2019 22:12

OP HERE! Sorry have recently name changed.
I wanted to come back to this thread and say a massive thank you to those who advised me to see a GP. I had my bloods/urine done and it turns out my kidneys aren't functioning properly. I don't know too much yet but my urine has high levels of protein and my potassium and white blood cells are concerning from my bloods. I need to have follow up tests to find out what is happening but I have been told this explains the weight loss. So glad I went to the doctors! Thanks again everyone, and in the meantime I am still following the good advice I received from you with the diet Smile

ScruffGin · 27/03/2019 22:32

Glad you went to the doctor's, hopefully they will sort it out soon

aibutohavethisusername · 27/03/2019 22:51

Sorry to hear that your kidneys are playing up. Hope you get the right treatment soon Flowers
