Is this my fault??

So a few days ago this happened and yes i am still worried..

First of all i am the coloured in car.

The other car involved lived where the cross is.

As i went to reverse from the side of the house (sort of parking bays) i looked and double looked nothing was there so i reversed carefully. I moved no more than a few inches at less than 5MPH as i looked infront to check nothing was obstructing i heard a bang and there was a car behind diagonal. Both cars were damaged but nothing that couldnt be replaced.

Que the other car driver getting out who then shouted and screamed i hit there expensive car and they will go through my insurance. I felt threatened by this man and told him i would sort it as I initially thought i hit a parked car.

It has then came to light that the other car reversed quickly from their drive and a few feet down the road to get behind me. After the initial shock and getting my self worked up it now seems more like the car indeed hit me at a speed.

Will this go 50/50 with insurance as it is knock for knock, or is this indeed my fault? AIBU to think this wasn't fully down to me.

I appreciate it is down to insurance to decide but any similar stories or advice would be good.

From past experience I would say insurance would probably go 50/50. However I'm not an expert so please don't take my word for it!!

In the circumstances you explain I would be livid that another drivers careless and reckless driving had caused a bump. And for them to come and shout at you is just so wrong!!

I looked both behind and in front, my reversing camera also picked her coming around at speed. She was there one minute the next she wasn't.

CCTV shows me barley move. I am worried i have accepted liability from shock.

Not possible for her to appear from nowhere. You should be looking in the direction of travel.

You need to reverse into the space rather than out.

Just because you accepted liability at the time of the accident, doesn't mean you can't change your mind. Tell your insurers it was the other drivers fault and provide the CCTV, let them fight the case for you.

Ok well if you have cctv then that's a good thing!! Usually where there is a collision like that with no evidence other than the usual he said/she said it would be 50/50. Does your insurance company know you have footage?

I think I'm with familysecret. Give the evidence you have to your insurance company to sort out.

They have the CCTV.

The other party involved told the insurer it was a parked car. They also had a telematics box fitted showing they were doing 27MPH around the corner.

You can’t be more than 50% liable in this instance.

It sounds like it's 100% their fault. Tell your insurance company what happened and they'll deal with this idiot - who the hell drives so bloody fast round the corner?

If their CCTV and their telematics box ( I'm not sure what that is exactly!) shows that they were doing 27mph & they went into you, why are they blaming you?

@shatteredandstressed telematics box is something that records peoples speeds and driving and tells their insurance how they drive (i think) from my knowledge young people use them to bring their insurance down.

They blamed me as technically i was moving back at about 3MPH which they said i hit them.

My DH said that I should report that to the police. I wasn't sure if it was waisting time or not

Keep them, make copies and let the insurers know and also inform the police. If they are recorded at doing 27 mph and are now sending letters to intimidate you I would say they are guilty but trying to make you take the blame, something your insurers would not be happy about.

No i haven't reported it as i didn't know if it was time wasting and just petty things that would blow over.
