AIBU to ask if your Halloween ravens are going grey?

I know from this classic thread that last year, a lot of you fell in love with the ravens:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/3402882-What-can-I-buy-from-Argos-for-4ish-to-win-a-bet

  • if you haven't read it, you have missed out. It's hilarious. I'm sure that for many people, the ravens were just for the moment, but I really, really love mine. My ravens are for life, and were not just for Halloween. But I'm now almost sure that my beautiful and beloved ravens are starting to go grey. Does anyone else still have ravens, and are anyone else's ravens starting to change colour?

Mine has gone a bit grey but the cats love it and although he's still in tact, I suspect he's coated in protective anti cat dust...or something.

Time40 · 18/03/2019 20:00

Curtains, thank you for introducing me to your fabulous blog. Now I not only know the full wonderful story of the metal chicken, but I know about falcon sex hats, too. I'm amazed that Beyonce the chicken has her own Facebook page, and is being followed by 76,000 people.

Sure it's not just dust?

Totally sure, thank you Elizabeth. Good thought, though.

Ours is a Raven for all seasons now since DS2 declared he loved it. Got him a wee Santa hat for Christmas, and I’m now working on sorting either an Easter bonnet or some bunny ears for him.

ipswichwitch · 18/03/2019 20:08

Here he is in his Santa hatted glory!

I clicked because I assumed this was some sort of mumsnet lingo for pubic
‘Halloween Ravens’. Hehe

ThatssomebadhatHarry · 18/03/2019 21:08

Pubic hair

Time40 · 18/03/2019 22:46

Awww, he looks lovely in his Santa hat, Ipswichwitch. I hope you find him some nice bunny ears for Easter.

I'm on the look-out for miniature crowns for mine. For some reason, I think they would look good with crowns.

Just had a quick change back to my Halloween name.
My raven (£4 bet one, that he still won’t admit I won) hasn’t gone grey as far as I can tell.
She is currently away with dh for work.

I may or may not have lost her at one point and had to go to the hire car company to beg for her return.

Time40 · 19/03/2019 11:37

Wow, Shocks. Your DH takes your raven on work trips? Is she of any help to him in his work, or does he just love her too much to be parted? Or is it just that she lives in the car? (And yes, he really ought to admit that you won the bet.)

Shocksandboooos · 19/03/2019 13:12

He doesn’t always know that she’s there.

Asta19 · 19/03/2019 13:25

My Raven is still fine. He sits in the fireplace. He had tinsel around his neck for Christmas. I think I need to make him an Easter bonnet next Grin That was such a fun thread, the Argos Q&A was hilarious.

Time40 · 19/03/2019 13:48

Ah, I see. That's a tiny touch evil of you, Shocks. In a good way, of course.

The Argos Q&A was brilliant. They really entered into the spirit of the thing.

Mine is still black. Does yours need dusting op?

Time40 · 19/03/2019 20:22

Mine is still black. Does yours need dusting op?

A pp asked me that. No, Eliza - I love them far too much to let them get dusty, and I put them in a cupboard when I'm away from that house (I live in three different places). They haven't gone actually grey. They still look very black; it's just that I could swear that there are more small areas of grey than there used to be. I've got a suspicion that the manufacturer responsible for making them never supposed that anyone would want to keep them for years and years, and has made them with some materials that are starting to self-destruct. Someone up-thread said hers were also going a bit grey.

Crikey, just seen this and now panicking in case Beverley is off colour and I've simply failed to notice. Right, hang on, rushing downstairs to check....

TriciaMcMillan · 19/03/2019 20:52

Phew! She's ok, but has acquired a handbag?

I missed the original thread but now I desperately want a raven. They're precious, especially the one in the wee Santa hat!

OwlinaTree · 19/03/2019 22:38

Branwen lives on the window sill and isn't fading yet!

Time40 · 20/03/2019 03:51

Beverley and Branwen are lovely. I wonder how Beverley managed to get hold of a handbag? I think these ravens probably have magical powers. I couldn't decide on names for mine, so I call them The First Raven and The Second Raven - I think that sounds suitably magical.

I'm so pleased there is a community of raven-lovers out there. I wonder how many of us there are?

Maybe they will flock back to the shops at Halloween, Peach. I hope so - I can't bear to think of anyone suffering for want of a raven.

@Time40 Beverley is very much a raven about town, so may well have picked up her handbag during one of her city jaunts. Honestly, sometimes I just can't keep up with her.🤔

Eliza9917 · 20/03/2019 08:58

Mines called the mumsnet raven.

Eliza9917 · 20/03/2019 08:59

So inventive lol.

ThrowThoseCurtainsWide · 27/03/2019 23:32

Inspired by this thread reminding my of Beyonce the metal chicken... I've just bought these bad boys for my mum and grandma for Mother's Day!

I loved the original thread and really wanted a raven but mumsnetters in my area beat me to it and wiped my Argos out Hmm

I missed the q&a though, does anyone have a link?

Eliza9917 · 28/03/2019 08:51

@Bufferingkisses

When you go to the original thread it says page not found so no link to the argos page.

They had ravens on ebay.
