A little bit of advice needed for good areas in Manchester ...Follow on post

Hi everyone,
I posted a couple of weeks ago about moving to Manchester and got some helpful responses, but still need a little advice...
Previously almost everyone suggested south Manchester, sale, Hale , Altrincham, as well as the moors and parts of Stockport.
I have 4dc and like I mentioned my budget is ideally max of £310k for a 4 bed, but that doesn't seem to get me much in those areas.
I was wandering if you guys could enlighten me on Eccles ( seen lovely affordable new builds there) , which parts of Stockport and stretford and prestwich (again lovely new builds) are good in terms of schools including secondary? I'm after good family locations not too rural.
I've noticed checking school checker on right move most primary schools seem good but secondary are touch and go, although they all seem good in the south but again just more pricey.
Any help would be appreciated?
Thanks

That's but rude TheNanny there are some lovely parts of Bolton as highlighted by a pp ,admittedly where I live is a bit grim but Bolton is a large town good and bad parts everywhereHmm

As someone said above the centre of Warrington is just a bit soulless and the people who I know who live fairly central hate it.

Culcheth mentioned above is further out in between Warrington and Lowton is pretty nice and the secondary there definitely has a good reputation locally. I don't know about the primary school but it looks nice (my dentist was around the corner until we moved!)

I think with property, you will get what you pay for; there are very few bargains these days, unless you're happy to do a lot of work (we did, and it's what we wanted, but you have to be prepared for it). It's about working out where you are prepared to make compromises. If it were me I'd want to be in Trafford. As an alternative, you could look at the money you'd save by moving elsewhere and spend that on tutoring and/or private schools if you think the schools aren't what you want.

daphine2004 Culcheth is lovely but I think the OP would struggle for in budget new build there.

I would choose northwich area over Warrington if you were going that far out

NorthernKnickers · 10/04/2019 19:02

Did you decide on an area OP?

chocolover12 · 25/04/2019 16:54

NorthernKickers we really liked davyhulme, flixton and Urmston those are number 1 areas for us. The husband still considering Warrington due to its new builds though.

What about Monton very close to Manchester up and coming and within budget.
Culcheth, Risley, beautiful.
Lowton and Worsley are both nice but like a car park during rush hour.

Hi there, unfortunately my son didn’t get his first choice secondary school. We are going through the appeal process (meeting next week) but he was automatically put on the schools waiting list. I have phoned school admissions and he is 5th out of 129. So I know it could be a lot worse. But does anyone think he’ll have a chance of gettibg a place before September? I know there is going to be a lot of movement over the summer. Just wondering if anyone has been successful in getting a place this way?
Thanks

I know this is an old thread. Wondering where the OP ended up moving to.

mgmismicgmic · 30/07/2020 07:53

@sandalsinthebin

Hi OP you asked about Stockport. Try Romiley and Marple. Both are nice little towns and really easy to Manchester. Good schools too. Cheaper than Hale and Alty!
I am also looking at Stockport, would the noise from airport very loud? I found it is very close to Manchester Airport .

Thank you.
