A little bit of advice needed for good areas in Manchester ...Follow on post

Hi everyone,
I posted a couple of weeks ago about moving to Manchester and got some helpful responses, but still need a little advice...
Previously almost everyone suggested south Manchester, sale, Hale , Altrincham, as well as the moors and parts of Stockport.
I have 4dc and like I mentioned my budget is ideally max of £310k for a 4 bed, but that doesn't seem to get me much in those areas.
I was wandering if you guys could enlighten me on Eccles ( seen lovely affordable new builds there) , which parts of Stockport and stretford and prestwich (again lovely new builds) are good in terms of schools including secondary? I'm after good family locations not too rural.
I've noticed checking school checker on right move most primary schools seem good but secondary are touch and go, although they all seem good in the south but again just more pricey.
Any help would be appreciated?
Thanks

Thank you to everyone who took their time to post. I'm making lists and organising and planning for our trip up.

So who has moved from London? Do you prefer life up north?
Excited, nervous, just wanting to make sure I make the right decision x

I've lived in both places; there are pros and cons with both. I loved the multi-cultural aspect of London and the interesting museums and exhibitions and art and theatre. We have some good stuff in Manchester but it can't match London for variety. Only two hours on the train though and not a deal-breaker.
I'm glad my kids got to grow up here. We can be in the countryside in five minutes and I really like that. And people are very friendly. We arrived from Scotland knowing no-one and everyone was great. We met loads of people through the kids' school and they're still good friends.
Good luck with your trip and do PM me if you have any more questions Smile

highlandandcoo that's nice to hear, for me it's where I've lives all my life, my comfort zone, I know this place inside out and have all my friends here so the thought of moving is very scary. If I think of anything else I'll pm you. Glad to hear you made friends easily. Thank you

Does anyone have any idea of Warrington? Is t a good area? There seems to be a lot of lovely houses including new builds? Really appreciate your advice

I've not lived in Warrington but worked in different parts for around 5 years. It's a lot cheaper than Manchester and suburbs, there are less well paid jobs and shops are all a bit run down. I'm not aware of many 'good' areas of Warrington; everyone I worked with who lived on that side raves about Stockton Heath, which is lovely. But I think it's been mentioned on your thread before, to rural and the house prices are higher because it's a desirable area. I personally wouldn't move to Warrington, perhaps it should be in your list to drive round when you come up for a visit?

shouldiorshouldinot · 23/03/2019 16:08

Whatnow40 oh I see. There are loads of houses in great Sankey which I liked and the schools seemed quite good. Definitely will have a drive around there when I'm up. Thanks

Anyone else ?

I'll rather Bolton than Warrington. Have look at BL6.

WhatNow40 · 25/03/2019 07:35

Egerton and Bromley Cross in Bolton are nice area. My in-laws live up that way. Good schools and you get a lot more house for your money. This might be a good compromise?

Thank you I'll definitely check Bolton. Is it a nice family area?

I live in Bolton but a not so nice are😂the areas pp ,s have highlighted are nice but there are only two schools which serve that areaTurton, which from what people have told me is not as good as it used to be and Canon slade which has always had a good reputation but is a church school, and very hard to get into ,there is also St Catherine's Academy in Bradshaw but it doesn't have a good reputation

x2boys · 25/03/2019 09:11

But the actual areas are lovely .

Petitprince · 25/03/2019 15:49

Warrington is a long drive in, although if you are set on a new build there will be lots of choice there. How near do you need to be?

Petitprince · 25/03/2019 15:55

It's stretching your budget, but this is in a good area in sale, with all local primary schools good or outstanding and access to grammar schools for secondary. www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-60935124.html

Spookydollshouse · 25/03/2019 15:56

My friend lives in Astley Green which is on the border of Worsley. Lots of new builds going up there, some lovely little good local primary schools, local secondary gets very good results but it's Catholic. The other secondary has a decent Ofsted and results as far as I know.
Very easy Manchester commute down East Lancs.
A bit harder without a car though although there are buses nearby directly into Manchester you would have to walk out of the village.

Marple is lovely and has a fab free farm and play area.

I wouldn't go for Warrington or Eccles tbh.

Petitprince · 25/03/2019 15:58

Or if you wanted a really new new build you could do your own here, right near Altrincham Waitrose www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-59998698.html

Petitprince · 25/03/2019 16:00

Again, good primary schools near this one in Sale, and access to the grammar schools www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-78150272.html

shouldiorshouldinot · 25/03/2019 18:00

To be honest it doesn't have to be a new build, I do prefer them but it's not essential. But generally the prices in Warrington are much more affordable which is why I was wandering if it's any good as the schools seem good too.

OP posts:
shouldiorshouldinot · 25/03/2019 18:01

Spookydollshouse any reason why you wouldn't go to Warrington?

shouldiorshouldinot · 25/03/2019 18:01

Petitprince thank you for the links I will have a check

I really wouldn't waste your time in Trafford due to the ages of your children, the schools are just so full.

TheNanny23 · 26/03/2019 08:11

Warrington is fine, it just is a bit souless, the IKEA is it’s main selling point! I’d rather live in Lymm/Hollinfare/Glazebrook if I was going to be that far out of Manchester. There’s a train from glazebrook to town and a bus to the Trafford centre.

Dear lord, don’t move to Bolton.

I have colleagues who live in Warrington and rave about it - Paddington and I think Culceth (spelling?). They say the schools are good and there’s a good community spirit. Like everything there will be good and bad with most areas.

I don’t know it enough to say either way, but there are some rural looking bits I’ve driven through and I go to Bents Garden Centre regularly - they have the nicest things and food is amazing!
