Is this my fault??

So a few days ago this happened and yes i am still worried..

First of all i am the coloured in car.

The other car involved lived where the cross is.

As i went to reverse from the side of the house (sort of parking bays) i looked and double looked nothing was there so i reversed carefully. I moved no more than a few inches at less than 5MPH as i looked infront to check nothing was obstructing i heard a bang and there was a car behind diagonal. Both cars were damaged but nothing that couldnt be replaced.

Que the other car driver getting out who then shouted and screamed i hit there expensive car and they will go through my insurance. I felt threatened by this man and told him i would sort it as I initially thought i hit a parked car.

It has then came to light that the other car reversed quickly from their drive and a few feet down the road to get behind me. After the initial shock and getting my self worked up it now seems more like the car indeed hit me at a speed.

Will this go 50/50 with insurance as it is knock for knock, or is this indeed my fault? AIBU to think this wasn't fully down to me.

I appreciate it is down to insurance to decide but any similar stories or advice would be good.

Id suggest turning the photo on its side.

Is this my fault??

Something very very similar happened to me the other day. Insurance is proceeding on a 50:50 fault basis, even though I told them I thought that it might well be my fault. The other person clearly thought it was my fault, but then I only have her word for it that I ran into her (as I, er, wasn't looking properly Blush ), and she was reversing too. Anyway it wasn't my call, the insurance clearly have established procedures for when two cars back into each other!

Reversing around a corner at 27 mph? Thank heavens no pedestrian got squashed...

chickenchickenchick · 18/03/2019 02:12

@HandbagCrazy

Thankyou.

Im going to forget about it it's making me sick with worry with the threats etc.

Just to clarify i was going off information that the insurer gAve me from the other party's telematics box.

How correct they are i do not know🤷🏼‍♀️

It is a well known fact here that the party is always driving reckless around the street.

I am more than happy to go 50/50 but judging by cctv they go into me.

@frogsoup how long did yours take to sort?

Glad you have CCTV to sort this. I don't think I would want to come into contact with this person without it.

YeahNah1980 · 18/03/2019 05:05

I’d say 50/50 at fault.

Ruru8thestars · 18/03/2019 05:11

Why are you forgetting the letters? Report them to the police.

barbiegrl · 18/03/2019 05:20

First of al take a deep breath! Do call the police and tell them about the threatening letters but as for the insurance, just believe that they will sort it out. I know that the shock and the worry is eating you up-I had a bump two weeks ago. In my case it was totally my fault,I admitted it, and the guy was very calm thankfully. But we recently switched insurers and I had no idea how quickly and easily it would all be sorted. The other guy took my number and said he would call to let me know how everything was going. I have had no call so I assume everything worked properly and he is no driving around in his fixed car. Please try to relax, and let the insurance take care of it. Thanks

chickenchickenchick · 18/03/2019 06:49

@barbiegrl

Glad you're ok

I'm just a nervous wreck after it all.
Hopefully the insurance will sort it.

Im a natural worrier and being a hormonal pregnant lady doesn't help xx

chickenchickenchick, it took.them a couple of weeks to decide on fault. The other party hasnt so far submitted a claim, i'm guessing as it was a small dent she probably now doesnt want a hit on her no claims bonus as shes been deemed partly at fault. Fingers crossed!

chickenchickenchick · 18/03/2019 19:23

@frogsoup

Ah i was hoping it would be sorted and out of the way by the end of this week but maybe not.

My waters went this morning so i am currently in hospital so i will just forget about it this is what insurance is for! X

Hope you're ok OP and your waters breaking were (sort of) to be expected?
This is the kind of stress you definitely don't need at the moment. Thanks

cricketmum84 · 18/03/2019 20:54
