AIBU to ask if your Halloween ravens are going grey?

I know from this classic thread that last year, a lot of you fell in love with the ravens:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/3402882-What-can-I-buy-from-Argos-for-4ish-to-win-a-bet

  • if you haven't read it, you have missed out. It's hilarious. I'm sure that for many people, the ravens were just for the moment, but I really, really love mine. My ravens are for life, and were not just for Halloween. But I'm now almost sure that my beautiful and beloved ravens are starting to go grey. Does anyone else still have ravens, and are anyone else's ravens starting to change colour?

For a moment I thought this was a thread about erstwhile old-time MNer @Ravens.

Whatever happened to @Ravens?

As you were...shuffles off like the old gimmer I am.

Yes, but have you looked at it recently? Is it changing colour????

Well it is almost spring. Maybe it's changing its plumage for the breeding season.

(Are your ravens near a window? The light might be bleaching them)

(Are your ravens near a window? The light might be bleaching them)

Good idea, but they are in a house that I live in for only one week a month. I love my ravens so much that I put them in a cupboard when I go away, to guard against light-fading. When they're out, they do live on a shelf that's opposite a window, but in total, they've only been on that shelf for five weeks since October ... is five weeks long enough to fade a raven? Also, they seem to be going grey by the same amount on both sides.

Are they flocked ravens? Could it be that they are losing some fluff from their plumage each time you cuddle them?

ThrowThoseCurtainsWide · 17/03/2019 23:28

Also thank you for reminding me of the Raven thread Grin

Persimmonn · 17/03/2019 23:31

I don’t know what you’re on about, but why would anyone have those in their house? They’re majorly creepy. (Unless you live in the Tower of London)

Time40 · 17/03/2019 23:32

Oh, that made me laugh. Of course I do ... but I have tried to be really, really, gentle!

Well, you would know what I was on about if you had read the original thread. I thought this thread would appeal to people who had seen that. But even if you haven't, I posted a photo so you would know exactly what I was "on about".

Mine haven't gone grey, but this happened. Shock Bloody kids playing with them and leaving them lying around.

Poor legless Balthazar. Sad I'll have to get the superglue out. One day.

My not so D P wouldn't let me have a raven miserable twat

What? He (he?) is indeed a miserable twat. But why did you let your DP decided whether or not you could have a raven?

My DP bought my second one for me. I call that true love - a man who hears you when you say you love your new raven, and goes out and gets another one.

I'm going to bed now, but please do keep me updated with all your raven news, and I'll be back tomorrow.

I have a raven but it lives under a bell jar and only comes out at Halloween in this house (I used to have my own craft room in our last house and he was out permanently ) DH hates him so won't let him come out year round.
Maybe you need fabric paint?

Time40 · 18/03/2019 10:15

I imagine that looks good. I'm envious. I may have to get a pair of bell jars for mine.

Maybe you need fabric paint?

Yes, maybe, in the end. The fading - if it is that - isn't a huge problem yet. It's just that there are a few more grey areas that I seem to remember. The ravens are still extremely black; just not quite as black as they used to be (I think).

HerRoyalFattyness mine wouldn't either. He's
also a raven twat. I might have ordered several wooden ones for the Christmas tree and hung one behind his seat at the table for Christmas revenge raven style though Grin

youngfreeandnotsingle · 18/03/2019 12:12

I missed out on getting myself a raven but it was only last week I as wondering how all the ravens were getting on!

ThrowThoseCurtainsWide · 18/03/2019 17:16

I really want a Raven now! Wonder if there are any on eBay yet...

In other news I woke the DCs up laughing again at Beyoncé the metal chicken

Goldenhedgehogs · 18/03/2019 17:29

Me too! Sadly not stacked anymore. I am hunting eBay now

Moofins · 18/03/2019 17:35

My DD recently found a raven in a charity shop with a glittery tummy! It’s now pride of place in her newly decorated bedroom! I wonder if this one was a MN one!!!

Time40 · 18/03/2019 17:39

I've just checked Ebay. It's heaving with Halloween ravens ... which is a bit strange, seeing as it's March. They all seem to be ones with feathers, though, not flock ones like mine. Also for sale on Ebay is a 5ft "aged cemetery tombstone" with LED lights, sound, and a raven. It's very ugly, so I'm not tempted.

I really want to see a photo of Beyonce the metal chicken. Is she a Clangers-style metal chicken, Curtains?
